  6. Hello! We are looking to start a winter guard in central Maryland. Anyone have ideas or suggestions for a rehearsal gym? Looking for Saturday rehearsals from November to April. We don't need to sleep at the site, just daytime rehearsals. Inexpensive is good, free is better! Of course, we will provide certificates of insurance for any facility we use. Schools are a possibility, however it seems that the facility rental rates are steep. Any suggestions or past experiences? Thanks!!!

  8. Dark Knight Productions, Inc. is currently soliciting resumes to fill additional board member positions. A full description of board member requirements is available upon request. Prior experience with non-profit organizations is preferred. The Board of Directors is a “working” board that is currently looking to generate funds to start new programs in the Fall of 2010. Please note that although the organization is based in New York, programs will take place in Maryland. Steps are being taken to clear the organization to do business in Maryland. Please direct all resumes and questions to info@dkproductions.org . Dark Knight Productions, Inc. is a 501©(3) non-profit youth arts organization formed in 2008. Our mission is to financially support youth arts education, promote character and social development, and create performing arts activities. The above will be achieved through the formation of four programs: a percussion ensemble, a winter color guard, a winter brassline, and a drum & bugle corps. Direct Compensation: None Deadline: January 12, 2009
  9. jonnyboy, Thanks for the response! To answer your questions, the organization is currently based out of New York, however we are planning on moving to Maryland to start programs there. It seems that there is much talent in the state of Maryland that has largely been untapped. We envision a junior corps in the eventual future. The current programs for FALL 2010 are a winter percussion ensemble and a winter color guard (WGI). Again, thank you!

  12. Website has now been COMPLETELY revamped to offer a much simpler, sleek, and inviting layout. Thoughts?
  13. "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." (Margaret Mead) On September 8, 2008, a post was made on Drum Corps Planet requesting help and information on how to go about starting a corps. Many sent information publicly and privately, in hopes of helping to get "something" started. On October 21, 2008, Dark Knight Productions, Inc. was born as a non-profit corporation in New York State. The next few months was spent putting together a well-rounded Board of Directors that didn't necessarily require drum corps experience, but more business-oriented skills (accounting, non-profit operations, fundraising, etc.). The first official Board Meeting was held on January 20, 2009. On February 21, 2009, the Internal Revenue Service received the completed Application for Tax-Exempt Status. That Application was approved a mere 18 days later, on March 10, 2009. With the 501©(3) status, Dark Knight Productions, Inc. set off to fulfill its non-profit mission: to financially support youth arts education, promote character and social development, and create performing arts activities. That mission was fulfilled for the first time on August 22, 2009 with a Battery Clinic, provided at no charge, featuring clinician Nick Angelis. Much has been going on, and it hasn't even been one year yet! It just goes to show that anything is possible with hard work and determination. Up until this point, we have been operating though the generosity of our Board Members. We felt it necessary to fully invest ourselves in the organization before we felt comfortable asking others for help. We fully understand that no one wants to throw money away. However, as a result of our recent successes and planned future, we are ready and excited to ask for help! The economic climate is obviously not favorable for anyone right now. And there are countless organizations that could use the help and are deserving our your time and energy. But, if you can spare something to support our cause and emerging youth programs, we would greatly appreciate it. If a monetary donation is not possible, we ask that you consider following along on our journey and supporting what we do. Donations can be made by visiting our website, http://dkproductions.org . Click on the bright gold "support" button for instructions. (YES! It is bright gold to accentuate it's importance. How about that for GE?) Thank you in advance for your generosity and continued support. Dark Knight Productions, Inc. is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501©(3) public charity based in New York State. All donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. For more information on Dark Knight Productions, Inc., please e-mail info@dkproductions.org .

  16. Dark Knight Productions, Inc. is excited to announce that it is now recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501©(3) public charity! To give everyone an idea about how the process works, the application took us about 3 months to complete (it's long and requires much information). This was started in late November. We mailed the application in and got a letter saying that the IRS received it on February 25. From there, we were in what I call "limbo." The IRS splits the applications into 3 groups: those that can be approved as-is, those that need a little work before being approved, and those that need much work and/or will not be approved. The first two groups take about 60 days to hear back. The third group takes months longer. We received our letter back in 18 DAYS! And it said that we were approved! :D The website has been updated and a donations link has now been added to the support page. Please consider helping this start-up group. I have made it a point to post on DCP from the very beginning to document out progress and share it with the enthusiasts as it comes. We are excited about the past half-year with this new project and more excited for the months/years to come. Also, keep an eye out for some fun events in the Hudson Valley region this Summer and Fall! Thank you in advance!
  17. Again, THANKS! We appreciate any and all criticism. Better to get it out of the way now rather than later, right?
  18. Thanks for the reply. 10% watermark: done. It's interesting that the thing that most people noticed was that watermark :D It started out at 30% I think. While I like the site with a black background, I completely understand your concerns with printing. A viable solution may be providing a page with important documents to be printed. For example, a PDF with directions or a PDF of a fact sheet for individual programs. As for the plan, it is always subject to change. However, I feel that the team we have working on this will be here for the long haul. Or at least until we see this project come to fruition. The Board is made up of several people that are experienced in non-profits and fundraising, not necessarily drum corps. We are determined to create a business entity that will have viable programs for New York.
  19. 15% done. The charcoal grey is almost invisible now. I'm ok with that because that color was designed to blend in with the black. Better?
  20. Yes, I agree. That logo was placed in the background of most of the pages today. I had it at 30% opacity. It's now been changed to 20%. Little easier to read, huh? What do you think? Could be 25%, but 20% works...
