  1. I agree jkmummer,

Whether Cabs win or lose at this point really comes down to the percussion in my opinion. The brass is #1, colorguard is right up there, the visual and effect captions are at the top. If the percussion scores too low that's it. Done

Reminds me of the same problems with Crown in 2012 and 2013. It cost them in 2012 and they were gifted a score in 2013. As much as I want Cabs to win I don't want them gifted anything. I wanna see them win it fair and square.

  2. Are you sure you should be mentioning rational thought? Your glasses are very red.

My glasses are many colors. However, I haven't seen all the other corps I am a fan of yet. Doesn't make my opinion of those certain Bucs fans on here any less valid.

Maybe they were right afterall. They didn't have a "long" bus ride, they had a longer practice on Sunday, and I can't remember what the other excuses were to losing to someone else in the regular season finally. You know all of those things that didn't matter in the last decade that are now suddenly vitally important and the only reasons why they've lost

  3. Perhaps you missed my point, which was to point out how ridiculous folks are being to imply that Bucs could not have improved "dramatically" simply because they only improved in score by 2.5. Does anyone actually believe that the Bucs have opened an over 2 point spread? Certainly not I. So, as much as I appreciate the sentiment, no need to feel sorry.

They can't open a spread when another corps didn't even compete. That'd be like saying Fusion had beaten the Bucs on all those rehearsal weekends that Bucs didn't compete yet Fusion did.

  4. Bottom line is that if you base things on raw score alone, Bucs are 2.2 points ahead of Cabs according to the Spandy thread. And given the fact that the homers were all talking about how "huge" a .8 spread was just 2 weeks ago, looks like the season is over, huh?

Or the season is over next weekend when the Cabs get ahead of the Bucs since they're swapping weekends off/on.

Your inability for rational thought and common sense is just astounding. I feel sorry for you

  5. I was not at Downington. But, the reports I have been getting this morning tell me the Buccaneers have made DRAMATIC, even uncanny, improvement since Grand Prix !

If true, the entire complexion of the season changes. Nothing bad in that. I figured Bucs would start slowly. They are said to have faced a huge turnover in membership. Maybe their additional practice time and building confidence is starting to show. For certain, Caballeros will knuckle down, and with Minnesota Brass anticipated to be solid, the season's end will be special.

"DRAMATIC"? Didn't they only go up 2.5 points? Hardly dramatic

  6. The fun part is that it is not just these two teams with a legit shot here. MBI has only been seen out west and have been looking/sounding solid on tape. Fusion is less than three back. C2 with its historic "late season improvement" can make up a sizeable margin. CV is not so far back and has the show to make a charge.

We have a potential SIX corps where that have a somewhat realistic chance of claiming gold. When was the last time THAT happened in DCA?

No only 3 have a realistic shot at gold. Maybe in fantasy land 6 could.

There's no way Fusion will over take Bucs and then Cabs. It's just not going to happen. No one can take away their progress over the years but let's keep it realistic.

C2? No. They were 6 or 7 points back. No matter how many Cadets people they force to fill holes can make them overcome the top 3. There just isn't enough time in those 2 weeks.

CV? Love them but no that won't happen either.

  7. All of these Bucs fans are seriously butt hurt that their team finally lost. You're only really hurting the Bucs image by making excuses.

    - "Oh it was the long bus rides" which never stopped them from winning before

    - "They didn't get to practice much on Sunday". All they've done the last month is practice

    - "Cabs don't move" I'm sure I'm just imagining the sweat and panting members as they trooped the stands because why would they be tired if all the did was stand still. Plus I'm imagining all the drill I watched with choreographed dance moves since Wildwood

    - "Cabs have an easier visual program" While that may or may not be the case, how is that any different than any other year?

The simple fact is the Cabs are beating the Bucs (for now, who knows what the season will bring). It's not like they're wrongly being awarded points they didn't earn.

  8. I attended both the Wayne & Secaucus show. I had Cabs over Reading both nights. I did think that Reading was much improved last night and that the scores would be much tighter instead of wider spread.

Both corps have completely different styles. Reading litteraly flat out runs during the entire show. Cabs do alot of "park & play" that allows them to blow the house down. Kind of like comparing last year's Cadets to Madison Scouts. While being a Buc's alum, I liked Madison's style much more than Cadets. Just my opinnion, not that of management.

Ummm Cabs don't park and play except the one salsa part that I remember. Unless of course they changed their drill since last weekend when I watched the fan network. They always seem to be moving

  9. So disappointed I didn't make this show!!!!! I guess I'll have to subscribe to the fan network and watch them. I did hear Cabs were just absolutely phenominal.

I agree with John that the Cabs have a great tuba line again this year. I haven't seen enough of the other corps to make my opinion permanent but after what I saw in Wildwood and with Cabs beating Bucs this weekend I have no doubt it'll be confirmed. Although I'd have to give props to the baritone line for Cabs this year. They may not be the best or whatever, but MAN what an improvement over last year!! I don't think that can be stated enough.

The Cabs have always had awesome mello and trumpet lines, but add in the awesome tuba line of last year and again this year, plus the huge improvement in the baritone line....wow such an awesome wall of sound hitting us in the stands. Those new horns they got really help too. Good for the Cabs brass line.

  10. So I just want to pose this question... and I want to start off by saying that I am in no way trying to change your opinion. I completely respect a healthy conversation and I strongly encourage people to post their opinions on this forum, so please don't take this as an attack. You may be right with these predictions.

I am just wondering why people think Fusion might overtake the Cabs? I'm not saying they aren't capable, or it won't happen, or anything like that. But for these predictions to be posted, obviously people think it might happen on Saturday. Is it just a gut feeling that Cabs will come out flat, or that Fusion deserves to be higher?

Cabs were 2 points higher than Fusion in their last outing and 1.45 and 1.7 before that. Cabs rehearsed all last weekend where Fusion competed. If we feel that Bucs should stay on top after rehearsing the last few weeks, than that same logic should apply all the way around right?

I'm not looking to sway anyone, or defend my own opinion so please don't take it that way. I'm just looking to see what the basis is here for Fusion to have a BIG jump and Cabs to lay an egg essentially.

Ultimately, I'm just enjoying this conversation and want to see it go further.

I think it's just high hopes for their particular favorite corps. Cabs are my favorite among the corps I root for. However them overcoming Bucs this year is an actual possibility, which is why I keep hoping they will plus I just hate seeing the same "team" winning year after year. Imagine another sports team going undefeated for this long.....people lose interest in the games and season. The gap between Bucs and Cabs is only 0.45. I don't see Fusion over taking Cabs at all, even though Fusion is a corps I like. Fusion has a lot of online hype this year, which is a good thing, except when the hype isn't lived up to.

  11. I think early season, having a 3 or 4 weekends of rehearsal is going to yield more than having more shows. You lose a lot of rehearsal time on show weekends compared to camps. Bucs went toe to toe with Cabs & Fusion at WW, and came out on top, if only by a half a point or so. I think we will see a bit more of a spread at Wayne. The interesting thing will be to see if Fusion can surprise everyone and overtake the Cabs....

    Bucs 83.8

    Fusion 82.3

    Cabs 82.2

    C2 79.5

    Bush 78.9

    CV 77.2

    Hurcs 75.0

    Sun 74.1

    WR 73.6

I love Fusion fans enthusiasm for sure. They barely beat Cabs score from a week ago, I don't know why they think they have a chance this week at beating them. I'm sure the Cabs rehearsed this weekend so you can bet they got better. I get excitement for sure but keep it realistic so the members aren't let down when it doesn't happen.

Fusion's show isn't on the same level as Cabs or Bucs (the two are basically neck and neck for 1st place). While Fusion has a chance at the Top 4 this year, as of right now Cabs and Bucs are in a fight for the gold, something Fusion is not even close to being considered for

  12. >>The Bucs have been practicing for a month and I'm sure that didn't hurt them.<<

So ... I'm curious to what the Buc's schedule has been between Wildwood and Wayne ... I checked their website and unless I'm looking in the wrong place, could not find any indication of practices, parades, F&F's or, anything regarding their activity ... anyone in the know know what they've been up to? ... with the 4th of July holiday in the middle of their hiatus from competition, I would imagine it would have been a killer opp to earn some serious $$$ in parades ...

    Again ... just curious ...

    :-)

I'm sure they rehearsed every weekend. No way they would take a weekend or two off

  13. even better when DCI mentions it, as thats been going on for years

I think that's more the former DCA members mentioning it rather than DCI, DCI doesn't seem to care that DCA even exists. I still don't understand why DCI and DCA don't have more of a cooperative agreement than what they have. Both organizations could benefit greatly by working together. In a dream world perhaps.
