Hey all! I'm a parent of a Crown alum/Scout intern and just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the Pioneer show in Centerville on Monday night. Pioneer got a good crowd response because the show is very enjoyable. Way to go Pio!
-
Well, we're a week away and by now most plans should be set. Who's going and to see what?
Star of Indiana Alumni will perform during semis.
I'm also a fan of Scouts and Crown! Hope they both keep moving on up!

Understandable. But in all honesty, it's better to break a horse before you try and ride it. Otherwise, he eithe won't let you on, or he'll take off uncontrollably once you are, if you catch the analogy. It's easier to create the sound you want first and THEN unleash it than to try to shape and control a hot mess once it's out there.
I watched practice at Fenwick on Sunday and they were still not being fully unleashed for the reason stated above. So the good news is that they likely still have a little something to give in the upcoming weeks.
As others have said Scouts were without a doubt the fan favorite at Soaring Sounds in Centerville on Monday. Audience members jumped to their feet like they had no choice. Awesome!

Does anyone have any details on where the Scouts will be staying for the Centerville, OH show? I would like to take some of my students who are attending the show to see them rehearse during the afternoon. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Not sure when they arrive but they will be practicing there on Sunday, August 1.

Maybe they will find replacements before Finals.
I don't think they plan to but I'm out of the loop a bit.
-
Crown's fifth in Percussion may be due to a number of injuries. I think they are out for good and are not being replaced so that may be an achilles heel for Crown.
-
I'd like to see it, but the recap does indeed paint an accurate picture of "ordinal feasting" by the rest of the top 5. It's like the SEC in football, too many good teams means lots of 9-3 seasons and only one 12-0!
I completely agree!

GO GET 'EM STAR OF INDIANA!!!!!....oh wait....17 years too late...
The great thing is that Star is still influencing drum corp through leadership in both Crown and now Scouts...
-
So I was right?
Yes.
-
Does anyone without a Crown picture in their signature or avatar have a problem with tonight's results? Anyone?
I don't have a problem with scores. Its a great season. Drama!

Find a way to get one of them to go to a rehearsal with you. Or a show.
What he said.
And let your parents know what trade-offs you're willing to make in order to march. I don't know how old you are but some things that come to mind as a parent myself- are you willing to forego a car to drive to school and the insurance that goes with it? Can tuition be your combined Birthday and Christmas presents for the next year. No new school clothes for the beginning of the year? No spring break vacation? An afterschool job during the school year? Are you willing to live at home and go to community college instead of a big name university? Whatever sacrifices you are willing to make and articulate to them as well as introducing them to the activity might sway them in your favor. Put it in writing. Just ask for one year of marching. When they see how the experience impacts your life maybe they will be willing to go for year two.
I give my son the opportunity to march each year because I find it far more rewarding and character building for kids than working a minimum wage job slinging burgers. Luckily, I already knew the value of being involved in a competitive marching activity because he was in a fantastic HS music program (THANK YOU Jay Webb and Matt Harloff!) You may not be in the same situation so you need to help your parents see how positively the activity can affect your life.
If finances are so tight that helping you out is not an option then you should start a new thread (or look up old ones) to ask former marching members for creative ways to pay for tuition. Good luck and best wishes!

You could have stopped and said hello, I would have shared my 45 with you......
So kind! Next year!

double post

Not a big thing. Just a little change in the Puck ending and Tinkerbell took over DM duties for that part.

it's ok, I love those bags ,I put my mouthpieces in them.
I took my son to do laundry on free day in San Antonio at a near downtown laundrymat and some guy had a bottle of Colt 45 in a Crown bag getting happier and happier doing his laundry. or maybe not...
-
you mean "Crown Royal"
Apparently I had too much Crown Royal... the stuff in the pretty little purple bag...
-
yes I apologize. my brother marches for crown and once I saw the scores I got a lil excited and had one too many shots of bourbon.
I thought a little too much Royal Crown perhaps...
-
absolutely. now that thwave hot the 95 range they are actually nipping at the heels o bd. this s gonna be one jell of a final week to the season
CMFC!!!
huh? It appears you are nipping something. J/K... It IS going to be a h&*% of a final week.
-
Tink directed the end of Puck tonight. If she had flown they might have done better dang it!
-
If you're a Crown fan, then tonights are completely applicable and accurate!
If you're a fan of Cavies, Cadets, or BD, then you can't compare different shows!
...That about right?
lol. But for the record I'm a Crown fan and I don't think you can compare shows on two nights even with the same judges in the same venue due to human nature/error/whatever you want to call it.
Before the shows I heard speculation that the division with the Big Three would be a detriment to CC. Now some people are going to say it was better for CC because they scored so well. It wouldn't have been a surprise for CC to finish second to BD and it wouldn't have been a surprise if they'd finished fourth. Its just that kind of season.
-
would be great to see 1) no posting/printing/knowing about the qtrs/semis scores going into Saturday night 2) blind draw for finals top to bottom, no 1-6 and 7-12... just a straight up "you made it one more night, now pick a number".... let the champion be determined based on the value of the show and not the previous nights recaps... yes, there are some pre-determined neighborhoods once we get to Saturday night.... but that's just my two cents... show dynamics play a part, but these scores are predictable..... we've had some nice suprises through the season, but such predictability as well....
I don't know, I've scratched my head on a number of scores when it has come to HNC, Cavs, and CC. All over the place in caps
-
so can we really compare since it was a different day?
Ups the drama for next week for me.
-
Someone had figured out what CC would need to score tonight to go on after HNC and Cavs in quarters. Does anyone know those numbers? It was a 94.? to go after HNC and 95.? to go after Cavs.
