Round Five Mandarins Vs Cadets at the Naval Academy in Primetime!
Cadets being the champions they are answered the bell last night and tied up the series 2-2.
Mandarins are proving they can punch above their weight class.
Wish Flo was broadcasting this one.
Roll out the TNT...........BOOM!
Hey Chief, here is hoping they both have a great run tonight! it's getting down to crunch-time :)
I have been a long-time fan of the 'Cadets' but I am thrilled for the Mandarins- great, great stuff!!

There is a wonderful neighborhood SOUTH of Hamilton Street, just across from Cedar Beach Park that usually has plenty of open street parking up till showtime and beyond. Best place to walk over into the park is at the 24th Street traffic signal. Once in the park, you will be surrounded by hundreds of fans and several corps warming up. This year, there will be the DCI Marketplace and various food trucks on adjacent to the park Linden Street
In addition, Muhlenberg College, located just above the stadium, opens a few of their lots to DCI fans. Then to, the massive Allentown Fairgrounds Lot a couple blocks above the stadium is available.
Regardless what you choose to do, plan on a little more walking than you expected.
This!!!
I live about 20 minutes from the stadium and have attended DCI East since the early 90's. I have parked at the above location for the past ~ 15 years and there is never an issue and no stress. If your heading East (on Hamilton) turn right onto one of the side streets before you get to 24th St. Find an open curb and park, walk to the light at 24th street and cross into the park. Enjoy!!!

Cadets not having much luck with appearance order lately!

I would have liked to see them scheduled back-to-back but no biggie compared to "Southwestern"- will the cadets close the gap with the Mandarins or will the talk of the evening be the progression of the latter towards Crown?
To answer my own question, considering the (I'll call it) unprecedented success of the Mandarins this year I am excited to see if they can close that gap as well!

Dear Mandarins, I have been a drumcorps fan for decades and am absolutely thrilled with your success! It is fantastic for your organization, most refreshing for the activity and I can only imagine how grand it is to be a marching member- may this be just the start for what is to come!

I really want to like this show, but half of it feels like an extended percussion feature. Until the end, every brass “moment” just seems like an interlude breaking up the percussion. I’m sure they’re playing as much as the rest of the top 12, but the pacing just feels totally off. Cadets (like Crown) are usually very good at doing clearly delineated “pieces” of music that the audience claps after, but this year seems like a step backward there. Maybe it’ll grow on me.
THIS!!!!
sorry for the double entry, new guy here!

Hmmmm, well stated and thanks for the "1st person" insight.
As someone who grew up in Columbus (graduated in 83') and have had a few friends in the OSU marching band it was always thought of as a true achievement to make the OSUMB.
I never tried out so I have no insight in that regard.
However, since then and after seeing many a drumcorps show, I have to agree, the lack of sound volume from OSUMB compared to top 12 Corps is startling.
If I may add (and I'm not a horn guy I was a snare drummer in high school) the quality of sound from a top 12 DCI corps is distinctly better than OSUMB.
As far as drumlines, OSU's is a 'B' level compared to a top 12 DCI drumline.
Now, to counter my own opinion the purpose OSUMB and a DCI corps are unique. The only similarity is that they both want to entertain, but to uniquely difference audiences.
I love them both in there own environment.

It's because patriotism isn't art. It's propaganda. Or kitsch.
Great art tends to take a critical, questioning stance toward society or the human experience.
Shoddy art appels to easy emotions and aims straight for the middle class sensibility.
Anytime people from any country start waving flags, I run in the opposite direction.
Well, good evening. During the "season" I'm a regular reader but this is my first post and the above is (mostly) what prompted me to get into the mix.
I am a proud (NCO) veteran of the United States Army and served 4 years on active duty. My father is a veteran of the Korean war. Who else am I? a conservative and a Christian.
I still remember my first day of basic training when the sun was setting and 'retreat' started playing from every loud speaker on the base. We were commanded to stop, face the flag and salute. This was a moment I will never forget as long as I live. I was surrounded by hundreds of men and not a sound was heard save that blaring bugle. that was the proudest moment I have ever felt as an american.
It's probably hard for you to understand, but that moment left an everlasting emotional imprint on me. That was the first moment when it became crystal clear to me that I was now training to fight for what that flag represents; partly the freedom for you and I or anyone else to write or say what they want (for the most part). That flag (then and still today) represents our country, the United States of America.
From where I'm sitting, patriotism is,,,,,,patriotism. I'm not trying to make anyone else think a certain way about America because I might carry a flag, hang one outside my house, or show up to celebrate my father as he was arriving at the airport on an 'honor flight'. If you don't know what this is, Google it. I thinks its a very special thing that is being done to honor WWII and Korean veterans.
These things are my way of showing my love for my country.
I don't know why you feel the way you do per your post, but you have the right to say it whether I agree with it or not. In fact, I'm glad you shared your thoughts because that gave me an opportunity to share mine.
thanks for reading.
