  1. Ok folks here is what we have.

    12 brass and percussion individuals.

    2 percussion ensembles.

    Marksmen Mini Corps

    In Exhibition:

    Melha Drum Corps

    The Missilemen Alumni Drum Corps

The Centurians Drum and Bugle Corps

    CT Alumni

    AND

    Capital Brass!

All that for just 10 bucks! Don't miss this one!

  2. Just a reminder that the BHOF Springfield that was postponed from Feb 9th is scheduled for April 6.

Location is the Melha Shrine Center, 133 Longhill St in Springfield MA.

Starting time is 1PM and walk ins will be accepted.

I will post the line up as soon as we get the new entries.

    Dan B

  3. I have just confirmed that The Missilemen Alumni from Winthrop MA will be appearing in Exhibition! :thumbup:/>

So, we now have Melha Drum Corps, Missilemen, Marksmen, Centurians, and CT Alumni to finish the show! What a line up!

Unfortunately, I have also recieved word that St Kevin's will not be able to come, :sad:/> so if anyone is interested in bringing a mini we welcome you!

We have recieved many individual entries but could always use more.

Come on, you know you want to!

    Dan

  4. If you haven't already, it sounds like you guys should try and set up a mini-reunion for the Targets, Olympians, Monarchs, Cavaliers and other corps from the Springfield/Pittsfield MA area (Red Knights?) ... could bolster the attendance and participation quite a bit ...

    :-)

We may try for a Western Mass Drum Corps Reunion in the future.

We have been recruiting from these corps, and currently have playing with Melha former Targets, Olympians, and Marksmen. Red Knights are sending members to compete in the individuals, :thumbup:/> And we will be getting extensive media coverage before the event. That should get the interest up throughout Western Mass!

And, for added interest our drum judge is a former Interstatesman!

    Dan

  5. Best of luck with your show, Dan. And don't forget, 2 weeks later, on February 23, is the Skyliners "Metropolitan Regional Championships" in Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey.

Hope to see lots of you readers there as well. Both affairs are great afternoons of drum corps fun and games, along with an adult beverage or two.

Everyone always has a wonderful time.

    Ray

Thanks Ray, and the same to you! I know that your show will get some entries from up here.

Adult beverages? In drum corps? YUP!

  6. Once again the Melha Shriners Drum Corps is proud to announce that we will be hosting the 3rd annual Buglers Hall of Fame Springfield Regional I&E and Mini Corps Show.

The show will be February 9 at the Melha Shrine Center 133 Longhill St Springfield MA and will start at 1PM.

Several units have already contacted me for sign up information so it looks as if this will our largest show to date.

As we confirm which corps/ensembles will be in attendance I will post them on this forum.

    So, SAVE THE DATE!

    Dan B.

  7. My 2 cents worth of why DCA does not get the attendance of DCI. Because, after all that what this is all about.

Most attendees of DCI events are:

1)People who marched DCI and still follow "their corps".

    2}Parents of the corps members.

DCA, for the most part has neither.

So, DCA can "follow" DCI with every change.

    OR

DCA can go in a different direction and LEAD.

If your fan base is smaller, why FOLLOW in an attempt to gain favor with DCI fans?

Lead with changes that will ATTRACT fans back to senior, {yes I said it!} corps.

Start small, like returning to pure formations on the field, or dare I say it?

    OFF THE LINE!

    Just my opinion!

  8. 2013 will be my LAST EVER DCA CHAMPIONSHIPS

It is obvious that DCA and DCI are GOING TO MERGE! This was told to me years ago by a DCI corps manager and I did not believe him! I DO NOW!

Amplification is for me the last straw!

I would also suggest that DCA save thier money and NOT do an Alumni spectacular as those of us who enjoy it will not be in attendance at finals weekend!

  9. Yea, I was thinking the same thing. If the aforementioned parade doesn't have competing DCA corps in it, there is no draw. And let's be honest, no competing corps is going to want to do a parade that weekend. As Jeff asked, "What's the draw?" about a parade. Even the parade DCI has run on finals day the last two years was more of an extra, and not designed to bring in fans who otherwise might not go.

And as much fun as alumni corps is for the performers and small but enthusiastic crowd that follows them is, it's not even close to what the competing corps put out. Alumni and mini corps are a nice diversion on DCA weekend. Neither are a major focus or draw, and likely never will be. If anything, alumni corps is going to experience a severe decline in popularity over the next few years. Minis, on the other hand, don't have the problems alumni corps face.

I hate to burst your bubble, BUT the alumni show IS a major draw for the weekend.

I have friends who come JUST for the alumni show as they are old school and prefer to see/hear the corps the way it WAS. We go to prelims and they join us but do not have a lot of enthusiasm for todays competing corps.

The noticable exception this year was Cadets 2 and Kidsgrove. Everyone liked them!

  10. Vince got the Event on the Local TV news...not the 6 & 11 type news, but the loops-every-15-minutes news. The drum corps....the drum corps...the drum corps..... constant.

the DCA Parade was another attempt at getting the word out. It worked in ICA, too.

A Pre-Labor Day parade with the corps is still a cool idea. Every newspaper would carry the announcement and the un-attached mini's (Freelancers, Orlando) and Alumni Corps could certainly haul the mail. How about a 1 mile parade to the Friday night festivities?

    (here come the tomatoes...Yikes!)

    Remember, POLICE DETAILS COST MONEY!

Even a 1 mile parade would cost thousands for police, ems, highway for street closer saw horses etc. This cost vs effect would probably kill a parade.

  11. 2 Questions:

Was the championship weekend advertised on local TV? If not, why?

Does DCA get a percentage of the concessions at the stadium?

You will not get locals into the stadium to see our product unless you TELL THEM ABOUT IT!

I saw NOTHING about the event on the local stations in Annapolis. A live feed from the stadium on Friday evening during the mini's would have brought people in for prelims, and that may have filled out sales for finals.

CONCESSIONS IS WHERE YOU MAKE YOUR MONEY! A 20% return to DCA from the stadium concessions would certainly help the bottom line. In some instances the organizers may have to provide some help at the concessions, but there is adequate time to recruit volunteers. OR it may be possible to word the contract for the venue to allow for 2 or 3 outside venders that will pay the 20%.
