  1. Drum corps has, in my opinion, evolved in to something that is very demanding on the human body. Many times you'll see corps that present drill that has members moving up to 200 bpm and beyond while performing some fairly intense drill. I think it is VERY important to prepare for this in order to stay healthy on tour. Currently, I run almost everyday for around 30 minutes outside while listening to my favorite shows. I'm still in the process of working out sodas from my diet as well as other fattening products. I am doing this because I will be marching my age-out this coming summer. This will be my 3rd and last and I need to do what it takes now to survive later. What will you be doing? -Dalton
  2. I'm 99% sure that I'm marching now. After weighing the options, I figure there's nothing more important I could be doing with my summer. However, my next issue is where to march. Because this will be my 3rd season of drum corps, I will either audition at Crown or Coats. Both are a while away from me but the Coats do not release what their tour fees are until camp while crown's is on their website. Thanks everyone for your thoughts and good luck to those auditioning as well.
  3. Thanks for all the replies everyone. While I still have something thinking to do your posts have really helped me. I'll come back in the future and let you know how everything turns out...
  4. Well it's a marching band tech job and all in all I make about $1,500 throughout the entire. I don't really have an actual job because I'm still in college. I'm still afraid that I won't find another tech job when I get back. I know they'll fill my position with another guy when I leave so I'm not sure what to do.
  5. Spending around $3,000 isn't a decision made lightly haha
  6. But I keep thinking about what I may need my money for in the future. Things like a down payment on a car or something... I don't want to spend all my money and then realllllly need some day before I get a steady job. I just can't help but also thinking about how every season I wish I were out there performing. Tough situation.
  7. Okay, so I am 20 years old. Next summer will be my age-out year as far as division 1 drum corps goes. I really want to march my last season but I'm not so sure that it's really a smart idea. I currently work as a visual and high brass instructor in Northern Indiana. When the 2013 season rolls around I will have no issue paying for it seeing that I have been really good with the money I've earned lately. I would really hate to leave my instructor position at this school while also losing out on making money and spending just about all I have. On the other hand, it's my last season! I'm in music education so I feel that it's also good for my experience. Lastly, I would have to mention that I have already marched more than one season of drum corps. I change my mind every day it seems and I can't really talk to most around me so I was wondering what the experienced DCP would suggest. Thanks for your help.
