  1. Hopkins is saying the upcoming changes are designed to "pull at your heartstrings" - frankly that sounds like a sappy banner to me

I happen to think they need some balls to the wall drill added. And if they struggle to clean it by finals so be it.

The show moves too slow - slow sections are fine but they need more velocity to balance it out - even with the recent tempo changes

    1. They cranked the tempos yesterday ( BD has some tempos that are lethargic and hasn't hurt them).

    2. They haven't put any changes in yet and still only one corps all summer has beat them. (BD).

    3. They have been good with the changes SO FAR so I think they deserve the benefit of the doubt.

    4. They are still in contention for the gold until proven otherwise which is done one else winning finals in two weeks.

  2. and? the point was that Craiga was saying how tired he was of the negativity basically on Bac or the show...all I said was youve arrived when the negativity flies out and that whe you reach the top its worse..thats it BUT like usual Brasso takes a post and runs in 100 directions with it...but thats ok too. some need it

Absolutely. Read a few pages of the Cadets thread. You'd think they were forming swastikas on the field the visceral hate for them is unreal.

  3. Because they're clean. Whatever technique BD uses put them at an advantage.

It's a combination of MM talent, great technique and a show design that really minimizes exposure. I love the part where the brass are kneeling and then they all get up at different times. Why clean 80 brass getting up simultaneously when you can stagger it AND get effect credit for being so innovative. I agree they should be first now but the judges really give them the benefit of any doubt.

  4. Cadets better get busy or next weekend they'll be in third and the weekend after in fourth or fifth

Trends don't lie, and right now the trends in the recaps aren't looking positive

I certainly hope they have a lot more planned than some feel good finish with big presidential panels and the corps laying down in the middle of the field...

Because IMO that won't keep them ahead of Crown, or Coats as they both clean up - and certainly won't close the gap with BD

Bluecoats put in their new ending. Crown made major changes already. Cadets are going to put their changes in this week and they are still seeded for second so I would have a bit more faith in the Cadets. I think they have been very methodical in everything they've done this season. People may not like the show but it is well constructed and performed. One of my "favorite" shows in the past 10 years has been Crown's RACH STAR which wound up .2 from fifth place so stop mixing up popularity contest with drumcorps contests.
  5. wow you guys are defensive...

I just hope (and frankly think) they'll go in a different direction next year - this year got away from them a little bit

isn't the first time this has happened - a lot of the same folks had this issue in Cadets 91 and Cadets 2006, again with incredible membership talent both of those years... Just like Crown this year

Crown looked great last night - they are my dark horse for second and I really think can/very well likely will take Cadets out

Cadets know they need to address GE now and will. They are solid in all captions. They are making the adjustments just like Crown has so reserve your judgement on a Cadets being overcome by Crown until all the changes are in.

  6. Cadets are well aware that they need to add energy and emotion to the show. They have changes ready ready and 3 days at the same facility to add them to the show and continue to clean. GE scores can change quickly. BD is running on all cylinders now. Let's see what goes on in two weeks.

  7. Can someone explain this to me:

Why is Simple Gifts at the end so... quiet? I can barely hear it. Is it the way it's written? Or is it because they're super spread out on the field? I can't help but compare this closer to SCV 09 and it's disappointing.

    They're changing it.
  8. hey chaddyt

i'm back :) had a great workout. thought a lot about the Cadets and why I dislike what they do. First let me say, I've always admired the corps for it's impeccable execution of their shows. they play well, they drum well, they march incredibly well. but what bugs me, and I guess I do react more than I should, but I really don't like the way GH chooses to take advantage of easily provoked emotions, and god knows drum corps fans' (myself included sometime) emotions are easily provoked. I just prefer the senses be teased into liking something rather than playing on one's emotions. And there is a difference.

They are a great drum corps that plays, marches, spins extremely well but I hate them because..........DCP is great.
  9. The Cadets have the changes ready and will be in next week. I think the timing is great because judges have seen all of these shows a million times so changes keep them and the members engaged. As far as audience appreciation, not sure what to tell you. People scream for Cavies regardless of the year and show and people acknowledge the Cadet's technical prowness will polite applause. Different types of show design. Lastly, I think the Cadets THIS SEASON, have been adding good changes (mostly musical), and I anticipate a strong visual ending as well.

  10. I think it's a combination of Copland fatigue and hammy/predictable design, which in ways go hand in hand. The comparisons to 09 crown and vanguard are totally valid considering there are nearly identical builds and moments going on. Maybe people don't like the narration not because it is lecture-like but because it's delivered with a hefty side of cheese and appears to be lip-synched, and the jazz is square.

There's also an unusual amount of false hype coming from Hop and the organization about changes and whatnot and now the tarps seem to be borderline tasteless. The sound bytes are really mundane and formulaic ("and now here's the stock market crash part"..."happy days are here again"..."a day that will live in infamy") and the whole production, while executed very well, feels so hackneyed even for Cadets.

Idk, it's a matter of taste. BD, for example, do the bizarro thing this year again and very well. If they were scoring under Cadets, people would be criticizing their lack of simultaneous marching and playing, or the weirdness some of the things they are doing. Cadets certainly need to finally crank some tempos, add some volume to brass impacts and put an effective ending in, but the show is interesting to me and the individual demand is enough to engage me.
