Well, I hit all the tables, and even offered to pay to have one shipped after finals. No one had one, so I'm sort of relying on people who may have bought an extra...

I asked this question in Marketplace, but didn't get any responses.
I'm looking for a 2003 DCA Finals patch.
We changed jacket styles between my 5th and 6th year, and I'm trying to duplicate all the patches I have on my jacket. All I'm missing from the DCA patches is my rookie year: 2003.
Does anyone have an extra 2003 DCA patch they'd be willing to part with? I hit all the tables at finals, and was unable to come up with that single patch.
Anyone?

Ahhh....but if a corps had 40 members and 10 of them got blinded by one of your shirts and that corps could not compete, THEN it'd be DCA's fault!!

To help minimize the possibility of smaller corps forking off from the larger corps (alliance / fusion core / gulf coast sound / ???). Not realizing (or caring) that it does affect the formation of smaller corps completely unrelated to existing corps. If it's there to appease some show sponsors, then there's other ways to handle that, without blackballing ALL small corps at ALL shows.
Hey, man, why don't you keep your nose over in Texas? The Atlanta folks/situation didn't even come close to what you're insinuating, and it's clear you have no internal knowledge of what has passed/gone on here. I'm sure you *think* you do, but you weren't on the board of either organization here during that time. You weren't here when both organizations were navigating uncharted waters and new territories. We have reached a place and a point in time where we all get along and enjoy each others company and competition, and are glad to have all kinds of drum corps right here in Atlanta.
Today, Terry has built a fine Drum Corps, so much so they can walk in and take a caption from us at our own show. They are a quality drum corps with a quality program, overcoming obstacles and pushing on like every one of us have had to.
I don't think they've ever had the problems with membership that would cause the 22-35 rule to affect them, so I don't see your logic here.
Stick with Texas stuff, and leave us all out of it.

I'm looking for a 2003 DCA patch.
We changed corps jackets recently, and I need to get my hands on only one last patch, my patch from my rookie year in DCA, 2003.
Does anyone have an extra one they'd be willing to part with?

So my son and I went to a marching band exhibition a couple days ago, and when the time came for the National Anthem. Heads started looking around, searching for colors, and it became apparent there were NONE TO BE FOUND ANYWHERE ON CAMPUS!!!
My son starts looking up in the sky searching the heavens looking for something with a great amount of effort. I asked him what he was doing, and he said "Looking for Cozy parachuting out of the sky with an American Flag screaming "You MUST have a flag!!!!"
Yeah, I laughed for quite some time.
I added, "With goggles that have one large lens and one small one?"
Good times.
Were I to be thought of any time someone considered our nation's colors.

Well, how about our champions who have done some DCI tunes and even very similar (if not precise) drill copies from DCI corps?
It's time to stop throwing stones, and get behind DCA's year over year improvements and progress.

So then, the combined one-way travel of all those corps to their longest trip of the season all adds up to a single weekend's trip to CT for us.

Fact is, this discussion/argument/dalliance with numbers happens every year after finals and before all our collective Open Houses.
We understand clearly that to play in the NE game, we travel to the NE. It's the game we signed up for, it's the location of the game, it's where we go.
You can *NOT*, however even begin to compare the travel around the NE region to what people like Sun Devils, GCS, MCL, CV, Prarie, etc. etc. do just to be a part of DCA. They surpass travel times seen by NE members and corps (excluding those that travel several states away just to march in the NE) each and every season. The numbers are staggering.
Sure, with recent fuel increases, many far-flung groups are staying home more. However just in my tenure marching, we've had seasons where three individual contests represented over 70 hours in bus travel.
From Atlanta:
Clemmons, NC................314 mi................5 hrs
Birmingham, AL...............153 mi................2.5 hrs.
Jacksonville, AL................102 mi................1.75 hrs.
Hershey, PA.....................729 mi................11.5 hrs.
Kingston, NY.....................955 mi................15.1 hrs.
Orlando, FL.......................439 mi................6.5 hrs
Scranton, PA.....................834 mi................13.25 hrs
I know for a fact (I was there :)) that the Kingston trip with stops was 20 hours and the Hershey trip was 17 because our ever intelligent drivers thought that major metro areas at drive time was a *good* idea. :P Scranton, due to whatever curse from God we're under always takes 19 hours. Go figure. THose three alone come dangerously close to 60 hours of bus time.
Point is, we can get into the eternal milage and hours pissing match, and realize that the far-flung groups do indeed far outdistance the NE corps in their travels. It is USELESS to debate that here. All it does is exacerbate the ill-will some like to hold for the situation and strains corps relations. We should stop.
Instead, something I've suggested we do over and over and over is set up more shows like Wake Forest in '05. There was a FANTASTIC representation of NE corps (And Renegades!!) at that show. It went over as well as could be expected with the weather, and LMS South is still one of my favorite drum corps memories ever. (Hunter Moss playing the Georgia solo while the first guy ever to direct Georgia for Jim Ott and another former Spirit DM conducted from the podium). And oh the volume! My teeth are still rattling from that performance.
It was a good show, showed the promise of out-of-region competitions for NE corps. The Southern corps responded in kind and made the trip. Renegades made LMS memorable. A good time was had by all.
Let's do more of that rather than griping that it doesn't happen.

Unfortunately, were I there, we'd not be in the "big dance", and I'd much rather see the alumni on DVD (which I buy every single year) than not play on Sunday night.

With all that being said, your comments about the alumni corps were still foolish and uncalled for. Maybe if you thought about how many people you might be offending before you post, it would make for less of these posts.

You are mischaracterizing my assertion and subsequent supporting comments to mean what you think I meant, and not what I actually meant. Since you are who you are, and you deserve deference, I'll quote it here for you:

If the changes, occurrences, happenings, etc. going on at the minicorps competition are not to your liking, perhaps you would be better served in another event during the DCA weekend. REGARDLESS of whether it's Alums, DCA Open Class, Class A, I&E competitions, or whatever. WHATEVER floats your boat, go do that. Just don't be a royal pain in the ### and scream and yell moronic interjections between numbers while a corps is performing.
It has also come out in this very thread that they got more of the same when performing on Sunday night including jeers and the finger!! THE FINGER!!! what kind of class is that?
detractors need to get ahold of themselves and remember that THIS. IS. A. HOBBY. There is nothing so important, it should cause you to act the way people have been acting toward SU. And again, if it isn't your cup of tea, maybe the Alum. Spec. is. Or the DCA field shows on Saturday and Sunday.
Ok, I've said it three times now in different ways. If that still bothers you, then I've sorely overestimated you.

I stand by my statement. If the things happening in the minicorps circuit upset you (the generic "you", not you personally), perhaps you would be better off at a different event/venue. I picked Alumni because it seemed apropos to the ongoing conversation. It was a complete lack of class to scream at the corps after their opener. Again, if you don't like what they're doing, go elsewhere. The DCA weekend is full of something for everyone.
Again, I will not stand by and see these fine musicians go through what the DCI field corps went through, and will fight for them. We let a magical organization get away in DCI. We can't do it in DCA too.

I was entirely too young to know what was being done to Star when they left DCI. I'll be ###### if I'll let it happen again on my watch. I will fight tooth and nail for this organization in any way possible to help keep such a classy, talented organization in our circuit.
Like I said in another thread, the classless lout that shouted "this isn't DCI" after Star's first number can just shut the heck up. That was completely uncalled for, classless, and should *NOT* happen. Star doesn't deserve it, and neither does DCA.
DCA is evolving. If you don't like it, move on to the Alumni shows on Sunday morning.

Point of information:
All DCA members under the age of 22 are allowed to compete in DCI I&E. The members of Star United are disqualified from participating because they are aged-out. i.e. too old.
They are not only in exactly the right place in that competition and are doing precisely what it takes to win. Playing *musically* and playing well-known literature throughout the drum corps community.
Just because it isn't something *YOU* don't recognize, doesn't make it any less viable. It just makes you ignorant.
Show some class and congratulate them. They deserve the title in any and every way you can slice it.

I posed the question earlier on this thread, would any -if not all the eastern DCA corps - be willing to travel to the midwest or south for shows??????
I concur that before there could ever be a legit bid for the Championships to be in the Midwest or South, some of the east corps would have to help build a higher regional fan base. Just the midwestern or the southern corps in competition will not do it. But start "wetting" their appitites for what the rest of DCA Corpsdom is like- watch out. Not going to happen overnight, I would suspect 5-6 years to build things up and develop a strong mailing list and following.
How about it?? Empire - Cru-Cabs-Buccs-Bush-Brigs-Hurcs who is willing to go on record to do a midwest weekend or Atlanta weekend next year?????????

I believe we had a number of NE corps at the Winston-Salem show a few years back. I still treasure my LMS South T-shirt and wear it proudly.
Fact is, the out-of-NE people budget in two $10k+ trips per year (sometimes more sometimes less) and make it a part of expenses. Before the season ever starts, we plan and determine what shows in the NE we're going to, how we're going to get there, and the logistics along the way. It's all part of the season planning, and you can't just decide "Hey, let's go to Kingston this summer!". It takes a year or two to get into the swing of 20-hour trips. It takes tailoring your fundraising efforts to the schedule you've adopted. It takes a *desire* to make the trip in the first place.
I don't think we're there yet. I don't think there's enough *desire* to make the trip in the NE, as there isn't the benefit to those corps in making the trip the out-of-region corps enjoy.
Slow and steady always wins the race. It'll come.
I did hear a rumor, however, that for the first time in it's existence, the CV home show broke even. A few more years of that, rising attendance and increased revenues, and maybe we can help out other corps that decide to make the trek like they do for us.
I don't think the out-of-regioners are asking corps to go broke to travel. If that were the case, brand new corps who are travelling to Rochester in the first and second years of existence would have an impassable barrier to entry to the activity. I think that what a lot of out-of-regioners (and by this, I mean out of the NE) are asking for is corps pre-planning, budgeting, travelling, and helping us to GROW our individual regions more swiftly, which in the long run benefits all corps in all regions.
People are enjoying our shows here, but how much more interest would be generated if an Empire, Bucs, Cabs, etc. came down. Just one show. Just one corps. One time per year. Attendance would rise, people wold join local corps, more parents/family, more volunteers, etc. etc. More attendance, more money, appearance fees. It happens in a certain order, and we're starting to see the beginning of that flow.
It is certainly not feasible to ask to move finals out of the NE any time soon. That's where the fans are.
It is *NOT* infeasible to ask individual corps to make a commitment to step out of the comfort zone, and do the bare minimum asked of the other corps around the country, and come visit.
We might even have some sweet tea for ya.

The spaceship Evilzone arrives on Nuquledom, a bizarre planet located 600 billion miles, 10 and a half to the equator... sinister forces abide by moonlight as scientists devise plots to detonate human desires and brutality amongst space travelers in the best interest of the solar system...
