  1. 1. Seeing PR and the Bridgemen in the World Open prelims at Manning Bowl in '78. My first experience with Top 12 corps.

    2. 2am 1979 waking up in our corps directors living room, seeing the World Open Class B championship flag hanging from the doorway and realizing that we had just finished an undefeated season.

    3. 1999 Allentown - returning to the activity after not having any contact at all for over 10 years. I sat in the stands a cried like a baby the whole time. Capped off by BD, my favorite corps playing Legend, my favorite chart, for their victory concert. My wife was with me and so moved at seeing me back where I belonged cried the whole time too.

I remember you guys from thaty year

We played the same shows you Kicked @##

  2. I came in late to the (Manchester) show and saw only the last 2 corps...

    However, heres my impressions;

Blue Saints: Doing the best they can with the numbers and the age of their members. I was surprise to enjoy them. Only 10 horns, sometime tentative but I understand the challenge to start new members with no musical experience.

Drums were often over balance and to my taste, sometime have to many notes to play considering the melodic line. They look as the strongest section of the corps.

The show itself look too serious for me. I believe if you do not have the kids to pull of a "serious" show, you should choose accesible music.

Stentors: Good job. Despite 41 rookies (63 members) and a young corps, they do a good job. Accessible music gets the crowd going for them. They could use more confidence and experience. They do not have a "real" climax for now but the horn have a good sound in the softer passage. There is timing problem here and there.

Every new day give them time to learn to play and march. As they move in on June 25th, those 41 rookies had an average of 7 days of drum corps prior to the move in.

If they can keep in the right direction, they have a bright future ahead. For now, isn't it the best part when the kids enjoy themself, are impress by a stadium and a crowd cheering for them and have fun doing what they do? Not only do they have fun but you can see they do!

I saw the Stentors In Bridgewater. that was their first show and it was enjoyable. very good actually for a first out with that many rookies

    41

  3. I saw them at the Bristol RI show on the 2nd of July and well...... it was BAD

Then I just saw them In Bridgewater and WOW..I wrote in another post that they would pass the Spartans

For an open class Corps that is one hell of a show.....

  4. First Up Was Platinum not bad for a new Corps.

    Show titled American Dream

    actually some nice arrangements

Would compare them to the old Class B class

American Faces (Holsinger) is the closer . when the corps doesnt run out of gas will fit well and be a highlight

    2nd was the Spartans

I have NO IDea why they would go on 2nd but they DID

    AND THEY ARE BACK

    Fire Dances is CLASSIC Spartans.

    Great low and Middle brass

For a corps that took a year off VERY NICE

looks pretty close to full .they use the field well. should stay top 5 (unless 7th Reg pushes them out )

3rd Blue Saints from Sudbury Ontario

    small corps 10 brass

    Playing Music from Tim Burton

they need more time and maybe shouldnt be in opem class yet

    4th Les Stentors

First time ever seeing this Corps and the first time out mvery well

Brass had some really good monents crowd loved them

they belong here and will improve twards the championship

and could make a push for top 10

    5th 7th Regiment

I saw them in Bristol and well they were BAD

I do NOT know what they did in the past 2 weeks but WOW

    they put it all together

    it was a total package

    A dark Show called Macbre

and it is DARK BUT VERY ENJOYABLE

some very hard runs for all brass probably the hardest ive see an open class play in a while

the score jump from Bristol to now was 7 points I think it should have been highers

as it was they lost to the spartans by 1.5 points

look out Spartans the will close that gap

  5. I had to work tonight - so glad to hear 7th turned it up a couple of notches.

How great is it to see some good competition between two New England Corps too?

When's the last time? Spartans and EC Jazz? I don't know.

    That would be it

funny story some members of the Spartans came in the stands and were sitting next to me and some were wearing Citation hornline shorts lol

  6. 1-3 Oregon Crusaders, Blue Devils B, Spartans - I think any one of these corps have a legit shot at the championship spot. The question that will always come up now that div. 2 & 3 are combined is, "Does a smaller drum corps that has legitimate quality stand a chance against a corps that is maxed out in terms of member numbers????"

4-6 Raiders, Revolution, 7th Regiment. - I wouldn't be surprised if you see a Caption Award winner out of these groups.

7-12 well, I have no idea. I do suspect that the Colt Cadets will slide into Open Class Finals for the first time, though!!! If that happens, nothing else will even compare to the sheer awesomeness of that achievement.

I just saw the Bridgewater show I was in Bristol 2 weeks ago and I do not know what they did btr 7th Reg ...um ...WOW what a jump from the Bristol show and they earned it .....i think 7th Reg now has a better show than the Spartans

  7. Alot of people do not understand how Historic the Manning Bowl was to Drum Corps I know I am from the area BUT....expecially in the late 60's throught the late 70's It WAS THE MECCA for Drum Corps.. The World Open where you had a week of Drum corps all classes. pluse many corps Home show. North Star/27th /BAC/Arbella/and many local class A/B/C corps.... as run down as it got It was HOME...

I grew up at the top of the hill and remember hearing the Corps and My mother having to bring me there for prelims I must have been 5 years old.

  8. I'm not trying to defend CC, but in all fairness there's a big difference between a parade and a show, not the least of which is the audience. At a parade most spectators wouldn't know a top 3 corps if it jumped up and bit them on the butt. Just look at this thread. WE may have noticed it but the average person standing on the sidewalk and munching on an ice cream cone was probably completely oblivious to it. That's not an excuse, just a reality.

true but now people will look at that and think thats what a drum corps is plus they paid for a top corps and only got portion of one

  9. hh the

The Kowloon is a landmaarck to non residents(and former residents like me) alike. There was also Weylu's (back in the day) and a zillion roast beef places. Not far from Kelly's in Revere beach either.A great place to go(especially when there arent dead bodies floating ashore) :worthy:

Ahhh the memories of the turlet, er I mean Manning bowl.At least there is turf now, instead of dirt.lol

And don't forget the infamous Hill .Marching from the backfield to the front to the crest of the hill at mid field. I swear it was almost a 3 foot differance from sideline to that point lol

  10. The seats are aluminum benches (still a lot of seat numbers missing, just like the old Manning Bowl), in fact, the entire bleacher section is now aluminum. If you are familiar with Stellos Stadium in Nashua, NH these bleachers are practically identical, although I don't think they go up as high at Manning as they do at Stellos. The last few years anyway, the old Manning Bowl had the aluminum benches as well. Still a boat load of places to eat within walking distance of the stadium, Wendy's, Burger King, McDonald's, Papa Gino's. Kowloon's (reference other post above) is in Saugus, which is a couple of towns away-probably 20 minutes or so after you get out of the post show traffic.

Don't forget Mino's Roast beef On Lynn St just off Broadway lol
