  1. So from 48 states represented, some with 25 corps each (plus Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and BC) to picking apart the Open Class list to "prove me wrong" because i missed Blue Saints and 7th Regiment. Awesome.

The point of the post has no validity if you can scrape a minute correction out of it. And Spartans 87 was so disappointed that he wasnt first to the bag.

Thanks for letting me know about that egregious oversight and then commenting on the point in general to add to the conversation.

    Oh wait..... :)

Just saw someone beat me to the CT and NH corps, and forgot about Music City. Carry on :-)

  2. A bold reply :)

SCV THIRD? Way to put it out there.

And if it aint Glassmen, then you have Crossmen in the night show with BD top cheese?

See you here again a week from Friday/Saturday and we'll compare notes.

    Hmmm, let's see....

    NO

    NO WAY

    YES

    NOPE

    More likely scenarios.....

Blue Stars finish out of top 12

    Blue Knights catches Spirit

Either SCV or Phantom finish 3rd

4 Open Class corps make top 25 (Oregon, BDB, SCVC, Spartans)

  3. Dont get mad, even if its hard! Anyone who saw this in June knew that it would take until August for this vehicle to work, if it was even going to work at all. Remember when it was soooo mechanical and how the members had so much to do individually that the show was having trouble coming to life? And how the "buy in" was happening in this section or segment, but not quite at the pitch to create that "thing"? This was no joke...even in its attempt. And the non-formula (OMG, the ballad?) courageousness that it took to declare THIS score as "Cavaliers- 2012"? wow.

It might not get there......but, then again, it darn well might....and that was a big part of my OP :) Lots o' room for this show to grow....Oh ye of little faith...beware the Cavaliers.

Tipped glass of Kool Aid on ice from me to you.

Really? Since when is different defined as an inferior product? It may not be your cookie cutter drum corps show, but i'll guarantee you that this show is every bit as demanding as Bostons. The members are in character from the moment they step on that field and are asked to carry that through the entire 15 minutes. They are just not marching dot to dot, they are truly performing. While I very much enjoy BAC this year and think they're doing an amazing job, I do think theirs is a show that I have seen many times over the years. Same with Phantom, again, amazing product/performance. But I feel like we've seen this show 3 out last 5 years from them. My favorites this year BK/BD/Cavies are my favorites because I havent seen this before. Because they are different then the rest.

FYI...The "act of desperation" at the end of the Cavies show was in the original design. It was however, deliberate to save it for the end of the season. If you think the Cavies are desperate then what about?:

SCV: using music of the night at the end of the show

Madison: bringing back the rotating company front/malaguena

    etc...etc...

Call it what you want but I consider these very smart moves by each corps to give the audience what they want. Come Finals Ill almost guarantee, just like last year, Madison/Cavies and Phantom will have 3 of the biggest crowd ovations.

  4. good stuff.

as long as there are more than 12, its a bona fide contest.

the "ole" route to Finals would be lame, IMO.

It gives a little meaning to the words "we made Finals"...which is cool.

DCA 2011....11 corps.....10 spots....still a contest, even if only one gets bumped. Theres something at stake. Makes the parking lot before Prelims a little more meaningful if ya know what I mean.

  5. GREENBLUE and I are drinking the same Kool Aid!

From alone on the Illinois island to finding a kindred spirit!

He can be Tom Hanks to my Wilson.

    Splooie (and all that)!

Cavies: You have my vote for most improved. This show is sooooo entertaining and the guys know how to perform the hell out of it. Im not sure why the guard is getting criticized so much, the drill has them all over the field and the book seems to be just as hard as everyone infront of them. As a whole, the drill looks a thousand times better then earlier in the season and the musical/visual transitions make sense now. No matter where the men in green place, I have a feeling they're gonna be a crowd favorite in Indy. I cant't wait to see this show live. It may not be your traditional drum corps show, but #### did it make me smile. Including today, Cavies have 5 practice days before Indy, alot can still be added and cleaned. Are they gonna medal, no. Could they surprise someone infront of them, absolutely.

  6. Having already chimed in with my "IS THIS GUY KIDDING ME?" comment, I (and others) have gone too far.

We've taken the bait, swallowed it whole, and entertained the OP for a while with our protests.

How about letting the air out of this...letting what has been said so far in opposition stand on its own...and move on to another topic where we can entertain other OP's with our sage remarks?

I can't recall ever reading anything negative from him. He always highlights the positives of what each corps is doing from what I have read. Is there some specific bashing he has done you can highlight?

  7. And if that happens (and I will be taking a clooooose look at the FN for that set of "can it happen?" ingredients)...that might (might, may, could, possibly) leave that phenom Spirit show in 12th. Can you imagine that's what it takes to make Finals anymore? Amazing.

Still holding out on Glassmen for a late run. Didnt see them bumping Spirit. Who knows? A fun week or so left. (and RockyGranite is a BK homer...good for him!)

I see BK passing Spirit today or in the next show. Then they will battle each other to the end, while putting pressure on either Cavies or Scouts...which ever one ends up having the most trouble.

  8. As I'm reading it...BK and Blue Stars, etc are getting some love. If Spirit's show is what it takes to make finals, then the bar is waaaaaaaaaay high. Compliment to Spirit. And DCI. No disrespect. :) (Sensitive bunch here; hard to get out of your own way on DCP....). Thanks for picking it apart. If you like one, you must hate all others. Or something. Trophies for all.

Why would DCI Rock if Spirit is in 12th compared 9th, 10th, or 11th?

  9. Posting a commemorative photo is ok, too.

If you captured the conducting Marino in the foreground and the marching Marino(s) in the background, you have an awesome picture.

How mom or dad got through the performance without turning into the proud, choked up marshmallows that they are when it comes to their family is a mystery.

I have to say...i'm VERY proud of the entire CORE. Its our first year in open and we have amazing competition but we're holding our own and getting better every weekend.

I am especially proud of Nicole...she did an OUTSTANDING job considering shes only been the assistant since the spring but Carol has been an awesome teacher and mentor and nicole will just get stronger over the years if we can kerp her away from jumping back in the pit!!!

  10. picky picky! Can always count on the DCP crowd ! :w00t:

    Edited OP (about halfway). :satisfied:

There are also no DCI corps in ME, VT, NH, CT, RI, FL, VA, MD, DE, AL, MI, LA, AR, AK, HI, TN, KY, WV, IN, MI, MO, OK, KS, NE, NV, ND, SD, NM, UT, MT, ID or NY (but there used to be).

There are no DCI corps from North Carolina.

  11. Ok, Ok! I'll fire up FN again tonight! It isnt like you guys dont know what you are talking about :)

I can make my "upside" argument with a smile.

I spent 2 days with Cavaliers in FL and might have brought a little too much "fan" to the table with that one.

BK? I'll watch them again on your say so (having done many things on your say-so over the years :)

If Spirit is 12th, then DCI rocks.

    Fun season so far.

Not this time Joey...Glassmen more than likely will not catch Blue Stars. I will tell you who I loved on FN that I hated earlier in the season...Denver Blue Knights!!! .

That show has legs and still lots to clean, a couple in front of them may want to push harder. As I said, I did not like this show at all in June. Spirit could be 12th IMO.

OMG...Vanguard...no way in this world can Cavaliers catch that team. Bloo....very doubtful either. They dont do anything wrong and there drum line is in the hunt.

  12. Mike Bianchi is a sports columnist in Orlando who could be called a windbag, has never played pro sports and so forth.

I make sure to read his column every day.

Telling it like it is is a good recipe for getting into a snit here or there.

Ask Brandi Chastain (see "Hope Solo tweets cause a stir at Olympics")

Boo only marched Cavies and has done drum corps for 30 years or so, continues to work every day at his craft and has relationships that go far beyond the field.

One day his "cred" will measure up to the OP's need.

Until then, give 'em he ll, Mike. I'll log in religiously, unless so many others are in line ahead of me that the system crashes.

Interviewer: Why do people that like Howard Stern listen to his show? NBC Producer: They cant wait to hear what he has to say next.

Interviewer: Why do people who hate Howard Stern listen to his show? NBC Producer: They cant wait to hear what he has to say next.

  13. If Kidsgrove brings that nasty baritone/contra section, that is worth most of the price of admission...and certainly worth sitting at a sectional rehearsal while sipping an Arnold Palmer;

C2 has fit 6 pounds of corps in a 5 pound bucket and it might take until prelims to max it out.

Do Renegades fit in the conversation?

And as the guards get the shows underneath them, the fun really begins :)

Bucs might be having a silent chuckle given that the talk of the offseason was all MBI (hey, they're the champs) and Cadets2. Lest we forget..... :)

Here's the top 6: Bucs, Hurcs (!), Cabs, MBI, Empire, C2/Kidsgrove (tie) :)

  14. You heard it here first:

Glassmen have an open door to #12, and the time to make it so (BIG bump for finding 10 members late and getting them up to speed)

Cavaliers (finally :) have the chops to chase Bloo and SCV (bump for finding that "thing" in this particular show - oh ye of little faith!)

Oregon Crusaders will show the Friday crowd that they had a good reason to get there early :) (super BUMP for one of the coolest musical scores in a looooong time)

...and if, somehow, some way the first 128 counts for the team from the Carolina region can look/sound as phenom as the last 128, the big hardware might have to be loaded on a FedEx truck for the trip East. (BUMP if they can pull it off, kind of like Buster Douglas v Mike Tyson...and Tyson is still a bad mammajamma)

shuffle, shuffle....this is starting to be fun.

"wild horses" couldn't drag me away.

  15. Bummer. You took down my Chatelaines post.

i guess BD copying Chatelaines chair thing and mentioning title IX was too much to bear.

    :)

    you guys have fun!

  16. Empire Statesmen 1983; entertainment first that spawned a new circuit (ICA) and big changes to the dca sheets

Star United, 2006; that one changed mini-corps from an I & E event to an event that stood on its own.

Blue Devils, 1994; a new way to drum over your head that has been copied over and over, but had never been seen before
