  1. the more people, especially young people, they can get into the horn line the more people that will get to spend their summer learning and getting better from instructors who have taught and/or marched at cadets. they also have to balance out the corps and can't march 12 front ensemble, 10 snares, 5 basses, 5 quads, and a cymbal line against 40 horns...

corps can teach people how to be better players. and as my band director would say "give me work ethic over talent"...

  2. We are wearing the all maroon uniform. Since it is not the "traditional" uniform it can be assumed that C2 will always be in either the cream or maroon uniforms from 2011. And since Cadets will be using the cream uniform, we get the maroon this year. The horn line WILL be using all 56 horns. We are only a few short of that number with a few new faces slated to be at the camp this weekend. Come check us out this Sunday if you are in the area, South Mountain Middle School, Allentown, PA.

Brass positions still open for those who wish to make history

From the vibe of the members and staff at the end of ensemble rehearsal on Sunday, the Cadets2 organization has crossed another significant milestone in their history as the countdown to their ‘launch’ continues.

    ...

A weekend filled with over twenty hours of rehearsal blocks, colorguard auditions, a session with section leaders of the 2012 Cadets as well as an official visit from DCA representatives on the stability of the organization capped yet another busy and productive weekend.

    Cadets Organizations Develop Strong Member-Leaders

Being a drum major or a section leader in The Cadets comes with a tremendous amount of responsibility in a model that has been developed over years and years, and now the tradition extends to Cadets2.

It is with great enthusiasm that the Cadets2 organization recognizes the first-ever leaders for the 2012 inaugural season for the corps.

The Drum Majors for the Cadets2 inaugural season will be... Continue Reading

  5. Eastchester, NY. One word...like Bluecoats.

IMO, if YEA brings these kids in as part of the camp, then they should caution them on etiquette before they break from their camp classes. It's as much YEA's responsibility as the kids'.

    Garry in Vegas

YEA! does not bring these kids to the show. West Chester is host to a marching band leadership workshop for mostly drum majors during the week and part of their fees to attend camp go towards watching the show. The camp was run by George Parks but I am no longer sure who is running the camp since he passed away last fall.

  6. It's hard to go from 16th to top 12, despite the big jumps in placement you have seen from Madison.

Crossmen were two shows, Quarters/Semis, away from going 16th to 12th in 2008... we were placed 12th at every regional that year and finished 13th. And we were still playing the guidry Cirque stuff arranged for brass... the only thing that kept us in it was the challenge Darryl Pemberton gave us in terms of a visual show. This year they have an awesome brass book. I havent seen the show, only heard it through recordings so I hope they gave them enough of a challenge visually to compete with those around them because as it was mentioned in another thread about the top spots, its the visual that is going to push you past those around you.

  7. As far as money goes, the corps generally have a timeline as far as how much you get back based off on circumstances and time of departure. I started marching Cadets last year, my ageout, until I got hurt the last day of spring training. I got about 2/3 of the fees I had already finished paying back. If someone just decided one morning to up an quit at the same point in the summer, they wouldn't have gotten much back at all.

  8. We all remember the cadets hashmarks incident when George delayed the performance because he wanted the hasmarks re-painted. If you don't know what happened someone can explain it better that I can. Anyway... I was watching Semis in the movie theatre when it happened. Everyone in the theatre was flipping out and booing the screen. I personally couldn't believe what was going on. Then there was this one guy in front of me who started cursing out George Hopkins and cadets. He was saying how George brainwashes the kids and that he's ruining drum corps (same old stuff right?!) Then he started saying "HEY! Everyone! Give George Hopkins A call and Tell him exactly what an ### he is!" Then he starts calling out George's phone number in the movie theatre! A few seconds later I hear him leaving a long VERY bad message on Hop's answering machine! THis guy went completely insane! I have to say it was a very interesing situation!

sounds like this guy is trying to brainwash the audience members by telling them what to think about george hopkins...

i never understood the problems with the "hashmark incident" - if any other director would have said something everyone would have been like "that makes sense, every corps deserves a fair playing field" but since it was george we might as well have had another ice age right then and there cause the world came to an end... as i performer it sucks not have hash marks as a check point.. if you can see that one form ended up 2 steps too far forward of the hash and have to move backwards after that set, you know you have to compensate to make it back far enough. without those guides moving at the speed the cadets do people can get hurt really quickly (i dont see any other corps do swinging gate type moves into 1 step interval company fronts at 200 bpms) but if there is nothing to go off of...

  9. if you start adding more corps, the entire setup of the show would have to be scratched...

if you add even just one more corps, that makes 8 performances and 4 corps presenting in the middle.

it was probably just those 3 because YEA! is smart enough to realize that fans are always talking about how corps A doesn't see corps B until the SA regional. the other 3 corps from the top six last year are BD, SCV, and bluecoats. BD and SCV have a show 2 days later in Cali. and bluecoats are staying in spring training for a couple more days I guess because their first show is the monday afterwards. they at least get 3 of the top 6 at one time.

if i wasn't marching, this show would jump out at me for shows to see because of seeing 3 corps that are always neck in neck the entire season.

there are only super corps because they have a staff that can work the crowds and/or judges with their shows and work their tails off

Really, those of us still marching decide which corps are the "super corps"
