  1. Well this didn't happen Saturday night but at semifinals for IW one of the Aimachi boys' batons hit the ceiling scoreboard and flew to the front of the floor.

Saturday evening during Aimachi's performance was the first time in a long while that I remember people jumping up out of their seats clapping DURING the show.

We can't forget the music mysteriously stopping during First Flight's performance. And the crowd cheering them on in support.

This was definitely was the year of the backbend catch.

The partner work in Onyx when the girl gets horizontally rolled/flipped in the air right at the beginning. WOW!!!

The moment when Tin Man hands over his heart at the end of Zydeco!

When asked "is the guard ready?" the girl from Carmel simply says "yes" into her microphone.

  2. I did notice at retreat they(Onyx) were standing with arms folded and had rude smirks on their faces. I was not a fan of their show in the least BUT I have to mention that the petite dancer with the red hair was unbelievable and gorgeous! She moved in some amazing ways.

  3. I loved the pre show stuff some teams maybe went over board a little but all in all I love it.

I don't mind the pre-show stuff as long as you can tell it's PRE SHOW. When Opus 10 started I was super confused and thought I missed the "you may now take the floor in finals competition". Everyone was looking around like doofuses(is that a word?LOL) wondering if the show had started.

As far as the lighting and special effects...I LOVE them when used sparingly. The last thing we need is focus being taken off of the essential elements of color guard.

  4. So the answer is no there is no way to get any videos for free? I really don't have much money right now and would rather not pay if it isn't necessary.,

It's necessary! Share it with friends. Have them come over for a color guard party and charge $5 a person! Like a pay per view. None of us would be paying if it the material was available for free!

  5. Tell meh what you think!

I definataly think Braddock is coming in 1st this year

I am thinking it will be SCV with the gold. And I am pulling for Zydeco to be a high as possible. They are THE MOST entertaining group this year. The crowd is going to go WILD for them! :w00t:

  6. Don't you have to pay though to see the shows? I want to see them for free

The WGI Fan network is $39.00 and WELL worth every penny. They have archives of championships all the way back to the 70's. Attach your laptop to a tv with an HDmi cable and enjoy it on a large screen. They have performances from regionals from this year(2011) so you can sample all of your favorite groups before WGI.

  7. I read this and totally wrote it off as hype more than anything else (sorry). That said, I talked to some people who were at MEPA champs this weekend whose opinions I really trust and they said the Burg has made some massive changes since the southeastern regional. I said enough to get them in finals? and they said possibly...but it's definitely going to help them get a lot closer. I was wondering how in the world they popped an 83.5, but I guess the revisions, re-writes etc. is exactly what was in order. I look forward to seeing how they perform this week and checking out the newly added changes. I hear there's been some GE stuff worked in too! I guess the old adage it true, you can never count out the burg.

Yes I would have chalked it up to hype too if I hadn't been there. They are really fighting for it. I am pulling for them.

  8. WOW.....did anyone else attend the MEPA Pre-Lims today? Personally I was very impressed with the talent in all groups today. Franklin High Schools A guard has really stepped up their game and what a great show they are giving the fans this year!

Juxtaposition show while enjoyable doesn't seem to have the same momentum and thrill they have shown us in the past. Question is.....how will they bring it all together for WGI Championships next week? Could be interesting to see.

Nice to see Miamisburg representing again this year in all age groups. The talent in the Burg starts at such a young age. I find it amazing that little kids can spin flags and weapons with such grace. Timing was perfect for their Sweethearts group and they truly never miss a beat. The Junior's program while soft and a little slower paced from previous years proved to be solid with a nice flag feature to seal the deal!

And what about the Miamisburg World Guard? Did anyone catch their show today? Certainly not the same show seen a few weeks ago. Something has changed but I can't put my finger on it. The girls are performing like in years past and their talent proves once again that the Burg is taking back what is theirs! It appeared there have been many changes in their show with a unique spin on MORSE CODE playing in the background while the rifles are spinning to the silence. There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the World Guard this year with a new Director taking the helm. If this momentum continues I can see them making it to WGI finals and personally they deserve it! Whatever happened to bring these changes to the floor, I suspect those girls will walk the tunnel again this year at UD all 3 days for the Championships next week.

Couldn't agree more about Miamisburg at MEPA. They are pulling out all the stops and giving it everything they've got to make finals a WGI. They looked so confident with the changes they've made....like they've got their mojo back.

  9. If you don't have anything nice to say...post it annonomously on the internet! :w00t: LOL I have to say that I do not care for Onyx this year or last. I am a equal opportunity color guard lover. I have many favorite shows that vary in type every year and I think Onyx is taking the sport of the arts in the wrong direction. Sorry Mike no direct offense intended...I just can't see the point of your show. I guess that makes me one of the people that doesn't understand art. I can't get over the fact that at almost NO time during the show is there anything being performed by more than a couple members. It all seems so random. I will say that Mike is a genious in that fact that OF COURSE the judges are going to reward the show because they don't want to admit that they just don't get it!

  10. So I am new to these WGI shows - but what is the deal on buying concessions and then not being able to take the snacks to your seat?

At the March 5-6 Kettering/Dayton Regional show, food and drink were not allowed inside the arena. Though I did see judges with drinks and sandwiches, why weren't we common folk allowed to take in food?

Did something happen at an event to put this silly policy into place? Did a Zydeco Bad Guy slip on a nacho? Did a groovy Avon performer fall on a slice of Domino's?

I'm sure it has to do with the amount of custodians they are willing to pay for the weekend. If no food goes into the arena then there's less to clean. It's like that at most shows. It is very annoying though. The price we pay to get in unfortunately goes to WGI and not the host school so they cut costs anywhere they can. I smuggled a hot dog in my purse and had to eat it discretely while that Nazi guy was patrolling for food and people with the wrong colored wristband on the front side. That dude took his job SERIOUSLY!

  11. No you don't take more because SW guards are having a good year, it just becomes more competitive to get into finals.

    Good Luck to all.

Was just trying to get more for the money at WGI. Can never get enough of excellent color guards!

  12. Scholastic World is always super competitive....more so than any other class. The guards in this class are in this class for a reason. They are the most talented and have the best design teams in the business. Many of the guards in this class have been consistent finalists for over 25 years.

Scholastic World also always seems to have a surprise every year.....just because you are ranked out of finals in March does not mean anything at this point of the game. Guards like Kennesaw Mountain a few years ago were so far out of finals that no one thought twice about them....and then in Dayton they were in the upper half of finals.

I think if the trend continues they will have to take 20 finalists at WGI since there are more and more SW guards reaching such exquisiteness!! Lets take a vote!

  13. Northview came from Brazil, IN...lol.

And they've been a SW class finalist since the late 80s. No surprise to see such a strong showing from a unit of their calibre.

I too was pleasantly surprised by Northview. They are ALWAYS good but this year they have risen to GREATNESS! Way to go NV!! Looking very sophisticated!

  14. Wow...great talent this past Dayton Regional...however, it leads me to wonder if Miamisburg World Gaurd may not make it into finals for WGI in April? It would be their first time not in finals since 1984 or 1985, I believe. Any other thoughts on this?

That would be a travesty! I am pulling for the elders of the color guard world to take back the lead. Lots of groups can bring a fresh perspective to color guard for a while but they tend to fade away. The one that comes to mind is Bishop Kearney. Are they still around? Groups that have been around for 30 years or so go thru lots of ups and downs. NO group can sustain THAT long without some lean years. Lots of groups are having staff issues, economy challenges and recruiting trouble. I noticed numbers are down in Center Grove and Miamisburg for sure. I know people in the Miamisburg organization and believe me... they will continue what they love as long as they can!

P.S. They better make it to WGI finals since I already have my tickets! :satisfied:

  15. Just because a program is ranking and scoring where it is does not mean the judges "like it." Judges are simply applying the criteria reference to what they are seeing on the floor and ranking and rating it accordlingly. Liking or not liking it has nothing to do with judging it. At least in theory it shouldn't.

I would love to believe that is the case.

  16. May I ask, by ensemble do you really mean "unison"? ensemble is not the same as unison if using the word as stated on the judge sheet criteria.

You are probably correct...I'm an old lady and not up with the jargon. Thanks! I just like to see lots of performers doing the same work....to me it is much more difficult and also more appealing to the eye BUT like I said I am old school and have only been a spectator for about 20 years. I performed back in the 80's when things were a lot different.

  17. The scores do seem really low for this point in the season.

I really hate to hear that members from any group would show unsportsman-like behavior. BUT they are high school kids ...Maybe years of color guard will teach them some grace.

  18. It's one of my favs too!

Cosmic Love by Florence + The Machine

Wouldn't that be nice if the groups would print the name of their music on the lower left hand corner of their tarp just like they do on MTV. :)
