    I can understand people not warming up to the show immediately (it’s been a week, folks!) but I don’t understand how people are writing them off already. They’re just too good to fall out of the top 3.

    It doesn’t matter because both judges are judging the same things. Judges differ in opinion not only because of their judging background but a whole lot of other factors too— should we list their corps affiliations, colleges attended, age, where they were born, political affiliations, their social-economic status too?

    AGREED! The closer has a beautiful and stirring ballad— no doubt it’s the emotional centerpiece of the whole show, and frankly, given the show’s overall intensity and abstract-ness, it’s what it needs to tie it all together. It’s HECKING good. Each section just singsssss but the tubas really take your breath away. Mellos too but that’s no surprise.

    And man, that SCV brass! Such a full, heavy sound yet so clear and precise. I see them running away with the music caption again this year.

    11) Phantom Regiment (below The Academy by over a point??)

    1-3 is going to be competitive all season; same with 4-6. If Boston ends up in 6th at the end of the season, DCP will explode.

    It’s hard to be an SCV fan in the pre-season— complete radio silence. Hope their show can match last year’s one in terms of intensity and virtuosity.

    Of course I want them to win tonight, but having seen the Blue Devils (can’t stop humming their opener), it’ll be a task for SCV to win the first show, especially with how BD seems to come back even stronger after a Finals defeat (it was more of a trounce, actually). 

    Here’s to a reignited rivalry between my two favorite corps! 

    SCV's show was an epic musical fail.

    Why can't it be both? Fans aren't stupid-- we understand that we aren't saddled with having to make a one-or-the-other choice. Crazy as it sounds, we can both want SCV to win AND enjoy their show. 

    Is that hard to believe?
