  1. Hey there drum corps fans. Where's the love for the Hurcs ? Although I'm sure I'm a bit biased and haven't seen the corps yet this year I'm betting nothing short of a very good and, as usual very competitive addition of "old, new and Blue rolls out of Seymour very shortly. Here's my picks for 2011. 1. Bucs Until someone steps up to the plate and takes it from them. Not going to beat themselves. 2. MBI See above 3. Hurcs I really think this is the year they break free from the fourth place rut. 4. Cabs See above only fifth place applies here. 5. Empire Although I see the top five being very close scoring wise I just don't see the Statesmen in third again. 6. Corpvets 7.Alliance 8.Renegades 9.Kilties 10. Bush
  2. Hello D.C. Fans Just a few thoughts on the top 3 open class corps this evening. CorpsVets out of Atlanta,GA were a pleasent surprise and apparently MUCH improved over the corps first outing down south a few weeks ago. This writter didn't have the greatest view but the corps appeared light years ahead of past years visually and sounded great. The Disney format seems to fit the corps very nicely and hass them in the thick of things for a potential top 5 spot this season. A very solid 79.375 had them 2.750 behind second place Hurcs, Hurricanes blew in from Seymour ,CT with their "Heaven Sent" program and showed vast improvements in all captions. As this program evolves and is better understood the corps scoring potential should come to fruition. Brass was much improved over Bridgeport both in subilties and power. Stamina also showed vast improvement with only the very end of the production showing any weakness. Color guard was outstanding as was the always razor sharp percussion. Just a very solid job by the crew from the valley. A very respectable82.125 Empire Statesmen...The masters of crowd appeal did not disappoint. The Wizard of Oz program , complete with the wicked witch, Dorthy and other eliments Of broadway productions "Wicked and Oz played to the audience with all of the usual statesmen showmanship the corps is known for. Brass of 55 plus have a very nicely blended and powerrful sound and are high point of the corps elements at this time with the battery and guard not far behind. The visual program is much better than in recent years. ES should be in the thick of things in Rochester come labor day as should the Hurcs and CV. Empire's 84.063 put them solidly in first tonight, 1.938 ahead of CT. A very enjoyable Contest in up state NY.
  3. Greetings to all you D.C. fans. Hope everyone is safe ,well and happy. Now lets get down to the reality of this thing.Certainly its almost everyone's tendency to put too much stock into the first shows results. But even being the WIZARD does not afford me the luxury of being able to predict the outcome of finals at Ra-Ra-Rochester labor day weekend. Lets enjoy the way I think this thing is going to play out. We have yet to see Empire, who can NEVER be counted out. Who knows what kind of evil, twisted stuff the wacky Renegades will bring to the table. Bush is Bush.Look at the end of '08. Nuff said. Can Minn.brass follow up a fantastic 08 season ? The Cabs appear to be back to they're old selves. And oh yes.Am I forgetting anyone?I may be a bit biased on this one,but so what. deal with it. My Beloved HURCS are bringing something very special to D.C.A. and fans everywhere this season. But don't take my word for it .Wait until you've had the opportunity to enjoy our 09 production. And I would be remiss if I left that menace from Reading out. Until someone steps up and proves BEYOND ANY DOUBT to have beaten them the D.C.A. title will remain in PA. Much too good of an organization to just "drop the ball" or give it away! Right now they're challenge is to continue beating the Buccaneers. This is going to be one hell of a season!!! Lets all quit trying to figure it out and enjoy the ride !!
