  3. Unfortunately, the Capital City Fanfare Drum & Bugle Corps of Columbia, SC is closing down; the founder & director has moved to Virginia. All instruments and equipment are being sold. Good News! You have an opportunity to get some decent horns & equipment for your start-up or add to your collection! May these items go to good homes to be used and enjoyed... There are many G bugles, a few band instruments, several battery percussion, and plenty of music accessories available. Some need minor work but most are in playable condition. Note: I only have (1) 3-Valved G bugle left. It is a baritone. Also, all the G sopranos are only Rotary-Valved or Single-Valved. All the other alto, mellophone, flugelhorn, baritone & contrabass bugles are either Rotary-Valved or 2-Valved. Bugle brands represented are mostly DEG Dynasty, but there are some F.E. Olds & Son, Getzen, Gretsch, & Ludwig included. I also have (1) Eb Bundy II alto sax, (4) Bb cornets (Blessing, Holton, National & Yamaha), (1) flute (Armstrong) and (1) F mellophone horn (F.E. Hopefully there is something here that you might be interested in or enjoy having. 4. Thank you for your thoughts and suggestions... Yes, there is an INCREDIBLE amount of marching talent in this area, both students, staff and local band directors. Many of them have marched DCI or DCA corps. We are blessed to be able to draw from this pool of talent! Yes, there are several directors "on board" and several that are not. That is the nature of this activity... I still think we are a LONG way from competing with Carolina Crown. In fact, at this time, I would like nothing more than to serve as a "feeder corps" to groups like Carolina Crown, Cadets, Spirit, Music City and many others. I believe there is room for us all! -Daniel L. Wright, corps director

  10. I am glad to see others share in this idea. This has been my dream too, to see groups just like what you mentioned. I imagined a "little-league" version of drum corps or a "farm-team" system, where kids could learn the basics and get that drum corps experience. They could learn the ropes (so to speak) and maybe one day jump into the "big leagues"! Our group (the Music Makers Parade Corps) is young (ages 8-16) with little to no experience yet we are ambitious! Currently, we have most of the instruments & equipment for 50+ performers (brass, colorguard, percussion and extras) with about 30 kids showing interest. We have learned to keep it simple by planning just two parades (our first is July 4th!) and then maybe a couple mini-concerts). Kevin makes a good point. How do you pay for it all? Most of our instruments and equipment were purchased with private funding. It helps to have generous supporters and a good network (facebook.com, twitter.com, craigslist.com, etc.) to get the message out. Also, you can find good deals online if you search for them. Plus, we are using mostly 2-valved G bugles. These are getting hard to find (especially quality ones), but they can be inexpensive if you search for them. A few corps switching to Bb/F horns have made us a few deals, too. Thanks! Eventually, our ongoing expenses (storage fees, insurance, maintenance, repairs and pizza!) will require us to do a few fundraisers. Our kids will be helping out with bake sales, car washes, candy sales, etc. to help defray the costs. That way we can continue to operate without charging our members. Our goal is to bring the drum corps experience to more and more people. Cast as wide a net as possible. Participation in drum corps should not be only for those who can pay the heavy tour fees and commit their whole summer. It doesn't have to be that way. We are trying to provide an alternative. Thank you all for your support! Daniel L. Wright Music Makers Parade Corps
  11. Hello everyone, Music Makers Parade Corps is in search of instructional staff. We are a recent start-up (cadet) junior drum and bugle corps located near Columbia, SC with 25 kids showing interest and 2 rehearsals completed. We need brass instructors, especially upper brass (soprano bugles, trumpets and mellophones) and percussion instructors, especially a dedicated battery teacher. We could use some help with our colorguard, too. An instructor/choreographer with a dance background would be great. We are sponsored by a music and dance studio in Irmo, SC (www.MusicAndDanceIrmo.com). It has a great reputation in the community and one of the best teaching and working environments you can find anywhere. Some of our kids are students at the studio, but many more are from the surrounding area. They are very enthusiastic but a little young and inexperienced. This is a neat opportunity to make a great difference in many kids' lives. Please email me at praisehim29016@yahoo.com with questions, comments or for an information packet. We appreciate your support! Sincerely, Daniel L. Wright, Corps Director
