  1. Yes, that would have helped many. Again, for me, just sitting at home enjoying the Championships on my OWN big screen is worth $50-60 alone! If the other $40 I laid out gets me just one-third of the remaining broadcast schedule, I'm OK.

It would be interesting to calculate the total cost to actually attend these events. The figure for tickets alone, particularly if you purchase two seats, is lots of money.

The FN is not comparable to attending live events. You can't just add up the cost of tickets, gas, concessions, etc and promote a "savings" vs seeing a live performance. Unlike some major sports, an online stream for drum corps will never come close to the value of seeing a show live.

  2. I'll give DCI the benefit of the doubt...the new platform would really be exceptional if it could be used on Roku or Chromecast, and maybe we will have more reliable streams for the bigger events.

I really wish they would open up Finals and stop treating it like a Mayweather fight. The hardcore DCP-type fans will never be dissuaded from seeing a live show if they are able to. The niche, hardcore fans that want to watch a Tuesday night feed from Duncie, Oklabraska in June will pay for it regardless. Finals however, should be about as many eyeballs as possible on their best, most mainstream product. $10 Finals stream on YouTube to tap into all the future DCI market (music students) across the country.

There is still a segment of the population that thinks a low-cost Finals will deter attendance. What will it take to change this way of looking at it?

  3. If the office is run on a shoe string/bare bones then they should not set dates they cannot meet or offer services they cannot support.

I gave up communicating with DCI a couple of years ago. After multiple questions were not answered on the "Ask DCI" link, then having to call the office to try and get an answer and then having another issue due to communication problems, I'm not going to bother any more.

    It's not rocket science.

DCI does many things right. But as a consumer, one can only be sympathetic to staffing levels for so long...

Especially for the FN. I would suspect the main point of contact for most DCI fans is the FN. Unless you are in a region with many shows, most fans probably go to 0, 1, or 2 shows per year, plus the occasional regional or national championship.

  4. People like Brasso will never be satisfied; always looking for victims where there are none. I haven't heard of any examples of qualified women who got passed over. For whatever reason these roles have attracted more men than women. The positions referred to also have very very low turnover and represent marchers from the 70s era of the activity which was male dominated. Today the corps are more gender neutral and soon the leadership will reflect that. No covert racism here. DCI has enough challenges to deal with.

  5. Rhetorical question:

Do you judges actually go through this mental mast**bation every time you watch a show?

How do you judge a show but on a basis if percentage of achievement based on the guidelines for the box and the corps attainment of those standards?

So, judges are actually math whizzes first?

You guys sound like the subject of Crown's show, and you're really confusing me.

I get the math, I just didn't realize the extent of the pre-slotting structure in your head as you watch the show.

I agree some on here really over-analyze. But let's look at the most talked about caption going into Saturday night - percussion.

    Our top 4 performs:

    SCV 19.5

    Cadets 19.8

    Blue Devils 19.6

Something's wrong with this picture. Crown is up next and you are telling them they have to beat both Devils and SCV, or fall behind both. It is impossible for them to be in between.

Well, impossible unless our percussion judge knew beforehand Crown would not crack the top 3. Isn't it to be an open slate, if not for corps 1-12 then at least the medalist contenders?

  6. No.. I did not call Acheson a " sexist ". Its not even worth a reply. I think that concluding this from my remarks here would be Shadowtron just going off the deep end in this thread, thats all.

Post after post claiming "DCI" is sexist without any evidence. What exactly is DCI? It's a very small organization over there in Indy. Who at DCI headquarters is sexist? If not them, which member corps?

It feels good to throw out accusations, but you need to be able to back them up.

  7. wow brasso going off the deep end in this thread. you calling Acheson sexist? or some of the corps? name me a DCI corps that is sexist.

I do think it's weird in 2013 that Cavies and Scouts are all-male, and it will hurt their talent level in a declining activity to cut off 50% of potential members. But that is my personal preference, you can't force a private org to do that.
