  1. My thoughts and prayers to both Carl, his family and Gayle.

I also have had the pleasure of knowing Mr. Cook. My wife and I along with friends spent a drum corps weekend as his guest at his home along the Ohio River. The highlight, besides the show, was watching old drum corps tapes in his board room, wich was the second floor of a barn on the property.

I credit Mr. Cook with getting Sr. corps DCI exposure. I am sure he had something to do with Steel City's 1990 DCI Finals appearence. If you read the DCI forum on Mr. Cook, you will notice the countless mentions of his behind the scenes generosity. He helped out financially with many corps anonymously. He will be missed by the entire drum corps community.

I also credit Mr. Cook with creating a new venue for corps members to showcase their talents when he started "Blast". Many perfromers have furthered their careers by participating.

  3. Hey John,

Last I heard the minicorps is supposed to go.Also a couple horns are doing Westshore.Nothing official though.

Last I heard, they were taking the minicorps to the Reading show. There are a few guys who do the Westshore deal.

  4. Thought Steel City Ambassodors were going to be there?

They are not due to the cancellation of the mini corps contest saturday afternoon. I am sure some members will be in the audience and playing with other alumni corps that night.

  5. Due to unforseen circumstances, I will not be able to attend this year's Serenade in Brass indoor concert. I have 2 seats in section 307, row "C", seats 1 & 2. I would assume that they are aisle seats. I will sell them both together at face value, $18 each, $36 for both. I don't want to split them up please. I will pay for mailing by 1st class mail, but if you would like quicker, then the cost will be up to you to cover. I can accept PAYPAL, but am willing to work out any means of payment. Due to the short notice, I am also willing to send tickets out before payment received to assure them getting there in time.

Serenade in Brass is probally the premiere indoor show on the east coast every year. This year's line-up includes:

US Naval Academy Drum & Bugle Corps

    Hawthorne Caballeros Alumni

    Bridgemen Alumni

    Crusaders of Boston

    Buccaneer Alumni

    Park City Pride

    Yankee Rebels Alumni

    Hip Pickles

    Swing House

    Westshoremen Alumni

    1st come, 1st served.

  6. i like your smilies :-)...at guard rehearsals we'd play tunes at warmup, including YMCA, a workout tune. We rehearsed most days in 78 and 79 except Fridays when we'd go to the disco at the Plaza hotel. I used to march to the beat of a different drummer. I recall one night when Chic "Le Freak" from the C'est Chic album was played at the club and a gentleman asked me to dance. We danced the tango at the disco. He was from Argentina. "Good times".

My collegue at work has a red and white stuffed tiger in her cubicle. Her hubby gave it to her 'bout 4 years ago. It's kinda like a teddy bear and when you push the button the tiger starts singing "Wild Thing" (by The Troggs). I get up from my office chair and start dancing to the song. Kinda sorta gotta be there moment. My collegue retires next month. I'm gonna miss her.

Good to chat with you; couldn't help myself. Thanks Malibu :worthy:

Just curious, were all the girls of AAG blonde & blue eyed? Not that there is anything wrong with that.

  7. Unless you were un Basic Training....the Clark Kents were also referred to as BCGs....birth control glasses ('cause you could be a Playboy Playmate and if you wore those things, NO guy would touch you!)

I don't know Sam about the no touch playmate thing, I know an awful lot of US Marines that could look way past a pair of glasses when it comes to females. I know you Airmen have high standards, but us jarheads, I recall something about if it moves...............................

  8. a little bit of history.......many of you may remember a fabled baritone player and center of songs extraordinaire from Archie, Jack 'Big Jack' Werner. On one trip we managed to find a watering hole late at night and stopped the bus to partake. So in we go, getting THAT LOOK from the regulars.....all neighborhooders. We sits down at tables and notice that they have those juke box machines at the booths. Now we hadn't started imbibing yet, but we couldn't read a ###### tune on the charts. It was all in Polish or other eastern european languages. So, we haves our beers and must have created a bit of consternation 'cause the reception committee was not too fond of dese guys from da bus. Tension mounted after some time, but when things looked darkest, Big Jack stands up and starts singing the Polish national anthem....in Polska. That got all the locals singing along and it looked like the situation was calmed. They cheered Jack, but he then went into the second stanza.........they all looked with large eyed wonderment and those that could sang along.....in Polska. When Jack was finished they gave him a standing 'O' and we drank for free the rest of the night.

ya see, Werner was NOT Jack's real last name.......he was a Polish boy tru an tru......

    Great story, thanks for sharing.

One time Steel City on the way home managed to find the only GAY bar in western MD.
