I think there is something wrong with me. I have tried and tried to like BK’s show, but it just is too esoteric. The kids are playing and marching well, but the music does nothing for me.

really want to see Blue Stars pass BK tonight - how they didn't top them in GE last night is a mystery....

Am I the only one who noticed a trumpet player sticking out on the ending, VERY out of tune and VERY loud?
I think somebody was expressing his frustration and displeasure with that show. It was pretty bad and not an accident, IMO.
yep - we noticed that too -- hopefully it was just unfortunate proximity to mic? but yeah - not exactly trying to blend there buddy.. 😉

Just what the hell did he say?
synopsis from reddit:
I don't mind Dan Potter, but asking Spartans drum major after their last competitive performance in front of the semis audience if their championship deserves and asterisk by it since BDB and SCVC didn't attend was not the question to ask. Of all the things you coulda asked, that's what you go with?
Would both of them been in the running? Absolutely. But I am so sick of seeing that being the talking point instead of talking about Spartans best drum corps since at least 2007, if not ever, and their incredibly energetic and entertaining performances over the last few days. Maybe I'm overreacting, but it just rubbed me the wrong way.
Have fun tonight, and you don’t deserve an asterisk.

Sounded like a rougher brass run in fist half but strong after.
hmm... no - I disagree
Horns were just as strong as last night.

I did a search. There's a pretty good lambasting.
He probably feels bad about it --
I mean, it is an obvious question.... but....
There are a lot of other things you could bring up....

It’s impossible to believe that he thought about all the questions he was going to ask that kid, and somehow that made the short list.
There could be a big twitter eruption over this -- ala the guy from flo

New memes - awkward Dan Potter interview questions --
"So Claire, drum major, er I mean Conductor for Phantom Regiment, your corps -- barely making the top 12 this year -- how do you feel?"

I still believe that this show is one of the most seamlessly designed shows ever - a 7 minute opener!!!??? Talk about drawing the listener in!!!
Today's designers could learn a lot from this show

A single track would be nearly impossible to get the timing right on, not to mention the need to edit every time beats were added to the show or things changed.
Thanks - so each element is triggered in real time by some one on the synth or sound board?
-
I have a question on how the pre-recorded tracks are dropped into the show --
is there basically one continuous track that the corps plays along with, or are the individual samples "dropped" in real time - ie someone presses a key on a keyboard --
I would think this would be really tricky from a timing sense ---
it would seem to make more sense if the accompanyment track is a single track that the sound board op begins at the very beginning of the show --
Does anyone know how this is done?

I noticed Phantom Regiment most because their speaker was right under the podium shaking the seats and under my feet. It was annoying.
PR was the first show I caught in the theater last night - several times their thunder goo just completely overwhelmed the theater's sound system -- all that came through was a rumble rattle -- hilarious!!!!
Do these sound designers know what they are doing? Do they ever listen to their own product?

I was really impressed with how much the show has been polished and perfected over the last week - great job! Would love to see them awarded a little bit more in GE so the could pass BK...
Blue Stars have done a great job of designing boutique shows for the past several years - unique stories, told in an engaging way -- they have been consistently strong in all areas --
Stop Start Keep
Stop show specific costumes every year
Start developing a consistent visual/costume/uniform look - I'd really like to see a signature uniform that communicates who you are and nails down your brand
Keep up the good work in perc, brass and guard - continue to build on your musical and visual execution talents- 1

Eh Nashville laughed because it was so obvious. Give it to Boston, they are performing their show as good as it can be played. They have the least compelling book maybe in the top eight, but they are just killing the performances!
Would really love to see BAC win high guard this year - are the caption awards based on average over 3 nights? Or just finals?
-
not sure if it was just the theater I was at but overall the sound was ok - at times the thunder goo was very heavy -
I noticed a slight delay that I have not noticed in the past - it was super distracting
these theater show as are just too hit and miss

Dan's question to Goliath?
So how did that feel when your head was totally visible after you were supposed to get your head off?
