  1. Boston Crusaders: BAC fans went home happy last evening and may have had a good night's sleep. Changes still need to be made, but the show had energy and if last night's show had been performed last week, critics would have had less to say. There were some changes to the show and the windmills seemed less of a problem.it seems the critiques range from it not being edgy or sophisticated enough for some, and not "Man of La Mancha" enough for others. Note to announcers: the show title should be pronounced "Key-hoe-tic" not "Kwix-Otic." Just listen to the soundtrack or ask a high school Spanish teacher.

Actually Tim, the announcer(s) is/are pronouncing it the way the Corps has requested.

If you have access to the Corps' Facebook page, it can be found on an entry dated May 25th.

  3. One year someone left a pot of beans cooking which started a fire and ever since it's referred as the beanpot

Why is the show called Beanpot Invitational?

A beanpot is a deep, wide-bellied, short-necked vessel used to cook bean-based dishes. Beanpots are typically made of ceramic, though pots made of other materials, like cast iron, can also be found. The relatively narrow mouth of the beanpot minimizes evaporation and heat loss, while the deep, wide, thick-walled body of the pot facilitates long, slow cooking times.

Beanpots are traditionally associated with New England, in particular Boston, Massachusetts. This association is evident in the nickname Beantown, and the use of the name beanpot for Boston events such as the Beanpot ice hockey tournament.

  4. I agree that a shout out has to go to all who made last night's show a success. The venue was perfect. I thought it would be a parking nightmare, but it was dry smooth. With Commonwealth Ave on one side and Beacon St on the other, congestion can be the name of the game even on quiet days. As always, Mike Woodall made everyone feel like family. Concessions moved quickly. Also the marching members discovered White Mountain Creamery, which sadly I did not visit this time around, but is always worth the trip when visiting the Heights.

It was also great for those of us who took public transportation. The "T" was just a short walk from the stadium.

  5. My bad!! Earlier in this thread someone asked about the announcer last night and I replied Mike Woodall. Just saw Mike in the Crusaders FB picture of the crowd and Mike was in it. Chris Holland was on the field for awards so maybe he was the announcer.

The announcer for the show was Dave Surface. Same person who announced at Concert in the Park.

  7. Part of a Facebook post made by George this morning:

We are sad we could not complete last evening's show in in Clifton NJ. We tried.

From the first delay which seemed to work perfectly allowing the weather to clear out, the YEA! staff thought were in good shape except for that small but every powerful cell that appeared just before intermission.

We were monitoring various services and even up to 5 minute before the rain hit, the prognosis was for light rain and the bulk of the precipitation staying to the North.

Needless to say, that was not a correct forecast.

We were hoping, and the corps were hoping to begin again at 10:00 pm, but the remnants just kept on coming even as we stood on the field discussing our options

Eventually, I personally made the decision to cancel the remainder of the show do to safety concerns and the fear of damage to equipment for all corps. Such was difficult as our attendance was already down 500 due to concerns folks already had about warnings and watches communicated during the day by the National Weather Service.

Thank you to all who came out.

  8. Cadets and Bluecoats while technically on after sunset, will hardly be performing in darkness. Darkness will not fall until 9:00 or after, just after the last performance by the Bluecoats. I also saw somewhere that BAC was scheduled last, but both the DCI website and fromthepressbox confirm the schedule above.

BAC's schedule for the day was just posted on their Facebook page. Their step off time is at 7:58pm (same as what's posted on dci.org)
