I had the same issue. I even paid another 49 coins of the realm to get this past weekend. I thought maybe just maybe it was a IP deal because I'm traveling in the INTERNATIONAL side of DCI. but I have a IP proxy and that is not the issue.

anyWho - I'm contacting my card and will declare FRAUD on them and they can decide what they want to do. I want a refund and I'm not willing to just let it go.

OOPS I sure hope I have not hurt someone's feelings or my avatar is not threatening politically and all. :united:

Good luck with at refund. Several of us got screwed last year - I don't think anyone got a refund.

Working around the house and setting up laptop and tv for DCA show tonight. In the meantime logged on and waiting for DCI show to start. Started corps 1974 and didn't follow about 1992 to 2002 due to real life. Got back to following DCA but haven't really watched DCI since then. I have followed the changes via DCP but first time to actually see those changes in action. And yes I will try to keep an open mind lol.

    Any thoughts????

Many of these productions don't translate or communicate well to the audience. It is unfortunate that the activity has become monkey see monkey do. Very few come up with a creative, original idea. My heart goes out to marching members - they're only a reflection of what was put in front of and/or on them. Truth be told, if I never see some of these productions again this season, I won't feel like I missed anything.

For me it's about the music and marching and the quality of performance. I miss the high velocity intricate marching drills which are now replaced with jumping, hopping, skipping, running, posing, twirling, laying down, ballet, dancing, and now gymnastic tumbling, not to mention the pushing, pulling, dragging, lifting, climbing, standing and riding of props. Only a few corps have the prop thingie down - most props are horribly made and grossly underutilzed.

My polite applause at the end of a performance is not always for the production but instead for the marching members trying to do the best with what they were given, and a reason to stretch my legs.

Well said. Pretty much exactly how I feel. Not even wasting $$ to watch online anymore.

Yes it is. Katy high school usually wins the 6A football state championship every other year. Think of them as the Blue Devils of high school football

The Berry Center in Cypress was pretty nice. I went there twice. It always used to be held at Rice University stadium. For such an expensive school that place is a turd. I saw my first live DCI show in 20 years there in 2005. The Madison Scouts won - Carmen Project. They haven't done that well since unfortunately.

Madison must make a leadership change the day after DCI finals. Swift & decisive. As a person who has held executive sales management & leadership positions for 25+ years, I can say with certainty that one of the biggest mistakes an organization can make is to not terminate the employment of a failing under-performing employee. The ability to make the tough decisions is what differentiates good leaders from bad leaders. This current Scout regime is a complete failure & doesn't deserve to return.

At this point they can make the call immediately after semi's.

When you are on a very limited budget like I am with an entire life of drum corps missing half of a show because they are being tightwads with their band width is something to complain about. Also a thread for people who also are experiencing the same to trade ideas. I’m sorry are you lost or something or you just want to be a Richard?

    Move along

Dear Scout Management.  I’m heartbroken.  I no longer recognize the Madison Scouts that I have been in awe of since the first time seeing the corps in 1972.  I’ve donated annually because I wanted to support that fantastic organization.  I then do another donation to the corps that entertained me the most during the year.  I’m in the tough position of whether I just do the second donation, because I don’t know who the current Scouts are.

If modern day corps experience includes learning leadership skills you can offer an exceptional lesson to your members.  Sometimes providing leadership means admitting to those that report to you that a poor decision was made and you accept responsibility.

Now give the MMs the opportunity to help figure out how to fix the problem.  Ask their opinions on what can be modified within the parameters you have to work with (time, money, people, etc).  Allow each section to nominate a certain number of MMs from their section to participate in the discussions/actions.  They may not point fingers at other sections but may offer suggestions related to their own section or the overall design of the show.  Listen to what they have to say and allow them to participate in the “fix” – because there definitely is a problem.  You don’t have to feel like you are giving up control, you are providing a significant teaching moment.  Not everyone gets their way, and that includes you.

What do you have to lose?  It doesn’t look like the show is on the right trajectory now. And, unless there is already a firm decision to go co-ed next year you need to do something to renew the cache of being a Madison Scout to attract future members.  And if you do go co-ed the Madison Scouts will no longer exist – it will be a brand new corps.

My “outside the box” two cents worth before I go back to lurking mode.

I’ve watched the show a few times on  you-tube, so my comments are solely based on what I saw and heard there.

Change the underlying theme of the show from the workings of the heart and soul to re-finding your heart and soul.  Allow your female MM to be the one that leads the corps back to their heart and soul.  It was hard to tell where she was on the field.  Get her into something that is more visible.  At some point she should be in white with a red sash.

Music doesn’t seem to be a problem, except you need to expand the music to replace the awful narration at the beginning of the program.  Could you work in a soft version of Memories?  Or modify the narration … “Sometimes in the course of trying to explore a new identity it is possible to lose your heart and soul.  Join us on our journey to finding ourselves again.”

Some of the one-off comments like “Dr. Ellis(?) call me” to “(Founding member) call me” could work.

If I was seeing correctly, MMs were going through a door in the heart periodically.  When they come back through the door have them in something that resembles a traditional Madison uniform.  That MM has found the Scouts heart and soul, etc.  By the end try to have as many MMs in something “traditional” as possible – even if it is a Scouts t-shirt.

The heart – OMG – please make it go away, except you need it for my idea in the previous paragraph.  OK, have a few members come out in Blue Star Bob the Builder uniforms and “paint” the heart by throwing tarps over it.  And there needs to be one huge tarp with a fleur-de-lis on it.  Accomplishes including the corps symbol and makes me laugh.

Don't lay down on the field - Scouts don't lay down to anybody.

For next year, explore a little but don’t stray too far from your identity.  And I’m still waiting for a Rat Pack show (hint, hint.)

I feel exactly the same about the direction the Scouts are headed. Having said that - I will not stop donating because as ridiculous as they look the kids in the corps are still getting the life lessons prior Scouts have. I may never watch another DCI show but Madison gets my donation every year as long as they stay on the field.

I never have any issues streaming other content and I do so almost daily. I had as many issues streaming in a whole season when DCI handled it than I do in one showing with blo. I will try a direct line in but that is what they had at Concord Pavilion for Finals and it froze 6 times so I do not buy the gaslighting of "it's your equipment" in this day and age there should be no issues.
