  1. Did Empire fold because of Reading? Syracuse? Renegades? No.

I guaran***tee you that Lee would not be saying the same thing if SCV was winning 10 out of 11 years.

But he claims to be a proud alumni, but he just wants to take them down about 5 pegs because they have their #### together.

Reading is not keeping people from going to shows. If anything, they are one of the reasons that people still go, because it's not a "hey let's get drunk and put on a show circuit" anymore in the eyes of DCI followers.

I hate to say it, but if DCA wants more people to come to shows, they need to tell DCI to stop having alumni at shows and ask for DCA corps for exhibitions. Many people just assume that is what DCA is all about.

  3. I think the issue with Madison was because Alicia Keys/ Jay - Z was doing a big show and they didn't want there to be anyone else doing the song leading up to the show so while it was approved early on, they withheld their permission shortly before championships?

I remember hearing something along those line, but I can be wrong.

  4. Also, I have a habit of always going to the local DCI and DCA show held about 20 minutes from my house. This year, there were 3 shows held there.

I only went to one of those shows this year.

    Why?

Because had I went to each show and got the best seat possible each time - I would have had to shell out $180.

Which show did I go to - the one with the best value. $20 for a seat on the 50 yard line. The other 2 shows that I did not go to - the cost was $80 per seat!

I also wanted to take my wife with me to a show, but since she was busy during the cheap show, add another $80.

Now, if I didn't want to get the best seat - I would have had to pay $35 to sit way out in and not get any sound coming to me.

My entire trip out to Reading - food, gas, tolls, and ticket did not equal $80 and that show is 3 hours away.

So here I am, I'm a guy who basically wants to give my money to drum corps and I decided against it.

  5. Interesting...coming from a person who is out of the DCA scene and just assumes people aren't coming to shows/championships because of the Bucs.

Because it can't possible have anything to do with the fact that championships is in one of the worst areas inside a city that is so far geographically removed from almost every corps home area. I've driven several times to Wildwood and Reading - both a 3 hour drive. Both shows are important to me - start of the season, and last regular season show/homeshow. I however would NEVER go the 6 hours required to stay in a place that offers almost nothing else to do to see drum corps for 2 days.

If it was closer like NY, PA or CT - absolutely would I go for both 2 days.

  6. Bucs amps were way too loud and I was pretty much in the same YL and a few rows down. Cadets were at one point as well in one their big sections, but no where near as bad.

Also, 1 corps out there was doing brass licks for brass licks sake and most of them weren't good.

Other than those minor things, I loved every corps that I saw. Obviously I'm going to be a Bucs homer, but I love the Cadets show as a close 2nd. My only issue was maybe it's my Xmen days coming through, but I think RCM should be the closer. Oh, and maybe a percussion person can answer this better, but the Drum lick in RCM when the theme is restated by everyone - it sounds like the drumline ALMOST plays the classic part except for the last 2 counts. (Best I can describe is section starts hitting on 2 & 4 in the first measure.) Or maybe I'm just crazy.

My biggest pet peeve is getting out of there. Maybe because there was no encore so almost everyone was leaving at the same time it was god awful getting out of there. Normally it's only somewhat bad, but I may have moved 5 car lengths in 20 minutes. It doesn't make sense that the people who paid to park close to the stadium get out after everyone. Next time I will be parking on the street if that's allowed.

  7. Just got here. Sitting top row, Side 1 on the 45. Sky just started. Not sure how to post pics from the phone. New field makes the stadium look great, although the 50 isn't where it should be in relation to the press box, but it is center with the field. Oh well. Judges are sitting in the stands but sectioned off.
