  1. OMG that Opus 10 Shimmy WAS GREAT!!! It will be memorable for sure. Kinda like last year when Marion Catholic did the neck bobble head thingy!
  2. Well this didn't happen Saturday night but at semifinals for IW one of the Aimachi boys' batons hit the ceiling scoreboard and flew to the front of the floor. Saturday evening during Aimachi's performance was the first time in a long while that I remember people jumping up out of their seats clapping DURING the show. We can't forget the music mysteriously stopping during First Flight's performance. And the crowd cheering them on in support. This was definitely was the year of the backbend catch. The partner work in Onyx when the girl gets horizontally rolled/flipped in the air right at the beginning. WOW!!! The moment when Tin Man hands over his heart at the end of Zydeco! When asked "is the guard ready?" the girl from Carmel simply says "yes" into her microphone.
  3. I was there and I don't think Tate was in 1st after prelims in 88. I am pretty sure the top three standings remained the same from prelims to finals that year. 1.union 2.miamisburg 3.tate
  4. I watched the Northmont show. Yep you are right...I had totally forgotten about it. It's awesome.
  5. The one I think you want is Heritage Independent from this past season-2011.
  6. The music is Bobby McFerrin and it's called Spain.
  7. I did notice at retreat they(Onyx) were standing with arms folded and had rude smirks on their faces. I was not a fan of their show in the least BUT I have to mention that the petite dancer with the red hair was unbelievable and gorgeous! She moved in some amazing ways.
  8. I don't mind the pre-show stuff as long as you can tell it's PRE SHOW. When Opus 10 started I was super confused and thought I missed the "you may now take the floor in finals competition". Everyone was looking around like doofuses(is that a word?LOL) wondering if the show had started. As far as the lighting and special effects...I LOVE them when used sparingly. The last thing we need is focus being taken off of the essential elements of color guard.
  9. That post makes me think of how bad it bothers me when the announcer says " is the guard ready " and people in the audience say "they're always ready" OHHHHH that bugs the crap out of me!
  10. It's necessary! Share it with friends. Have them come over for a color guard party and charge $5 a person! Like a pay per view. None of us would be paying if it the material was available for free!
  11. I am thinking it will be SCV with the gold. And I am pulling for Zydeco to be a high as possible. They are THE MOST entertaining group this year. The crowd is going to go WILD for them!
  12. The WGI Fan network is $39.00 and WELL worth every penny. They have archives of championships all the way back to the 70's. Attach your laptop to a tv with an HDmi cable and enjoy it on a large screen. They have performances from regionals from this year(2011) so you can sample all of your favorite groups before WGI.
  13. Yes I would have chalked it up to hype too if I hadn't been there. They are really fighting for it. I am pulling for them.
  14. Couldn't agree more about Miamisburg at MEPA. They are pulling out all the stops and giving it everything they've got to make finals a WGI. They looked so confident with the changes they've made....like they've got their mojo back.
  15. If you don't have anything nice to say...post it annonomously on the internet! LOL I have to say that I do not care for Onyx this year or last. I am a equal opportunity color guard lover. I have many favorite shows that vary in type every year and I think Onyx is taking the sport of the arts in the wrong direction. Sorry Mike no direct offense intended...I just can't see the point of your show. I guess that makes me one of the people that doesn't understand art. I can't get over the fact that at almost NO time during the show is there anything being performed by more than a couple members. It all seems so random. I will say that Mike is a genious in that fact that OF COURSE the judges are going to reward the show because they don't want to admit that they just don't get it!
  16. Funny that you mention doughnuts....they did have them at the concession stand that day! I saw lots of kids with a glaze beard! LOL
  17. I'm sure it has to do with the amount of custodians they are willing to pay for the weekend. If no food goes into the arena then there's less to clean. It's like that at most shows. It is very annoying though. The price we pay to get in unfortunately goes to WGI and not the host school so they cut costs anywhere they can. I smuggled a hot dog in my purse and had to eat it discretely while that Nazi guy was patrolling for food and people with the wrong colored wristband on the front side. That dude took his job SERIOUSLY!
  18. Was just trying to get more for the money at WGI. Can never get enough of excellent color guards!
  19. I think if the trend continues they will have to take 20 finalists at WGI since there are more and more SW guards reaching such exquisiteness!! Lets take a vote!
  20. I too was pleasantly surprised by Northview. They are ALWAYS good but this year they have risen to GREATNESS! Way to go NV!! Looking very sophisticated!
  21. That would be a travesty! I am pulling for the elders of the color guard world to take back the lead. Lots of groups can bring a fresh perspective to color guard for a while but they tend to fade away. The one that comes to mind is Bishop Kearney. Are they still around? Groups that have been around for 30 years or so go thru lots of ups and downs. NO group can sustain THAT long without some lean years. Lots of groups are having staff issues, economy challenges and recruiting trouble. I noticed numbers are down in Center Grove and Miamisburg for sure. I know people in the Miamisburg organization and believe me... they will continue what they love as long as they can! P.S. They better make it to WGI finals since I already have my tickets!
  22. I would love to believe that is the case.
  23. You are probably correct...I'm an old lady and not up with the jargon. Thanks! I just like to see lots of performers doing the same work....to me it is much more difficult and also more appealing to the eye BUT like I said I am old school and have only been a spectator for about 20 years. I performed back in the 80's when things were a lot different.
  24. The scores do seem really low for this point in the season. I really hate to hear that members from any group would show unsportsman-like behavior. BUT they are high school kids ...Maybe years of color guard will teach them some grace.
  25. Wouldn't that be nice if the groups would print the name of their music on the lower left hand corner of their tarp just like they do on MTV. :)
