Now that I think about it, didn't Blue Stars beat everyone in the 70's before they dropped divisions?
Nice!!! But did they ever beat Crown?
-
I'm gonna say Troopers but I don't know about the notables... Maybe Bob Kalkofen is one?
Oh that might be true--I'll go ahead and give it up, might be too obscure--Gerry Kearby is one, from Kingsmen, Blue Devil fame in the 70's and Ralph Humphrey is the other, Frank Zappa's drummer in the early 70's...............next
-
I only know the 2nd half of that one. Troopers is where he marched
Yup, anyone remember who marched with him?
-
Ok, in the interest of moving forward....
What corps snare line did Fred Sanford hone his drumming chops with AND, what two (reasonably) notable people marched next to him?
-
If Bleu Raeders marched 3 then you are correct. My answer was 73' Commodores who also marched 3. I didn't realize there was a tie,
Shoot, I'm not sure, forgot about Stockton--we may need a ruling from the officials...Bleu Radiers may have had 4.
-
1974 Polish Falcon Cadets
1975 Watkins Glen Squires
1987 Florida Wave
If I'm right, and I know I am...
Who marched the smallest snare line in Finals and how many did they have?
1975 27th with 4? Or was it '73 Bleu Raiders with 3.....
-
I don't see a rotor.. and the mouthpiece looks like a French horn allright!
photo is maybe late 50's early 60's? When did we add rotors? I forgot..
Gee, I'm not much help... LOL!!
Looks like a Getzen.
-
1975. :)
I don't feel like asking a question, so someone else can take the next one.
Oddly enough, that was my last show.
-
hahahahaha....sorry that was funny--who's on first............
-
Nope. I can't help you if you were " thinking of a different Corps ". If my answer is "correct " ( which it is, as a V shaped wedge is still "a compact wedge " and the V shaped compact wedge was in fact " their signature move ") then I answered correctly.
Ok, I was thinking of Blue Rock but Kilties will do.......your serve......
-
Racine Kilties
Hmmm, wasn't that more of a V than a wedge, I was thinking of a different corps.....but maybe there's more than one.
-
OK---What corps marching signature move was a compact wedge?
-
Correct!
And then that person asks the next question. Should be easy to follow along. For any suggestions on changing rules as we go, we will do as needed. So here's the real question:
Name one drum corps who was one of the original founders of DCI in 1972.
LaCrosse Blue Stars

Apparently, you now stand corrected My friend’s Mom had dated a drum corps instructor. They took us to 2 local contests in 1968. June 15, CNE Stadium with Boston Crusaders, Blessed Sac, Kilties, Optimists, Marching Ambassadors and Canadian Commanders. August 17, at Varsity Stadium with Troopers, Des Plaines Vanguard, St. Joseph’s of Batavia, De La Salle Oaklands, Toronto Optimists and Cadets La Salle. Debbie and I joined drum corps September 1968 :-)
I joined Nisei Ambassadors B corps in 1970 as I was barely 12 years old but didn't get to see a show till June '71 (apparently!) it was at a HS stadium on Oakton Blvd, Niles or Skokie--Main West? Something like that. There was a clown there. Can't remember the other corps in attendance.....probably the local powers.
-
The clown show was 1971.
I was waiting for that. Right after I posted it.....

Boo is right, this post has definitely jumped the shark....... or has it?
I say we have a poll
here are your choices:
A) YES this post has jumped the shark!
B) NO this post has stayed on task.
C) What the heck does "Jump the Shark" mean?
D) You're all wrong this post has clearly jumped the "crocaduck" or "Fowligator" or "Mallardgator" ...etc
Please reply responsibly
E) Madison Scouts.

Cavalier show 1970. Clowns. But I got over it. Turned out the guy who was the clown went to my high school. We're all connected.
-
I was going to say 42, but I changed my mind to RC because it's the best with pizza. And, it's a crockaduck.........
-
The above is in 3/4 and the first "knock" is an anacrusis (pick-up beat) on beat 3. It should be followed by the next section, also in 3/4 in which you fill a rest with 2 eighth notes on the new word:
Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip!...Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip!
Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip!...Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip!
Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip!...Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip!
Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip!...Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip!
Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip!...Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip!
Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip!...Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip!
repeat 37 more times.... followed by the following in 3/4 + 4/4 in which you add a beat after the eigth notes you used for "Phillip":
Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip GLASS!...Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip GLASS!
Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip GLASS!...Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip GLASS!
Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip GLASS!...Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip GLASS!
Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip GLASS!...Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip GLASS!
Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip GLASS!...Knock Knock...who's there? Phillip GLASS!
Etc!
Mmmm, I'm gettin' a 5/8 feel from the first set, phrasing Phillip! in 16ths--and 6/8 on the bottom set unless you use the rests (...) for a pause..................
-
Gotta' do what you gotta' do--best of luck to you----------go Troop!!
-
Then, of course, there is my all time favorite knock knock joke (trust me...it's not off topic...):
Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? Knock Knock...who's there? (repeat 30 + more times...)
(answer): Philip Glass
Very clever...

WOULD a woodchuck chuck?
Another fascinating stat: In 1980, I was not in a corps that made finals.
In 2009, I was not in a corps that made finals.
Weird.
That happened to me too.....
-
There is no "Grassy knoll", there is no conspiracy, no hidden adgendas, no "dirt" to dig up.
There is just a prudent decision by two healthy and successful DCA corps to do as John said.
just sayin....
No grassy knoll, no shooter, just Elvis.

I predict that a good number of DCP users will continue to post obvious truths as predictions in a failed attempt at humor.
Oh man, coming from a fellow Blue Star alum, that hurts! It wasn't humor, but pointed sarcasm disguised as bad humor aimed at yet another "gee, who'll win the big game?" thread. Sometimes Barbie Doll stuff just floats up on DCP and every now and then I can't resist. Bad habit, I know.....
