Why is one member of the Pioneers hornline wearing shorts?

I know that this is probably going to be a pretty unpopular opinion, but after watching the hi-cam vodeo of crown from last night a couple times, I think that those props are fine where they are at and set the stage really well, in fact. I know, they aren't used at all during the show, but sometimes its ok to have something there and not use it. Think of a play, there are often props through-out the program that are never used but yet are a key part in setting the scene and mood during the play. The same goes for drum corps. Just think about it.
I believe they are used to hold/hide additional guard equipment and horns...

I would guess for clarity and readability for the times when performers are on top of them. If you put a design on them it could clutter up what is actually happening on top. The color scheme of the show is generally pretty minimal in the uniforms and staging so they clearly intend for a bland color palette to let the colors that are used pop out.
Last year the rounds had the snake logo/design, and I thought they were one of the best props ever used because of the way they were integrated into the entirety of the show - not just something pulled around for the heck of it: this year's are as well, they just seem to be missing the pizzazz the rounds had.
Clearly the show is fantastic regardless ... it's gonna' be a fight to the end!!
We haven't had a nail-biter like this year in a long time... -
Why are the various "tops" of the props/platforms not decorated, with a pattern or changeable coverings... like the round props last year?
Maybe because of safety... although they moved around on top of last years props too...

There is a new video out there from 7-15 (high angle cam) and it shows a "curly Crown shape" at the end of the ballad.... google is your friend...
-
Did they add the "Crown" set at the end of the ballad .... or has it always been there (I've not seen a high angle video before today)...

Let's face it, Bluecoats' Session 44 could stand still and play for 11 minutes and be amazing. Adding in the giant chairs, used as different types of stages, is pretty cool. Quite similar to what BD has done over the last decade in many respects.
IMHO the Championship is Coats' to lose...

I feel like "nessie" is a liability as it is currently utilized...
Others use their props throughout the show and most have multiple members/groups/ensembles use them ... there is virtually no interaction by anyone but gaurd members with this prop and it just sits there until the final minutes of the show ... time will tell, of course; but IMHO there is a serious lack of integration into the whole program and it's really not clear (as of now) what exactly it is supposed to represent and why/what it symbolizes in the grand scheme of the show.- 1

Something in neon spandex, with a bedazzled backside, knotted fringe, asymmetrical sleeves, different colored shoes, one sequined glove, a transparent visor with umpteen 3-foot-long feathers as well as tribal make-up; I might even shave half my head...
Something traditional.- 4

I know it's early - but it sure seems like a waste to let that "rocking beast" just sit there through most of the entire show...

Anyone know why DCI is not doing the Field Pass podcast this year... at least not yet?
Usually by this time there has been a visit by Cesario to all the corps and we get a synopsis/rundown of all the shows... -
Great photos in uniform from the Beast... over on Crown's Facebook as well - I can't seem to get the link to work here...

Great start from the Crossmen this year!

Maybe PR should've kept the B+W stripe theme going with guard unis...

Hard to imagine they would do it a fourth time - with all of the potential available from the classical oeuvre that they have not used before...

I don't mind outside the norm at all. I think I was looking for them to be musically deconstructive more than they actually doing. I think a better title of the show would have been "Something Different."
Maybe next year the title could be "Something Different - Part Duh"

So yet another "new" ending... or are they slowly revealing the actual ending?
At least/last they got rid of that football helmet banner/tarp...
My guess is the MM grouping at the end with "Judy Jetson" on top will be a crown....
even if that is the case - the ending seems a bit lackluster... and the A-town crowd certainly didn't go wild. -
It is a shame the guard staff left ... if the guard was scoring as they have in years past Crown would (most likely) be on top overall...
especially since percussion scores are much higher this year than they have been lately...

Let's see...
White props (again) ... check.
Mirrors (again) ... check.
Props used as "closets" for uniform changes (again) ... check.
Groundbreaking.- 1

My feeling is the opposite. They are scoring high based on extremely strong captions but that will carry them to mid season. Once some of the neighbors start performing well, Crown will follow the fate of those recent monster Cadet corps that had flawed design. 2013, 2014, 2015.
This reminds me of OOTW... props that don't really serve a purpose except to be dragged out and used once... with minimal effect:
that rising platform with "Judy Jetson" on it doesn't really add a thing to the overall production... then it's just left there... same goes for the triangles with various percussion pieces on them, used for 45 seconds; once... then also abandoned... yes there are triangles on the guard, and the flipped lapel, and the flags but to what end?
We haven't seen the real ending (let's hope) so there is more to come... -
IMHO it will take a lot to get this all pulled together (if it is indeed supposed to) thematically...
They are scoring well early (in the categories that have been judged at the shows they've been to), and it will only get cleaner/tighter as time passes... -
Is there going to be a "pre-show/dance on" or are they just going to start cold...
I keep think there has to be something to tie all this together - and I know the real ending is yet to come... it just doesn't seem cohesive to me... -
When did they add that "lapel" to the uniform it has the triangles like the top of the guard costumes - and I guess the triangles of the kick drum platforms in the closer... ?
I just noticed it on a video from July 4 of the closer - I hadn't noticed them before... -
Here's a video of them coming onto the field and setting up from their Facebook...

Why is it that the "high cam" does not stay "high cam"...?"
