  1. I am sorry to report that while driving east on the New York Thruway heading home to Springfield we had a spin out due to a major downpour. Our tow vehicle braked to avoid a collision and our trailer hydroplaned and spun both truck and trailer. The truck/trailer did a 180 coming to rest against the guardrail facing the wrong direction! The driver was able to get it out before someone could hit it.

    NO ONE WAS HURT!

However the truck sustained damage to both sides of the bed, the front and rear bumpers, and the trailer hitch is now at a 45 degree angle! We were able to still drive the truck to get us home, however we were not so lucky with the trailer. It has heavy damage, and the body separated form the floor! The right side door was almost torn off. It does appear that all our equipment survived the accident but since it was getting dark, and raining we will have to wait till we get it back home to do a thorough inspection.

At this time it would appear that we may not be able to compete in the spring BHOF events, as we do not presently have the funds to replace the trailer, We are hoping that we are covered by insurance, but are not sure what will be covered.

Just thought our friends would like to know what happened.

    I will post updates.

Again, no one was was injured, and we KNOW we got lucky that no other vehicle struck ours!

  2. The Erie TBirds Alumni's first performance at DCA was in 1992 as an Ensemble where we placed 2nd to "Archie". We felt pretty good about that. Our performance, if you weren't there, was different from the ensemble "Norm" as we had no idea what we were doing. While most, if not all, participating Corps' in this venue were seated with music stands we elected to form a semi-circle....no stands...no music....basically a "Stand-Still" performance.

I like to think what the TBIRDS did that night got the collective minds of DCA officials thinking about a new venue. In 1993 a MiniCorps' division of I&E was born. I can't recall the year (somewhere in the mid to late 2000's)

the announcer for the MiniCorps' show said, and I quote...."....and here is the group that started all this..".

I'd like to think that the Erie Thunderbirds set the first bar (and also winning 6 Minicorps' Championships) but that Star United has raised that bar to the point that this venue is one of the most popular in DCA. I wish ALL this years participants the best. ENTERTAIN ...and HAVE FUN.

I really miss the T Birds at the mini corps show.

    Especially the triple bass! :worthy:

    When will you be back?

  3. Crawling up from the basement once again, into the daylight - Ow. it hurts my eyes!

Basement Brass will make the voyage to Rochacha for the greatest I&E show on the planet.

    -Moe

Does this mean Basement Brass will make an appearance also?

  4. The Melha Shriners Drum Corps of Springfield MA is reintroducing their horn line!

The corps had dwindled to a very few and we decided to go all percussion. We have been using only glockenspiels for our music.

With the success of our percussion ensemble we are now looking for horn players.

If you can no longer march, but still want to play WE WANT YOU!

We perform on a trailer for our parades.

You do NOT NEED TO BE A SHRINER OR A MASON! We are allowed to have guest performers by our potentate. Naturally, if after being with us you wish to join you will be most welcome to.

We will be competing in Rochester with our percussion ensemble. Please stop by and speak with one of us!

See you in Rochester Sept. 2 on Main St.!
