  1. You have a right to your opinion, but you are saying that if you are not in the show, it's not worth the price of admission. I beg to differ. There were no weak links in the show. I thought all the units performed at a high level and were worth watching.

My corps did not participate in the last 2 Mission Drums, after performing exhibitions the previous 2 years, but I and many of my fellow corps mates bought tickets to enjoy the show and to support drum corps. If drum corps dies, the non-supporters will be its pall bearers.

    Art,

Please read my post again. I am saying the PRICE is too high for a Drum Corps show. The fact that we are not playing really doesn't matter. The admission price is way too high for any Drum Corps show. If my friends & family happen to be in town ,we might attend the show. Just isn't worth a special trip to pay that kind of money for a show. I and my family have attended the Plymouth show since it started in 1996.We have always supported it . I did not play in the show until 2001.The price used to be reasonable. I didn't say anything about "weak links" . In your post you didn't seem to understand why the show doesn't sell out anymore. All I am saying is that I think it is the high admission price. NOT the quality of the Corps that play. Very sorry if i hurt anyones feelings.

  2. Dale & Art,

The Kilties were a huge hit at Plymouth too. The show was sold out back in the early days. Over the years as the price of the admission went up & up .The volume of the crowd has gone down . I think the price of the tickets is out of line. We used to all buy tickets for ourselves & family members . Now that we don't play the show anymore ,its just not worth the price of admission. Just my opinion ,but I don't know many people that pay to go to the Plymouth Show anymore.

  3. Hey Mike, I am a drum corps nut. I am such a nut that I am playing a solo on the french horn, of course mine has two valves. How about you? Are going to get that frenchie out of the plastic and play for us?

No More Frenchie for Me. sold it to a guy in LA. Sold my Mell. too .Retired from Corps after 47 years. Might see Old friends at a show this summer.

    All the Best,

    Mike D.

  9. And here is my Whaley, Royce & Co. shoulder euph, from the late 60s.

    W-Rshouldereuph.jpg

    IronLips also owns one.

I was in the New Bedford Whalers in the 60s & We had Whaley Royce euphoniums ,but they were carried front .Man those were big horns to carry out front. Was the sholder carry done as a result ? Great photo Ironlips.

  10. Wife & I recently weekend-hosted a fellow PR alum --a '72 contra before he enlisted in the Air Force-- out here in WA. He mentioned that a season or two before my time in PR, he played a shoulder-carried baritone [or bass baritone?]. I'd seen the late horn arranger Keith Markey playing one in the USAF Academy D&B corps back in '68, but must have thought it was something he'd put together.

Yet apparently they were indeed manufactured for awhile. Info on them AND can you post pix?

The only horn that I have seen that might be what you speak of is a Trombonium . I think it was invented by Frank Dorritie . Dan Skinner , a St.Kevins & Defender low brass man plays one sometimes. I believe Dynasty produced them .

  11. OK, which one of youse guyz asked for me at the parade....

Hanover members Marti and Gary Gourley went up and Marti was telling my wife Kris about it. Marti said they wore their corps jackets ('natch) and some people said they missed the Lancers (Thank you). Then someone asked "Where's Jim Fawber at?"

Dang... didn't know I had groupies... I can think of one or two people who it might have been and my guess is the guy who wears a shako.....

One of these years want to make it up there.... now if everyone on both families will co-operate and stay heathy for a while....

    Hey Jim,

I do wear a shako , but it wasn't me .Must have been one of your other fans . Happy Thanksgiving to you & Hanover .

    Mike D.

  12. Having taken off few months due to (hernia) surgery one year and almost all of this one for family health issues all I can say is...

    WELCOME BACK JOHN!!

    Hi Jim ,

wish You & The Hanover Lancer were back in Plymouth again this year . You guys were a HIT both years you came ! Hope you are feeling better too . Sat. weather sunny mid 50s . I love New England !!!

  13. Yankee Rebels,

The response I received to my e-mail asking if you would like to perform with the Yankee Rebels Drum and Bugle Corps at the 2012 DCA Championship Weekend to be held in Annapolis, Maryland, was overwhelming! "The Corps from the Chesapeake Bay" will appear in concert at this great drum corps weekend's individual, ensemble and mini-corps competition on Friday evening, August 31st. Our goal is to represent the State of Maryland with the showmanship and execution for which the Yankee Rebels have been known for many, many years. Most importantly, this one-time event will allow us to see our fellow 'Rebels and welcome our drum corps friends to "our backyard."

Like so many other DCA championship weekends this will be a lot of fun, but this time we won't have to travel so far to enjoy the event.

To get ready for this show, a planning session and rehearsal will be held SATURDAY, November 12th at the YMCA, 10 Dunmanway Dundalk, MD 21222 (go to the side of buillding on Trading Place) beginning at 12:00 noon. I look forward to seeing everyone again and putting on a drum corps show at DCA that we all can remember!

    Thanks,

    Phil Gentile

You know The GAS is going to be down in your neck of the woods this year .I am sure you guys will be rehearsing anyway ,so why not swing by The GAS & play a tune or two ?

    All the Best ,

    Mike D.

  14. I checked the website today and was surprised not to see Sac listed. Also, no St. Kevin's. Sorry to see them not in the lineup, and wondering why. Can anybody provide some background or reasons why? Just curious.

    Hi All,

I am very happy to report that The St. Kevin Emerald Knights WILL be in Plymouth once again this year . I should add, better that ever too ! Great rehearsal yesterday & we are looking forward with pride in doing the show. The contract is signed but Plymouth has not updated their website yet.

    All the Best,

    Mike D.
