  1. I recently saw a video of them performing music in uniform. It looks like they'll be back in that uniform (maybe a modification of it?).

That was from the annual We the People Memorial Day Flag Dedication. In recent history, the corps has worn the dress uniform for this (out of respect for the Veterans) and then sees the show costumes after and wears them at spring training

  2. It IS possible to do both, as I have helped the Cabs Alumni while performing with the Cabs competing corps. (Never the other way around)...BUT.....if there ever was a conflict, the Competing corps ALWAYS came first...no ifs, ands or buts about it. (AND I NEVER did both during the competition season.(June - Sept) It was one or the other....never both.)

It's a tough decision to make Will.....as you are young, and you probably feel like you can do both. But....it you were thinking about auditioning for Cabs, and they ever found out you were performing with an alumni when you should have been at a Cabs rehearsal/parade/performance, there might be some backlash. (They have eyes everywhere!! LOL)

Seriously think about what you really want to do....both (competing and alumni) are definitely fun for what they are!

Thanks for the advice Frank. I appreciate the advice, and I believe I know what I will do!

  3. So, i'm just looking out of sheer curiosity here, but I am looking for a BBb marching tuba. I have a vintage Conn 32K BBb sousaphone that I am interested in getting rid of. This horn plays very nicely. Has a great tone. Comes with hardshell wood case. Valves and slides all move. Has a newer neck and tuning bits This horn plays very nicely. I got it for a marching gig, but would prefer a marching tuba. So, anyone out there interested in a trade?

  4. I know this is an extremely old thread, but I wish to put in my opinion. Now, I am only familia with tubas/contras, so here we go:

Jupiter quantum - the new horns are fantastic. Now that they have gotten rid of the detachable bell. Intonation is excellent on the new ones. Only downside is that they are heavier than the other horns currently being used in DCI today. IMO, one of the nicest playing horns in production.

King system blue - light! Plays well, with a consistent tone in all registers. Awkward to hold. Light!

King ultimate - light. Not as nice as system blue, but nice.

Yamaha - it's heavier than a king, much lighter than the Jupiter. Stuffy on lower notes
