I'd love to share some stories of the good old days, but the best stories can't be told because:
a) The statute of limitations for the crimesactivities involved still hasn't run out
b) It would violate the terms of several participants probation
c) You can't talk about that kind of stuff on a family board
Some day ...
This.....

I think that's a guy, but yes.
Oh. Good thing.

Bump
Is she going for a sun tan?

I predict that the corps with a score that is higher than any of the other corps, will win DCI this year.

Open it, now.

Will "SCDA East" be doing things the "Arena Corps" way? A wide Varity of things. ( I Like )
OR,
Will it be the just more like the show DCA Mini Corps contest way. Mostly, "20 Brass and a Drumset Ensemble" type thing. 21 Max etc. (I do not like as well as "Arena Corps".)
Last I heard it explained to me, anything out of the norm is welcome as long as there's advanced interest or activity in that particular genre--for neato bosso drum lines to compete there needs to be maybe at least 5 or 6 units to make it a party. Not just one drum line. My guess is that if there's enough oddball corps going on then they should pull together to make a sub-circuit and SDCA would and should let you compete. I bet there's enough oddballs out there.....

exactly... why look at the turbans... they wore turbans?! OH. Didn't notice that! LOL!
Turbans. And drapes.

No, Madonna didn't march, but Natalie Cole, Nat King Cole's daughter marched Kingsmen back in the day. Cool enough I guess.

Yep, and it's in a series of pics from Mt. Rushmore.
Oh no! There's a chance that I might be in one of those. I did that Rushmore swing on the way to Casper. Any way you can post more?

I agree this was just the start. Because the 75 SCV snareline has to be the best snareline from the tic system era. To my knowledge there wasn't a single tic tabulated by the snareline at DCI that year. In fact I believe there were only 6 tics by the whole drumline all from other lines than the snareline. Didn't they score a 19.4?
Yes they did. I really liked those days. We didn't know what to expect from year to year, very exciting times.

Snagged off of Facebook:
Looks like Dave K. and Moe from Blue Stars....'74 too.....my only year with them.....the 70's look so 70's.......

When drum corps becomes about the music and execution again--that would make me happy.

For me this "Golden Age of Drum Corps" would begin in 1974. If you listen to the recordings from this year the corps are fantastic. Almost every corps to make finals that year had great programs and many of the corps that did not make finals were wonderful too. The "Golden Age" would continue until 1989 I guess. Maybe a year or too earlier. I do not think the 90's were kind to the programming of the corps and the activity lost so many corps.
Thanks MaxwellNotes--that was the first year I/we made finals--

How many bass drum are there in the solo?
Not enough...

This is all happening now. You just have to find out what's in your area or where you're willing to go.
Go here--

if you contact these folks just ask about other drum lines and small corps that want to be a part of them--there's more than what's on the web site.

When I first started marching I had heard about the "hotpants" they wore. Then before a show, a Blue Star color guard member and I walked passed each other in the hallway of the school we were at. That was the first time I saw what everyone was talking about up close. All I can say is "YOWSA!!!!!". Sorry to say I didn't try to talk to her. I was a tall skinny shy 16 year old at that time. I didn't know what to do. I am proud to say that later I was taught well by my elder Cavalier brothers as to what to do in those situations. It served me well later on in life
Ok, truth be told, the hot pants were very flattering and yielding but, I think there's a couple of other forces at play here. The boots were an integral part of the look, acting as the bottom part of the frame and the pants as the top--with the navy blue, tan, and white color scheme working well and boots providing the locomotion. Topped with a matching white turtle shell with a RED plume the look was undeniable. If they had say, black Trooper length boots, they would not look nearly as interesting. Well, maybe they would, but that's not the point!

So I'm thinking we can meet in the middle--rollerblades and a concrete gridiron. (Drum roll, please) You can now twirl a guard member through a triple Lindy rather than fling the rifle itself. Judges can be rude eastern Europeans and Motorola.......
Guess Who?
