  1. I think Logan can benefit from the number increase. They currently have have 30 members in their SW program but also have another 30 in their SO program and I am sure there are some people in their SO program that could of moved up if there was more room. Logan's colorguard during the marching season can march anywhere from 50-70 members. So it is possible for some world units. I don't know if they would want to increase to 40 but at least they have the option of adding on a few more people here and there. If you haven't check out their marching band on youtube you should, their colorguard is massive lol.

  2. Semi finals for SW update.Top ten

    Logan 96.55

    Carmel 95.90

    Avon 94.80

    Flanagan 92.4

    Arcadia 91.75

    Marian 90.40

    Trumbull 89.6

    Warren Central 87.55

    Choctawhatchee 87.3

    Miamisburg 87.3

Looks like Logan is starting to pull from the pack.

  3. -Independent World-

    1) Santa Clara Vanguard

    2) NEi

    3) Pride of Cincinnati

    4) Onyx

Don't care for many of the shows in IW this season. Vanguard's design concept doesn't sit well with me. Pride is bringing something very new and refreshing. Onyx is full of fun tricks, but it's getting really monotonous to watch. Love NEi's show, but not the costumes.

The last time I really liked what Independent World had to offer was in 2008.

    Scholastic World

    1) James Logan

    2) Carmel

    3) Avon

    4) Flanagan

I just love James Logan's show this year. I think it is miles above the rest of Scholastic World. You can see some videos from CCGC Championships and the changes they've made- it is a PHENOMENAL production!

Just caught Logans CCGC Championship performance on youtube and I LOVE the new ending with all the flips and how in the world did that guy do a walking handstand into the hat on the ground? It makes for a much more dramatic ending.

  4. I know it's WAY early to be talking about regionals for next year but I just want to say those attending Union City's Power Regional are in for a treat next year...

You will most likely will be performing in (or using the facilities) of James Logan's new $25 million Performing Arts Center which is slated to open during the 2009-2010 school year...

    http://www.nhsfoundation.com/images/Render...fArtsCenter.jpg

The new peforming arts center will seat 600 and has everything from band and guard rehersal space to green rooms and dressing rooms and teaching spaces.

And if you get hungry a $5 million dollar culinary arts center is being bulit next to the performing arts center and houses a public resturant on school campus.

    Edit////

Check out the virtual tour, it's pretty nice set up for a high school....

  5. Can you imgaine how more expensive it is for guards on the West Coast to have to fly out all the way to Ohio every year for WGI Championships. Geez just flying out there and staying at a hotel probably cost $600 alone and that's not including other trips for regionals, costumes, and other needs througout the season.

  6. Well here is some info for Logans program...I know a little bit about the program since I had a lot of dance friends do colorguard.

Logan used to have 3 feeder programs ( Alvarado, Barnard, and Chavez middle schools), however two of the middle schools have combined now and so Alvarado and Chavez middle schools feed to Logan now (they are both A class guards I believe). When I went to school they used to start training for colorguard in 7th grade but now they have actually started in elementary school, if you go to youtube and type in colorguard performance at logan you can see one of their elementary school guards, It's really cute and it's just simple flag work with some dance moves thrown in. I am not sure how many hours they practice a week since my friends were under Scott Chandler and not Mark but I know back then they had practice at night at least 3 times a week with all day practices on saturday and everyday at school they had a colorguard class.

Also they pretty much spin year round, when winterguard is over they roll over into marching season, and march over 70 colorguard members and have won 8 WBA (Western Band Assoc.) Championships. If the guard or the band has a performance they will run a full rehersal the same day in the morning and have the kids practice 4-5 hours before they leave on the busses for their show.

I also forgot to mention that Logan also has a SO guard, so I can guess you can consider that their JV guard

  7. So, it shouldn't be difficult for a guard to be promoted from SO to SW then, assuming the staff is basically the same?

I'm not saying they are promoting their ENTIRE SO guard to SW....only members who show that they are ready to perform at the SW level to fill in the spots left by graduating seniors.

  8. See, I wonder about this, because I also see guards who have tremendous turnover in membership do very well from year to year (I'm thinking primarily of Flanagan and James Logan). I always feel that it's the staff more so than the members themselves who bring out the talent in the kids. The kids just need to WANT IT and work for it based on what staff is saying and teaching them. Especially in A class.

As for small group size...I believe something like 10 of the top 15 guards in IA had fewer than 12 members?

Yea staff is very important but the difference is Logan, Flanagan and Avon (top 3 of SW) are well established guards and have feeder programs, so it's not like they are struggling to find members with expereince to fill in the gaps everyear. Also Flanagan and Logan are both large high schools...Flanagan has over 3,000 students (used to be the largest h.s in Flordia) and Logan has over 4,000 students (largest h.s in Northern California)...so they have a large group to pull from so I can assume that also helps them remain competitive every year. Also don't forget that Logan has a large SO guard as well, so even though they might have a large turnover every year in SW all they have to do is promote some of their guard members from SO and problem solved

  9. Congrats to Avon for FINALLY taking the gold....I thought they should of won it last year. Also congrats to Logan for jumping up two spots and taking the silver....they placed better then I thought they would =).

Sadly I am on the West Coast and was at a birthday all day so I missed the live feed...anyone have any reviews?

  10. Well I was hoping that James Logan would be able to pull it together for the gold but it looks like it just ain't gonna happen...ohh well I guess asking for an 11th gold medal is a little bit excessive lol...gotta share the wealth sometimes. I think Avon has the gold locked down and I say it's going to be a battle for silver between Logan and Flanagan but if I were a betting man I would say 1. Avon 2. Flanagan 3. Logan

  11. Scores are up from the California Color Guard Championships...Top scores were Logan with a 93.2 and SCV with a 95.2. Does anyone think it is strange Logan jumped up a whole 5 points from just last week when they scored a 88??

    Scholastic Open- Oak Grove 83.3

    Independent Open- Blue Devils 82.6

    Scholastic World- Logan 93.2

    Independent World- SCV 95.2

Rest of the scores can be found here http://www.theccgc.org/CCGC/Champ09.pdf

  12. I know. . .it'll be so boring now! I'm in dayton. . .I live about 5 minutes from UD arena! :-)

I've been watching the weather for WGI. . . .I'm sad to report, right now it looks like rain! ;-( Thursday might be nice, but Friday and Sat are both supposed to rain and be in the 50's

Then again, it's ohio so it can change at any moment and probably will

They should move WGI championships out to California....it's a nice 75 degrees out here. I know the kids from the West Coast would love it, we can't handle cold weather...we think 60 degrees is cold lol.

  13. Every year is a new year, so I dont understand why people must compare 2009 shows with the year before?

I truthfully believe that there is going to be a race for the gold with all three Flanagan, Logan, and Avon definitley, hands down; however we can't forget about Carmel or Warren who are also up there. You never know.

I can't 'predict' a place for either of them to place in, though. All of them have great shows, some have more flaws than others, but avon and flanagan are the ones that will be bumping heads in my opinion. I really think everything with Logan right now is just in their name, since they are the 'dynasty.' Well Avon definitley is putting up a huge fight because those girls and one guy really want it this year! They definitley have the best in the clarity of their show. Flanagan doe seem a bit rushed in like two parts, but i still love the show, it gives it a blood rushing feeling to it. i must say, if you are saying their past shows are similiar, tell me how this year is similar to 'postsecret', 'on this team', 'world war 2' and/or 'this is my moment' other then them having a meaning to it? It is the only show that has touched me emotionally when I watched them between the three guards. They are also the only guard of the three that had a standing ovation at their latest show if you didn't notice on fannetwork. Logan, on the other hand. I just don't understand what is going on in the show. The only two things that are clear to me are how the 'people' are coming out of the ground and the sacrifice, other moments however, seem a bit ridiculous; such as the frog and kangaroo moment. But I wish all three of them luck and hope they put on a show, because it is gonna be TIGHT.

Besides, I jsut wanted to also mention another guard that touched me in SW which is Freedom guard. I've seen their show twice, live, now, and its amazing how far they've come from the beginning. I'm so amazed how they are doing so well in their first year in SW and I must say congrats.

Other guards, I can't be so amazed with unfortunatley. I'm not gonna say any names; they know who they are

*sorry if im not making sence. im not trying to prove any points, jsut putting out opiniong  *

there is a post about James Logans show a couple pages back, it explains the theme of the show if you don't understand it. Quick breakdown though its about one of the first peoples to inhabit earth...the aborginals (if you couldn't tell by the music) and their connection to earth and all that good stuff. As for the ending of their show that confused you its a dream sequence ( hence the tittle of their show)...you can see a member of their team laying down on the ground with blanket pretending to sleep and thats when all the props come out.

  14. For the life of me, I don't see a 3-way race. I know you are a fan of Logan and I do think they are a fantastic guard. I just believe both Avon and Flanagan are superior this year. Who knows, I might be proven wrong but I wouldn't shocked if either Avon or Flanagan took it this year. I would be TOTALLY shocked if Logan won....

Yea I am fan of Logan but I don't look at them with rose colored glasses on either, if I thought their show didn't stand a chance I wouldn't say it does. To be honest I don't think Avons or Flanagan shows are superior to Logans, although I have to say I don't really care for Logans ending. I thought Flanagans show was lacking in design, Avons and Logans show desings are far more complex then Flanagans. Actually Logan and Avons shows are totally different from their last seasons shows....Flanagan not so much. I don't know why it would be so shocking for Logan to win again, I mean they have done it 10 times before lol =) But I think it's going to be a battle between Avon and Logan for gold with Avon taking gold, Logan with the silver, and Flanagan in 3rd

  15. Videos are up for Union City and Tampa regionals. James Logan has REALLY cleaned up their show and their rifle line looks a LOT better than the other show on the network. However, I still think It will be a slug fest for the gold between Flanagan and Avon.

Santa Clara Vanguard was just gorgeous. The show is even cleaner than the other two on fan network as it should be 2 weeks prior to WGI.

Corona is another story. There is NO WAY they were only 2 points behind SCV. They are still incredibly droppy. I lost count somewhere between 9 - 11. I do love that Purple flag work at the end of the show though.

I have to agree Logan REALLY cleaned up their show, it looks 100x better from the Ceres regional. However I have to disagree and say that I think after viewing Logans show from their regional if they keep it up I think they have a good shot at the gold medal too. Looks like it's three way race to the top between Avon, Flanagan, and Logan

  16. I thought Logan had a girl spinning rifle, but she is in fact a sabre. . .however based on how some of those boys are spinning, perhaps they should think about adding a couple females to the group.

And yes, Avon has a boy this year! ;-)

Yea as much as I hate to say it Logans riffle line isn't looking too hot this year....I don't know why, perhaps an off season? I didn't find their riffle line too impressive during marching season either and it's strange because they were strong on riffle last year. The sabre girls are def. stepping up their game though. I have never seen so many girls toss sabre's during marching season or indoor.
