  1. Living in Canada and many a winter parade we have done we use a mix of valve oil and rubbing alcohol in each valve and have good success with this now remember this is only for the parade once over we have the instrument flushed and re oiled properly

Hope this helps caution do not inhale throught the horn lol

  2. Thanks for those updates. It has been quite a few years since we have been to Cedar Rapids, I thought it was much further away than that from the Quads.

So there have been at least 4 corps(or continuations of corps) in the Quad Cities, and 5 different corps(or continuations) in Cedar Rapids? Did any of these corps merge into the Colts? I seem to recall in the mid 90s, after making finals a couple of times, the Colts really seemed to jump into another level. Or maybe a lot of these kids filtered into the Colts after the mergers/separations? It seems like Iowa had a lot more drum corps action than I remember. I remember also another corps from Iowa that had kids that looked like they were probably 6-8 years old and probably a little below the level of the Colt Cadets. For some reason I am thinking they were called the Kilties(not to be confused with the corps from Wisconsin-unless there was some affiliation?)

    Probably the Dechorah Kilties

  3. On the DCI side, none of the top 12 corps are playing Gs. Heck, many of the top 12 don't even play the same set of horns two years in a row. When you go to Open Class DCI, that's where you get a wonderful mixed bag of G and Bb. Racine Scouts used Gs, as do Spirit of Newark, Les Stentors, and Blue Saints. Spirit of Newark and Les Stentors actually still play a mixed bag of 2 and 3 valved horns. Les Stentors still uses at least one King K-90 contrabass. My DCA corps even borrowed a King K-70 baritone from them for a performance in which one of our baris had a... how shall I put it... accidental misplacement of appropriate equipment...

Blue Saints have been Bb since 2008 the rest is correct
