  1. THIS!

DCA may have missed an opportunity to be at the leading edge here. A few years ago, there was an historic high interest, from groups and performers, in the mini corps arena. Some effort should have been made to nurture and support the mca-type effort, on the part of DCA (corps, fans and administration) to explore and grow this part of the activity, beyond one contest a year, squeezed into I & E.

I realize, of course, that some (including the participants and a small fan base) did try to do so. But DCI is taking the real step forward, with a more keen eye to the future. Wish that DCA had done so. It might been stayed more in the area of brass and percussion there.

No disrespect to DCA but DCI is the right organization to make this happen between the two. They are better known, have a larger fan base, and are more "connected" to the younger audiences. DCA could have made an attempt but I dont think it would have generated as much excitement like it already has with DCI.

  2. This has the potential to GROW drum corps. There is a new market we are tapping into here. If DCI is going to be heavily involved in all of this, it could bring in new people through these videos/competitions.

I will not say anything negative about it until I see it.

I can see Blue Devils, Cadets, Empire Statesmen and SDCA/mini corps utilizing this BIG TIME.

How can growing music be a bad thing?

  3. Why not sell the current uniforms to help offset costs? I believe there is a Jr corps in Connecticut that is wearing a similar uniform. www.7thregiment.org.

Problem with that is that corps already has uniforms.

I dont think its wise to sell off your current uniform if you dont know for sure you will be able to afford the new ones. Look at Bucs... they bought new ones and THEN sold off the old ones to offset costs.

There may be a high school out there somewhere looking for new uniforms. The 7 on the uni doesnt even need to be a 7, it just looks like a cool accent so it is applicable to any school with black in their school colors. If Im not mistaken, the 7 is removable/interchangeable with a different color.

  4. It just seems that the whole "evil" gimmick has gone too far. I like to see it on the field, in warm ups, at retreat, etc... but once it starts to show in public press releases, its going too far.

Your image needs to stay with the performance, not with the administration. It always seems Renegades have to much emotion and personal opinion involved in what should be official, professional statements.

I love the corps, I love the attitude, I love the shows but when it comes to PR... there is work to be done.

I really hope to see the corps back at DCA asap. As a collective group, we miss the Gades already.

  5. Drum corps has become more "artsy" in my opinion. I think that is why we have lost fans over the years. Personally, I enjoy watching a show 3-4 times before I fully understand it and catch everything there is to see, but that might just be me. Dont get me wrong, I enjoy shows from the 80s and such too.

Drum corps has gotten too complex for some people. More shows like Scouts 2010 need to happen to get older fans back but these artsy/storyline shows need to keep happening to draw in younger fans since thats what they know.

  6. In light of the recent controversy over the Renegades uniforms fundraiser, we have prepared a brief introductory video, where we give you -- DCA fans and our competitors -- the choice concerning the fate of the Evil uniform and our evil plan. This should eliminate all chaos and confusion. There are two choices --

Watch the introductory video here, give us your vote.

    Every 7th vote counts.

Thank you for finally telling the truth.

  7. I've always found it interesting that color guards can change what they wear every year and no one says a word, but if the corps proper does, it's scandalous. Maybe it's time we started calling them what they are...costumes. They haven't been uniforms for years.

And production companies change costumes with every show.

So it's really not a big deal at all.

In DCI maybe. Not in DCA.

Guard outfits change sure, but thats all part of design these days. DCA still has uniforms.
