  1. Highly recommend Chatham Tap on Mass Ave, you might even run into some DCI greats who frequent.

If you like Vonnegut you should also check out Bluebeard along Virginia Ave.

Support local where you can and tip well, it's been a challenging year for downtown Indy and the tourism industry.

  2. It is so interesting on a couple of different levels - to hear the percussion writing approach nearly 20 years later based off a similar brass score (far more dense writing).

Also interesting to hear the approach to the music arrangements by a different percussion arranger (I'm assuming Ferguson).

Looking forward to seeing the show unfold this summer!

    Blue Knights '91.

I love this show.  I love the music and the Zingali drill that year.

For a while there was a local artist who did custom painting on their flags - each one being unique.  I wonder how long they continued that tradition.

And yes, I miss the dots.

There is also a horn player in a sling still playing.  I look at that and think about how absolutely dedicated these performers are.

I believe the artist's name was Brenda Vang? Their flags looked to be hand painted at least through the early 2000's.

2002 Phantom was JD Shaw's first year as arranger.

Their drill was not that great, but their guard was quite good.  I think Jennifer Leseth (Jennifo?) was still guard caption head in 2002 but I may be wrong.

That's a guard you don't want to mess with.

She was there in 2003 also.

  5. This was so great! As a 2002 ageout I appreciate this low tech way of talking about the highs and lows of the season (one of the greatest experiences of my life, personally).

Earlier on in the posts you mentioned a couple of names connected with the Colts (and of course Crossmen) Chuck Naffier and Dean Musson.

Sad to know that Dean is no longer with us, he seemed to have such an impact on so many students lives https://www.dci.org/news/former-crossmen-director-musson-passes-away

I don't remember mentions of cake with that incident, but leftover cake, leftover cookies, and canned pudding were common when I marched in 04-05

Cap Reg had the nicest food trailer that clearly didn't serve enough 'food'. Thankfully once word got out the right people were brought in (2006) to help salvage the season from the tour perspective.

If you have about 10 minutes and aren't familiar with what high school lines can do, check this out. The new BOA Grand National Champion final run through with a camera following the drum line around.

    Vandegrift drumline @ final rehearsal

I realize comparing outdoor and indoor is a little bit apples and oranges, but for percussionists, how does this line compare to someone like Chino Hills?  I wonder how many alumni of this 10-year old program have marched corps, and if any of these young men and women plan to march in DCI once their high school days end.

If you liked that then you should check out Ayala.
