  1. With the low number of championship registrations this year, what does this mean for the prelim / semis / finals format? Like will they take everyone into finals in Scholastic World if they are at 15 units or less? Will there be a prelims / semis / finals format for the World and Open classes if the entries stay around the current number? I know this used to be determined by the amount of units in each class.

Has anyone heard about guards such as James Logan HS, Mission Viejo HS, Seminole HS, Rancho Bernardo, or Americas HS? Those groups all competed in Sch World last year but aren't registered. I know Avon is not doing anything WGI related. Is NorthEast Ind planning on coming back out?

I know for a fact that due to staff changes rancho Bernardo will be competing in Independent Open.. not sure whether they will be heading to WGI, it all comes down to money!

  2. Thanks SO much...you don't know how long I've been trying to figure that out! Now, I just need to find a video. One of the most ingenious SA shows I've seen.

This music Patriots used in 1998 was Heroes Symphony by Philip Glass. you can hear it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66jTYrEjs3A

It has to be one of the best IO shows ever, IMO they would have also been in the top 10 in IW that year had they gotten bumped. Yes, they did have foam mannequin heads that rolled down a shingled roof. I was lucky enough to see this show multiple times in '98. I remember seeing them at the Dayton regional, and at the end of the show the guard starts to rearrange parts of their floor (throwing papers, rolling mannequin heads, pull the tarp in different directions) and at the very end, a girl in the guard pulls a drawer out from a chest that's been on the floor and used as one of their props and she flips it upright so the audience can see inside it, and inside the drawer is an exact replica of how their floor (with the props and chaos they caused at the end etc.) IT WAS AMAZING! I'm pretty show their show was entitled "Life is but a Dream"

God, I miss the Patriots...and shows like that!

AHH I am dying to see this show.. i wish someone would upload it to youtube, or WGI would put sell that years shows as DVDs!!!!!

  3. well, assisting means that Jill & Robby wont have complete creative control, and Id prefer to see what they would do on their own, rather than having to help someone with their idea.

    Just prefer NEI over Premo..

I will miss you yet again NEI!!!!! :worthy: :worthy: :worthy:

  4. From what I hear:

Sadly NEI is not coming back this year but the NEI staff (Jill and Robby) will still be teaching at Premonition Winterguard in South FL.

    OH BOOO!

this is not good news..!!!

I was not a fan of premo last season..

I want Jill and Robby back at NEI.. lol

  5. Sorry if I'm taking you too seriously, but that's a silly thing to argue. What makes a color guard the "best"? Their talent? Skill? Passion? If anything, we should be discussing the designers and choreographers who instruct these individuals on what to do. And comparing the two activities, even with all their overlaps, is apples to oranges.

their staff! well that is probably 75% of it!

  6. I'd have to disagree... I think instructors should leave that stuff to those who know what they're doing. They should have their soundtrack "professionally" finished by the time they are ready to begin show design so they can begin design around a logical, well-edited soundtrack.

not all units are in the position to hire professionals. lol and even those who do hire professionals do have some horrible soundtracks!

  7. So happy to see a comment hinting at the poor soundtrack design I've heard lately. Nothing kills a program more than poorly cut and arranged music!

well it doesnt help that people want complicate soundtracks by adding anything and everything including the kitchen sink LOL

Guard instructors need to learn to edit themselves!

  8. Being in many WGI and other groups meetings over the years I will try to explain some views on the subject you brought up. Not that I personally believe it's fair or that I personally agree but here I go at a stab at this.

"elitist" groups have always been a part of our activity WGI DCI DCA. All of them. People don't like to hear that, especially if they aren't considered part of the "elitist" groups but its there and always has been. Hell WGI usues that word constantly and promotes the "elitist".

As one moves into the "elitist" status , many believe that should come with privalages above others. Look at proposal Mr Nelson proposed as far as dollars or fees.In fact look at many of the proposals from many people. A select few usually get rules changes in that benefit a few ( # of WC members increse, proposed by a certain few mostly to benefit themselves) with that said WC shows are also designed mainly for a big arena setting ( as well as other classes ) but again comes the privlaged.

As far as new rules on lighting etc etc. The thought process on that is that A guards should be focusing on training and not theatrics, Some A designers , design thinking they are doing a world guard only to not succeed and then wonder why.

Bottom line A guards , mainly High School , support this activity far more than independents, thats for sure but does WGI respect them as much ? hmmmmmmm well, I have my own thoughts , you can form your own.

arent most these rules that seem geared to only world class also due to the perception that World Class is what makes the most money.. You see it regionals, home shows and at WGI. The audience is scarce at times, but as the evening progresses or a World class semis, or prelims happens the crowds come out.

I personally would love to see the Open guard age limit increase. I have seen many guards have to fold or bump themselves into world when they aren't ready due to a bunch of age outs and not much new talent.

  9. Thanks, it actually does! Bear in mind I don't have to really understand a show to enjoy it, and I really really enjoyed your 2011 show. I can just take a new appreciation for this show now that I do understand it.

Very true.. I enjoyed it, some shows just need a little more explanation

  10. Oh i dont mind debats, i just remember what happened when someone asked what Onyx's show was about

ha ha ha yeah I dont think it will turn into one of those conversations b/c Juxta didnt medal! I just didnt understand the song with the theme.. I get the whole linear, line stuff, they did with drill and work. but seems like the music doesnt even go with the show.

am I the only one who feels that way!?????

  11. The more I watch World Prelims, the more I am saddened that Paramount didnt make finals. They were really good, had an entertaining show, great performance and very underrated!!!!

I would love to have their show on the DVD over others!!

Can't wait to see them next season.
