Correct. It's the same old crap every year. We hear during spring training every year how great the Scouts sound and look. Love the music and new unis. Blah blah blah. Then the season starts and it's the same old crap and here we are 2 points behind the Colts, THE COLTS! This is a lousy leadership team that has failed every single year and has infuriated and alienated the alumni base. Dear God, what must they do to get fired? Madison BOD, rid your organization of this clown show before they do further damage that you may not recover from.

They have failed every year, but then ARROGANTLY proclaim that their $#!^ doesn't stink. Then they gaslight any alumni that dare criticize them!!

  2. Even if Madison ends up doing better this year and even moves back into the top 12. I do think CK needs to go. If for no other reason

than sometimes you need new blood in an organization. I think this current staff shows promise, so I'd love to see them stick around.

But in addition, I would really like to see Jim Mason come back if that were possible. (From what I've heard, it wouldn't be as long as CK is at the helm)

ooh. Cream with green and gold highlights?   Even if this is just the Drum Major variation, it's absolutely classy.

This is the Corps proper uniform. The DMs and Guard are the reverse - predominently dark green with tan/gold accents.

  4. I know they're wearing the tan overseas hat, but I think the original brown or tan drill instructor style hat would also be awesome!

Sadly, they won't be in uniform tonight for their opening home show because Stanbury couldn't deliver them due to power outages

at their facilities, but should have them for tomorrow night's performance. And yes, the music is GREAT! The horns sound

really good and the drumline is superb! Go Scouts!!!

In one of Jimmy Elvord's vid comments about the upcoming 2019 design he mentions that he corps was going back to roots as in the khaki of the original uniforms as a Scout troop. That led me to a thought about Scouts headwear for 2019:   the original overseas cap?  the French kepi they wore the years they crossed to Europe? what if anything will it be???

Yes, it will be the overseas cap. And I get the impression that during the closer, they will be removed.

  6. To those who dismiss the importance of playing for the people in the stands (who buy the tickets), have you ever performed a show that you poured your heart

into, and gotten only golf applause? On the flip side, have you experienced what it's like to have the crowd stand and cheer loudly multiple times during your show?

I have experienced both. And I can tell you, no matter how much the staff tries to justify or excuse the former, it as VERY disheartening when the crowd just isn't into

what you're putting out. On the flip side, when you have been given a powerful, fan-friendly show that gets a visceral reaction, and spontaneous, roaring standing-O's throughout

your show, it's incomparable. And that's something that we in the Scouts have a history of....I know I'm going back a long way, but watch the 95 show....all summer, every crowd

was insane. And to the artsy self-appointed sophisticates of the activity, it was a pedestrian, schlocky show that was beneath them...so therefore, it didn't deserve to be considered

among the best DCI shows ever. To clarify my point, would you as a kid want to throw down money, time, and effort to have an awesome experience performing a show like that - where

every night you felt like a rockstar? Or would you rather spend them summer performing sophisticated slam poetry set to "music"?

I would love if that happened. I would love if shows reverted back to having full wide open and readable drill, and sustained music, and the brass playing more. But, sadly, I don't think that's ever going to happen.

And, no one is going to follow the lead of a 16th place corps, and they shouldn't. That would be a mistake. This is what I don't understand about Regiment and Scouts - everyone can see what is winning, yet both of their design teams fail epically.

This is why I have come to hate DCI with a passion....or not so much DCI, but the incestuous relationship between the WGI dominated design staffs and judges, who have collectively decided that DCI must become WGI Summer Edition (and they are all friends and associates by the way). They write the sheets. They decide what art is. And it's a very narrow definition. All this is done with a huge middle finger held out to the paying public. They do this to satisfy and impress themselves and their HUGE egos! Which is completely unjustified, because few of them are actual working artists. The majority of them are simply brainwashed students of postmodern drivel. (BTW, the authors of that philosophy state that all things traditional must be torn down piece by piece so that cultural marxiam can rule) But they have the power and influence over the activity. So the choice is, play the game and alienate loyal fans, (and still dropping in placement) or say eff you back to the intelligencia and at least win back some of the fans by doing what you love to do.

I just watched 1982, 1999, 2005, and 2015. I am a corps history buff, love old and new. I am just sick about what has happened to the corps. I usually would stay as far on the optimism side of things as possible, but just can't in regards to the past several seasons and what has happened this off season. While I wish all the best to the members and hope they have the best summer in all regards possible, it saddens me that such cannot be the case competitively. Next year (2020), or in two years can the corps survive yet a third overhaul, rebirth, survival after the storm which will require ignoring many alumni and their wants? Such gets harder and harder in drum corps as time passes- yes, Spirit, Troopers, Boston, Blue Stars, not to mention all those we have lost that did not survive a first, second, much less third revival. Three things have ended all drum corps: money, administration, and alumni. Though sorry to offend, it must be said that the alumni will have the most blame to carry on this one. There are many reasons alumni become so toxic. I think Madison the most toxic of all time and largely because once they found themselves slipping in rankings in the late 90s and early 2000s, they looked outwardly and not inwardly for blame and excuses. That decade of members were too often told the system was failing them and many of them bought it and still do.

Yep. The outward vs inward looking is spot on. But it goes back to the 80s. Stewart constantly said things like "DCI is a cancer and we are the only healthy cell in the body"

And the "Judges are out to get us"...or "Chops never forgets" (Referring to the late Gary Czapinski and how he supposedly had an axe to grind against Madison for being fired)....constantly

blaming everything on the outside and not looking in the mirror.....or constantly looking back to the glory days and revive them instead of looking forward.

But with all that said, I'm not writing them off

for this season since we haven't seen or heard anything yet.

DBC BoD's get paid???  In what galaxy...

Though poorly worded, I think he's referring to the Executive Director and Director setting it up that way...they appoint their

rubber stamp BODs, pay themselves ridiculously, and then pat themselves on the back.....and can stay in their positions as long as they want.

I don't think he was trying to suggest that the BODs pay themselves or get paid.

    At any rate,.....Go Scouts!!

  10. No theme, no props, no problem! I'm getting excited for what's in store for this season! James Elvord speaks a lot about

not only upping the game in terms of entertainment value, but also about upping the level of execution and technique, which

has fallen off in recent years. I hope they acheive that, because I've missed seeing a Scouts Corps that can march like muther######s!!!

And as a former staff member of mine once said - Clean is it's own effect!

  11. Well the few reports I have heard say that the music is great and I'm looking forward to seeing

what they've come up with! That said, I don't like how modern Corps are playing this game of hush-hush.

It doesn't build anticipation, it doesn't help promote shows, and it does nothing to give them any

competitive edge. In this age of social media,  and the public craving content, Corps are really

missing out on huge opportunities to promote themselves/recruit/sell merch/etc. And Madison

desperately needs all of the above these days!!!

  12. Any news how the last camp went? Are they fielding a full Corps? It's hard to tell from the montage video

that they posted. It's basically an interview with one of the Drum Majors about how excited he is that they are

teaching the members how to be better men! I hope they also teach them how to be better marchers, performers

and entertainers! We'll. See I guess.
