    Madison Scouts Present “Between the Lines”

    this thread is a case study in DCP conversation patterns-
    initial innocuous post followed by a couple pages of general OP support then a little sarcasm is entered in on about page 3 and then the floodgates open...

    like Tom and Jerry, Roadrunner and Coyote, Lucy and Charlie Brown.... topic devolution never fails to deliver --

    To the OP's point, I think the program sounds safe and it does appear that the concept is to keep the show design well within the lines of what we have come to enjoy in Madison shows --
     

    I hope the best for the entire ensemble - what is going to be the key to the groups success is internal stability - the entire corps needs to stay focused on being patient and supporting each other and performing at a high level. Don't get caught up in the social media buzz pro or con -- just stay in the moment, each member needs to focus on what they are doing and do the next right thing -- looking for approval from others will only be a distraction.

    I hope something great is building at Madison.

    Remembering Frank Pasquerella - original Bluecoats Autumn Leaves soloist

    We lost a great friend of the marching arts this past summer - Frank Pasquerella passed away August 7, 2020.

    Frank Pasquerella marched the Bluecoats Drum & Bugle Corps in the 80s, and left a lasting legacy in many ways. Perhaps most poignant, Frank will forever be remembered as the original Autumn Leaves soprano soloist, a position that now holds the highest of honors among the hornline. Following that original performance of Autumn Leaves featuring Frank, the song has now become the official Corps Song of the organization. Frank marched with the Bluecoats in 1982, 84-88.

    Frank marched with Phantom Regiment during the 83 season. He was also on staff with Phantom 92-94 where he met his wife Maria.  

    Frank was a music educator and an advocate of the arts. He was truly loved as a member of the music department at Eastview High School in Apple Valley MN.

    Interesting! I didn't know a bunch of corps did Russian Christmas Music before Vanguard!

    Only thought of it as converting old cassettes and vinyl to mp3. (Retirement/Covid project) Have concert recordings of Crossmen and other corps. At least when I hear RCM I know it’s Crossmen.

    One thing I'm doing when on interminably boring zoom calls is do a google news search for drum corps - you will often find obituaries of people who have died recently. The obituary makes a passing reference to drum and bugle corps - such as, "She loved life, family, horses and drum and bugle corps."

    Scott Adams mentioned this youtube "reaction" genre today - he points out how the fun of watching these videos is in observing the enjoyment of the person viewing the video for the first time.

    I think he is onto something - there is something deep in our human nature that allows us to enjoy something new to us when we are surrounded by others who are enjoying that musical experience.

    At the risk of being cancelled, or having my content disabled, as Dilbert cartoonist and provocateur Scott Adams says - one thing 2020 has shown is, we suck at measuring things -- can anyone provide an objective or meaningful statistic on the infection fatality rate of c19? Do we even know?

    The media would have us believe that having c19 is a death sentence - equivalent to the plague or ebola - but to the best of our knowledge, do we know what percentage of people who get c19 die? I believe that the fatality rates are far higher with older (60+) and people with co-morbidities -- but HS marching band students? Is c19 particularly deadly to young people?

    Could anyone point to a non biased information source?

    I think where I was going with this was, youtube is a content platform - if you put out good content you will get subscribers and you will get more interest in your content - if DCI wants to grow its audience, it needs to grow its social media footprint.

    Why is DCI not allowed to post more content? Is it simply because of music copyright issues with the shows performed?
