  1. Bluecoats are extremely good, but for me you can scrap the opener, it's like having a seizure or something. No melody, just random fastness and loud inyourfacenessforthesakeofitness. Love the rest of the show.

Have you seen the Blue Devils this year? You might change your mind on this one.

  2. Have yet to see the show, but I smell another 2007 coming. I'm sure the corps is incredibly talented -- in fact, I KNOW the corps is. But nobody gives a hoot about who wins in June (or even most of July for that matter). This is going to be one heck of a season.

You mean another season where they win Brass in Quarters and come into finals week in fourth place, and "magically" drop down in Brass score without any reason or rhyme as to why on the judge's tape? And they justified the placement by stating the performance as "flat" from the brass on the ESPN showing?

    Yeah I hope it's not another 2007.

  3. Hey all, with a few shows completed and ready for viewing on the web, I am a little bit saddened by the negative atmosphere... particularly with BD's show. I mean, I'm sure I've said some negative things on this forum before... but you know, gotta stop sometime, right? It seems that every BD thread that opens up, it transforms into a love/hate fest.

So I've decided to make a PRO BD 2010 thread!

I understand that people have their opinions but for those who perform and rehearse day in and day out, who probably read these threads, I say it's time to give them mad propz.

Thank you BD, and ALL corps for putting out such fantastic, entertaining, and diverse shows. Coming from a casual fan, it's truly an honor to witness your talents on and off the field.

On a personal note with BD's how this year, it is truly spectacular. The music is growing on me and the visuals have me sold already! The optical illusions that I witness with the mirrors are truly unique and catchy. Please continue doing what you do!

If you'd like to reply, please keep it positive and sincere.

Mods, if you feel that adding this thread is unnecessarily filling up the boards, feel free to close.

No negativity in this post, but I find it funny you're making a pro-corps thread when your username is NEUTRALvoice. Not hating, just thought that was funny.

  4. It's early yet, and there is the history of 2007 to provide a cautionary tale...but this is the first time in the last four years where all the elements are aligned and the corps is moving in a unified artistic direction. (These are my opinions only...) The players are responding to outstanding veteran leadership and the always top-notch staff instruction. This corps BELIEVES in each other, and the attitude is different: they are fully invested in the show, which plays to their strengths as musicians and allows for continual visual improvement. Incredibly clean for June, but they can grow. As i've mentioned in another thread, I'm trusting the show has enough growth potential to really let them keep their foot on the gas.

It's a marathon, not a sprint, though. True tests will come when they're head to head with DCP's anointed heavyweights: how the Bluecoats respond to the challenges of taking a punch...but more importantly, how they themselves punch and counterpunch.

All that being said, I believe in Six Words.

    To answer the main question:

This is the first time in as long as I can remember where the ENTIRE staff has been retained from one year to the next (in terms of caption heads). The drill writer was given more than two days notice this year (unlike last year), the brass staff is amazing (as always), the drum staff is working wonders, and the GUARD. The guard has quite stepped up their game this year. A pretty even split between vets and rookies, but they're all rocking their work and will continue to "get it". That being said, the kids are loving this momentum, so I don't think the spirit will be on shortage anytime soon.

    tl;dr - Expect big things.

  5. seemS Like the cOnTesT was scored faIr iN the judGes eyes

    GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME :)

I see what you did there.

But really though, Devils show: Not impressive (just my opinion)

These past few years it seems that they keep coming out with weird shows that aren't easily fan-accessible. Sorry, I've always been a "for the fans" guy, which goes against their "for the numbers" approach.

  6. So far, I'm liking the show, I wish the ending was a lot stronger, I would really like to see the Finale of Mahler 2 come in, or more of Danzon come back, since there's so much more of that piece that's been left out. But the only problems I have with this show as of now are that this show seems much safer visually, especially in comparison to last year. Last year, members were flying all over the field, and this year there's a few too many halts and slow segments for my taste.

And Danzon No. 2 is a Latin symphonic piece, and should be played as such. When Madison did it, they played it with the right kind of feel. I think that Crown needs to put some work into getting that style right, because right now, it's a little bit too white-bread for me....

Noticed some holes in their show from Normal. Are they still looking for that Lead Bari spot?

  7. I know, I know. "It's only one show/It's early season/The other corps could have been having an off night/blah blah blah..." but you have to give credit where credit is due. Tonight, winning the show and scoring within mere points of the top spot is a big deal for the corps.

This corps is working hard, has a great staff, great leadership, and will continue to own this very powerful show. BLOO!!!!

  8. I'm not bent out of shape at ALL over the scores. I just got a kick out of the fact that this poster had to work so feverishly to get the scores out to us, when it would have been so much easier for both him and us to have simply waited until he had clarity in the scores... then typed it in to us, given that it is a show nite when we've all pretty much agreed the scores and placements are absolutely meaningless.

Why the feverish rush here ?

Well good, because I'm not bent out of shape over Drum Corps at ALL. I just got a kick out of the fact that these corps work so feverishly to get the shows out to us, when it would have been so much easier for both them and us to have simply waited until August when they had clarity in the shows... then played it on the field, given that it is a show "nite" when we've all pretty much agreed the Corps and Fans are absolutely meaningless.

  9. I have seen and heard things about this show that blow my mind. The design is spot on, since they've had a drill designer that STAYS with them. The color guard looks great, the brass and drums are as rockin' as ever and I have no doubt they will turn some heads.

Feel free to share thoughts/comments/pictures/stories about how they melted your face with their sound.
