I the above this is more of an argument that DCA will remain in the North East. I think the bigger question with the thread is if it's a dying category in general, not just a geographic location for finals. DCA is down to 10 Open corps and 4 Class A corps. Personally, I think people would rather just play and do parades so you don't have to commit every weekend to learning drill.

And I think people would find just playing and doing parades, boring, at best. The current members of DCA corps all pretty much hate parades.

if CS works perfectly, once the scores come in, the numbers will be there. The trick is if they need changes, and you have to wait for 14 judges to double check everything.

Luckily Free Players are doing exhibition

And, if they need extra time at the end of finals, Cabs Alumni are performing. So that's at least an hour

I'll try to phrase this delicately...:innocent: ... but last year at the Seymour show, the venue had the foulest-smelling porta-potties in the history of the world. Not only was that ride closed... it never should have opened. LOL

Honest to God, you could....uhhhh.. sense their presence from a good distance away. Not kidding here.

I sure hope, for the sake of the fans and performers, that issue has been addressed.

    Nope. Still that bad.

OTOH, all three DCA corps did a phenomenal job tonight. So much better than when I last saw them three weeks ago. And Cabs, for one, were already very good then.

And, if anybody at Wiiliamsport next week who's been following DCA for a while sees Cabs and is not crying at the new ending, they have no heart whatsoever.

Heh... Brenda's in Seymour with Cabs Alumni, while the Reading show is something like a half-hour from her house. Go figure.

    Ugh.

But SOMEBODY has to go to the CT show. Hurricanes only had that show date for, what, three decades before the Reading show started?

So it sounds like you're not going with her? Bummer 😕

I'm sure you car thanks you for this weekend!!!   LOL

A nice easy weekend for her before Billtown, yes sir. 20 month old car, thanks to drum corps, just passed 50K miles today. Good thing I know how to get 250K+ outta my ride!

Heck.... if that started the second weekend of May, the Bucs could clean everyone's clock indoors!!!  (Since they come out ready to roll at their Spring Preview stage show every year that weekend.)

Except that only one corps had a complete show at Wildwood this year, and they weren't the one 🤣.

  7. Most will be, on Friday, of course. I don't know who & where, but I bet DCA will get around to posting those details, say. Friday morning 😁.

I believe Cabs will be at WAHS on Friday afternoon, due to having won the "honor" of being the halftime show at the football game there Friday night.

the reason for DCA staying in biz has been the Alumni corp performances.  It put more butts in seats esp at Finals Week.  There are now fewer Alumni corps as we all 'age out' and interest dwindles. Relegating the Alumni show to an indoor standstill - pretty bad biz decision.  For those who truly enjoy DCA in its current form , I hope it survives.

Have you SEEN the attendance at the Alumni show the last few years?!  Maybe 500 people? Look, part of DCA's audience really likes the alumni thing, but alumni corps don't put additional butts in the seats.

  9. Since nobody's done this yet, and I've tried being nice, waiting in vain for some other pedant, it's AVANT garde, thank you.

Now, to answer the question; As a four decade drum corps fan, I love when corps try to do something new, and unleash some deep meaning. As long as they have a loud hornline with a challenging book, smooth beats with lots of notes, and a guard that can spin, toss, and dance well, I'm good. Maybe I get what they're trying to say (I feel you, BK), maybe I don't (Not going to name names).
