  1. Every corps gets "unfavorable panels", even the Blue Devils. You don't see them complain, they just throw down and let the chips fall where they may. Just like Crown did. The bubble corps could take a lesson from this as well. Do what Crossmen did...they were on the bubble, so they went for it with a vengeance. I'm really not sure Blue Stars did (though I don't think that's any slight on their performers).

So what is it then? What are you saying?

  2. Last thing on the stars. There was a trumpet collision. While one trumpet tried to correct the mistake he again bumped into the other trumpet player who then back handed him. I am very upset at the amount of unprofessionalism that trumpet player displayed. Lord help him because if I was director, he would be in huge trouble.

From the Blue Stars Forum "I got this from a member, but apparently a trumpet fell and tripped another one, who fell over him. While falling she accidentally elbowed him."

  3. From the Roundtable forum -

Answer: (from Dan Acheson, DCI Executive Director and CEO)

The 2011 DCI Tour of Champions will be comprised of a series of eight events featuring the eight top corps from the 2010 World Championships.

There has been no determination as to whether or not the events will continue in 2012 or how the corps will be selected if there should be another series. These are discussions that will be held later in 2011.

  4. Bar –

As a Scotsman I hate to admit it but we only got as far as the bar in the hotel we stayed at, the Omni Severin. However, on the Wednesday night & the Saturday after Finals it was buzzing, full of Drum Corps folk. It was quite busy the Thursday & Friday too.

    Hotel –

I've only ever stayed at the Omni Severin. I can however thoroughly recommend it. Nice rooms, great bar and it's about 2 blocks from LOS. It also has a walkway into the Circle Mall which in the extreme heat was very useful. Extra tip – Join their loyalty program, you get a free drink delivered to your room every morning.

As Blue Stars parents we've stayed in the Omni and will be staying there again this year. I'll listen out for a Scots accent in the bar if you listen out for an English one.

    Food –

The only restaurant we visited for dinner was the Hard Rock Cafe. No surprises, I'm sure you all know what type of food to expect there. Every other night we ate pizza in the stadium. We ate Breakfast at a great place which was a 15 minute walk from the Omni but for the life of me I can't remember its name. I'll ask my wife when I get home… like Dennys but not.

    Le Peep?

  5. I called Ticketmaster yesterday - it was useless. They just kept saying they only had Row # Seats ## available at the price I noted. I asked if there were seats open higher in that section - or lower - and just kept getting the same answer. Oh - these were the same exact seats that came up when buying through their website.

I can only say that for the three years I have booked tickets I have spoken to an agent and been able to explain what I was looking for and choose my seats. Maybe it's because I'm calling from the UK with an English accent. Try a different agent.

  6. Does anyone have the judges list for tonight? Tried to skim thru the topic and didn't see them posted, but might have missed them.

  7. Hmm, personally I can find something bad to say about the sound and/or visuals in every spot I sit in every stadium, so you're way too positive to be of any help to me! :w00t: J/k, thanks for the perspective.

You're welcome. Here's a bit more perpective that may or may not help.

We've been to prelims, semis and finals for the past two years. We've sat at mid-level for prelims, back row on the 50 for semis and front row on the 35 for finals. That way, as well as getting different views of the shows, we've also minimised the cost of the tickets while still getting good seats. This year that's $55 per seat for each show. And speak to an agent rather than using the web site or phone system - Ticketmaster's idea of the best available seats does not match up with a drum corps fan's.

Mid-level gives good sound and ok view, although I still think the sound is good up high, plus you can see the forms brilliantly. And on the front row you get your face blown off, plus you get to see the kids up close, and you get to see all sorts of other stuff going on. The first year we were sat just above the announcer, you get to watch Mr Hopkins prowling up and down while Cadets are on, and you see the awards close up.

Like I said, different perspectives. I realise it's not possible for everyone, but coming from the UK we try to make the most of it.

And another point for skywhopper having just read your first post again, if you're just going to prelims you can probably wander round and try out various positions throughout the day because lots of seats don't get used for the whole time.
