Could not disagree with you more...

Brass and percussion are killer this year and no one will dispute that. Not to mention I absolutely love this music book!  The drill is fantastic and they have been top three in VA nearly all season, including over SCV in San Antonio.  There are GE issues with the show which have not improved much since I first saw them in Detroit...biggest hit of the show is the opening.  That alone is not a good formula for GE success.

They have started to layer chorale parts over the brass...some may like that but to me it is clutter and takes away from the clarity of the brass and lessens the effect.  Guard is improved and the staging is general very good...but as discussed ad nauseum, a lot of their efforts are getting washed out because of the color palette.  Flags are popping out but the weapons and any body work are just lost from up top.  Closer is structured very well but still feels extremely controlled...staff needs to unleash the hounds and let the kids wail.  Oh and the props...we will put those in the "why bother" category.

GE numbers have nothing to do with the "run and gun" design the kids have been given or because of their performance level.  There are several design & pacing issues that are holding this vehicle back...not to beat a dead horse but when the last 11 minutes of the show do not hold up the first minute...you have a problem.

Love Crown. Love this show...mostly. Can admit the closer is kind of a slog to get through in its repetition and head bops until the company front.

I wonder about the guard, as this is the second Michael Townsend alum at the helm. It makes me think how involved they’re allowed to be in the process.

Give me the option, let me chose what I want to pay

Or give DCI's Marketing dept a swift kick in the nuts and welcome them to the 21st Century of Streaming platform and revenue generation. There are so many ways that DCI can monetize the activity so that the exposure for Paying Vendors and sponsors is ramped up that this group of Dino's are not aware of or exposed to. That would keep the cost for us the paying customer at similar levels.

This is the Apex of the Marching Arts the technology is there for this to generate much more money than it currently is.

I’m sure DCI is just busting out the gills in ft paid marketing staff.

Wow this recap is very telling.

BD is 1st in content for every visual category, just need to CLEAN

Meanwhile Bloo is outperforming their book in Visual Analysis AND Guard.

Prosperie has BD right behind SCV in percussion and there's a huge spread between their brass content and achievement.

BD is only matching their book in GE2, meanwhile Bloo is performing to or outperforming their book in 4 different captions

    I like it.

I’ve seen different instances already this season where a subcaption has outperformed (other corps). It seems awfully early to have a consistently higher achievement score unless you’re planning a ton of changes for no reason.

not a fan of much of anything i've seen so far this year, june or not.

i don't blame designers, though. it's just a taste thing. completely on me.

wondering if this is going to be the start of a limbo period for me like 2001-2006 where i'm just not liking the trends.

Not to hijack the topic, but have you/others you know ever decide to hang up your hat on a season you didn’t care for and just come back later?

There is some symbolism to the black and white photos... you’ll see what I mean in a few short days.

If you’re looking for a tight narrative or storyline, similar to what you’ve seen with Crown in years past, this show probably won’t be your cup of tea. There is an overarching theme to the Crown show, but the primary focus is on the performers and using the music and motion to provide the narrative. Not as sexy as Jack and the Beanstalk. But can still be just as effective.

I dread to see the YouTube comment guy complaining about the designers owing us an explanation 😓

The Blue Springs MO band that bested some heavy favorites did a mash up show recognizable to many DCI fans as a visual combination of 93 Phantom Regiment and 2018 Cavaliers but a musical mashup more in the line of that 93 Regiment program combined with some later SCV programs.

    Metamorph props. Really impressed.

on another note, why so many big name staff congregate in "flyover country?" Other than the big school factor, but they are big schools everywhere.

Very true! The Cavies are performing very well! Boston's show does connect a bit better and for lack of a better word...it's "cute"...predictable and cute. The Cavies are more whimsical and ironic but its a very enjoyable watch. Its just that in 2018, there is a lot of talent on the turf. Cavies actually passed BAC last night albeit by .05, but up is still up! The 4 above the Cavies are just really, really good and the current number one....well they are just on another level completely imo. BD can honk, clean and add all they want...but I don't think there is any way that they can beat Santa Clara...just too much sound, action, talent, music...EVERYTHING!

    Wait, what?

I said from the very beginning that I want the Blue Stars to place as high as possible and I was also very critical of lot of things...especially their guard. I even thought the corps might be in danger of falling out of finals this year. The corps has improved dramatically during the past couple of weeks and have proved me wrong; which I'm extremely happy about. There is still plenty of time left for them to keep climbing the middle tier and max the show out. With that being said, my Sunday dinner will be a plate of crow and some humble pie for dessert.

No offense at all, but you thought this? Stars guard always has the most exposed work so naturally is very dirty early season every year more than most.

Yes, pretty much the whole summer people saw it coming. When they introduced the ending and won their night at Allentown (beating Cavaliers IIRC), lots of people on DCP thought they would contend the next week. I remember talking to an old timer in the lobby of my hotel in Indy when I checked in that "this could finally be Phantom's year".

Live in the audience in Bloomington, it was totally obvious that they were better than Crown and Cavaliers on Thursday/Friday. But the back-to-back with BD on Saturday night was very intense. Lots of people wanted it to happen on Saturday night, not sure how many believed it had before they read the scores.

Edit: Nope, PR had 2nd highest score at Allentown (0.075 behind Cavies, 0.175 ahead of BD) but on a different night from BD/Cavs

Re edit: yeah, I remember that being BD's lone regular season loss that year with Cavies. From what I remember there was a tragedy surrounding the corps the day(s) before? My memory is a little fuzzy on those details.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

This show has EVERYTHING: cockroaches in evening gowns, beetlehorns, vomit flags, giant toothpicks, and woozy predators
    -What are woozy predators?
You know that thing where the guy from predator mixes his alcohol and prescription meds and lets little people ride on his belly like a seesaw?
