  1. I was surrounded by Crown fans last night, and the unanimous conclusion was that the ending needs re-writing. I like the return to Resurrection at the end, but it needs to develop better, and I'd love a marathon FFFFF chord like the one you suggested for Bluecoats.

apparently has already been done. just waiting to put it on the field

  2. wow crown jumps from 17.6 and finishing 6th in atlanta, to 18.4 the very next night. was it just that much better of a performance. if the percussion can stay in the mid to high 18 range by finals and some of the new changes i hear are coming pan out, this corps could potentially crawl its way back into top 3

  3. If i believe the "Crown BoD"member sitting in front of me at NightBeat, some major rewrites are coming for Crown very shortly. Dont take it as fact until we see it.

you are correct. have heard from an extremely relaible source that new changes implemented tuesday i believe. and he is very excited about them, which makes me doubly excited to see them

  4. Heard Yesterday from a very reliable source that Carolina Crown is down to 7 snares. Ashleys tendonitis in her elbow was just apparently causing her alot of pain and im assuming that she made her decision to step out for the remainder of the season was because that she felt it was definately affecting her playing and ultimately the rest of the group. im sure that was an extremely difficult decision for her to have to make. then a second member of the line told the group that he was stepping away for personnal reasons. they are currently trying to find ashley a spot in the pit to keep her active within the group, and the other guy may be just temporarily gone. they dont know for sure yet.

My initial reaction was wow that really sucks, but after thinking about it more i think it will help the snareline and drumline overall in the future. if you have someone whos playing is being affected by injury and another whose playing is affected by just mentally not being there, removing those two links of the chain should make the rest of the line come together that much more i personally think could help make them cleaner and better for it in the long run.

question for you is do you think this will effect the group moving forward

  5. alot of them played together at Redline.

4 out of 9, but the four of them are not standing next to each other on this line. therefore have to get new feels for new players to know when to adjust to them as far a listening, speeding up slowing down ect. plus adjusting to playing with a large brass sound that can have some effect on the a fore mentioned.

  6. Hmm. There's a couple things in your first paragraph I disagree with. First, aren't all judges trained and instructed to look for the same things and evaluate accordingly, and NOT judge based on personal preference? It seems people forget that drumlines can come out and rock it, and at times they can come out and do ok, and at times they can come out and bag it. Everyone has bad shows from time to time. I don't think it is accurate to blame judges "preferences" on score fluxuations, UNLESS there is a long string of scores that seem consistent over time and then one that pops out as being vastly different on one night. Then you may have an argument that the one score is an anomaly.

there is alot of truth in what you say. i had just driven all the way back home to lexington from dublin and it was pretty late when i wrote this last night. maybe preferences wasnt the best word to use in that scenario. the biggest thing i was trying to get at was just that even tho theyare all trained to look at the same things, one might be more keen on technique, where one might give credit for demand. a judge may be out in the field in front of the battery and miss a good front ensemble element. or vice versa. really was just trying to hint that there are alot of things that can cause a judges take from night to night to fluctuate

  7. Whats with Crowns percussion? It seems that thats been hurting a lot this season looking at recaps.

I have a few opinions, and the are JUST OPINIONS!!!!

1- judging. judging varies very dramatically from judge to judge based on preferences and what the each look for. just less than a week ago at a previous contest, crown beat both the bluecoats and phantom in percussion, then tonight they finished third. just a difference in judges point of view. also just for pure speculation puropes (tonights judge was the same judge that had crown 4th at quarterfinals last yr, and as everyone knows the ended up only being like .2 back of BD for best overall percussion)

2-Inexperience. Crown has many new faces on its line this yr. they are still learning to play with each other and i personally (again just my opinion) believe their book to be more challenging and difficult than some lines, say the cavies for example. so the caives may be cleaner at this point in time, therefore scoring higher, but it will be interesting to see how crown comes together over the next month and change and i expect them to be scoring much better if not beating a few of the groups ahead of them come finals time

  8. Cavies were really Meh tonight, IMO. Saw some flashes of past drill flashes, but not much.

I kept thinking "Where's the power from those horns?"

    I agree...

Cavies- did a great job of entertaining my 12 year old sister, but that's just it. For me this show was just catchy and fun to watch. Wasn't blown away by any one thing (esp thought the company front towards the end lacked power and emphasis) this show to me just doesn't have that championship feel to it, or even the usuall cavies feel that I am used to getting.

Bluecoats- Really enjoyed this show. Can definately see this show being in the top 4 come august 12

Crown- could definately see this show winning this year. Love the visual the corp does behind the battery in the break where they all layed down behind the drumline very cool. The sound (and quality of the sound) that this group puts out was definately in a league of its own tonight. Amazing brass with good drums and good guard. Def a recipe for success and wish all these groups the best

  9. Very excited for this show. Will be the first time all summer that I will get a chance to see my brother perform with Crown this season.

It is a very good battle going on so far between them and the Coats, and would love to see them remain ahead of them. although i will concede a victory at this show to see them win come finals night.

so needless to say am very excited for this contest tomorrow night

  10. Crown- has added many changes ( movement, guard, color and drill) that has made their show much more exciting. They are still learning the changes I think they'll pull out another win.

Bluecoats- Great show very exciting. They get better every time I see them. Isee them closing the gap a little.

Boston- Their show kind of reminds me of 1993 Cadets ( In the springtime when knights go of to war) I think they will overtake Phantom tonight.

Phantom- I'm starting to like their more and more. I haven't gotten use to seeing less than 16 tubas. less than a point down from BAC.

Spirit- I don't like their show. I'll keep an open mind and watch it again.

Surf- This is their time to shine with their Patriotic show. Great solo's.

    Raiders- 1st veiwing

Muchachos- With 128 members, A powerful brass line and a drum line that will surely challange for the top spot come championships. Just kidding. Haven't seen them this year.

very well predicted. i def agree that crowns changes have been for the better and is making their show even better

  11. What I'm thinking will go down tonight...

    1. Crown - New ending makes the crowd and judges know they're there to stay at the top.

    2. Cadets - Cleaner...but still needs some cleaning and tweeking.

    3. Cavaliers - Starting to see that Cavie finesse...but still a bit to go to catch the others

    4. Blue Stars - GREAT first showing from the LaCrosse group and has potential to keep up/if not pass 1-2 corps ahead of them

    5. Scouts - Just all around better than the Glassmen tonight - I see these guys battling it out throughout the season.

    6. Glassmen - Still needs some work...but a good show!

    7. Colts - First show jitters are out of the way!

    8. Pioneer - Still needs a lot of work...but has potential!

Lets hope for a great show!

    AGREEED!!!
