  1. You'd think there wasn't a big drum corps show about to happen with the deafening silence on here about it. I know, some get a little testy (huh huh!) about prediction threads, but my theory is, SO WHAT? Here goes.....

    Buccs 81.0

    Fusion 77.9

    Cabs 77.7

    Bush 72.7

    Hurcs 69.0

Go ahead & bunch up yer panties, then, once you calm down a bit, post your own!

  2. I think early season, having a 3 or 4 weekends of rehearsal is going to yield more than having more shows. You lose a lot of rehearsal time on show weekends compared to camps. Bucs went toe to toe with Cabs & Fusion at WW, and came out on top, if only by a half a point or so. I think we will see a bit more of a spread at Wayne. The interesting thing will be to see if Fusion can surprise everyone and overtake the Cabs....

    Bucs 83.8

    Fusion 82.3

    Cabs 82.2

    C2 79.5

    Bush 78.9
    CV 77.2
    Hurcs 75.0

    Sun 74.1
    WR 73.6

  3. There are many, many threads on here about how many corps there used to be "Back In The Day". And unfortunately, there are always announcements about a few corps not coming out for the season, or even closing up all together.

Typically the reasons come down to two things, PEOPLE and MONEY.

If you want to see more corps doing well this coming season, do what you can to help out with those two things. So what can YOU do?

    PEOPLE

    1. Join a corps

    2. Join the support staff of a corps

    3. Volunteer for a day to help run an event

    4. Refer younger people to join a corps

    5. Go to a show or three

    MONEY

    1. Make a dontaion - most corps websites have a link. Even a few dollars is appreciated

    2. Buy tickets for shows. Buy some for any high school band kids that you know.

    3. Buy a t-shirt or hat or whatever

    4. Encourage your friends to do the same

    5. Make another donation. ;)

If everyone on DCP sent $20 to their favorite corps, especially right now in the off-season, when most corps don't have much cash flowing in, it would make a HUGE difference and might even keep a corps or two afloat and on the field.

  4. ...When I saw the Reading Buccaneers for the first time this season (via Scranton on the FN), I was stunned. Seriously stunned. I've followed DCA as avidly as DCI since I first became interested in drum corps, and I can truly say that I have never seen a DCA show with such a high level of difficulty pulled off as well as the Bucs have been doing this season. Their drill is daring and fast paced. The velocity is outstanding. The music is exposed and exciting, the idea of the show is as self-explanatory as it gets, and it delivers on every level.

....But the Bucs have done something I didn't really think was possible... they took a show with a level of difficulty rivaling or surpassing many junior corps, have rehearsed only on weekends, and have created a production that has literally made me fall in love with corps all over again.

As fate would have it, I am moving to Philadelphia in January (job offer, and an agent that wants to sign me for my book). This is fortuitous, as I have been itching to march again. I hope to be a Buc in 2014.....

I'm totally with you on this. I had my doubts early in the season, but after seeing the Scranton show, I was also amazed at how well Bucs were doing such a difficult show. The difference in drill speed with the other corps is what strikes me the most. I guess it helps that they all look about 19 years old out there.

Once in awhile I think about trying to march again, but my 49 year old knees could never hold up with what the Bucs are doing on the field.

  5. Didn't mean to be over critical. Like I said, watching a video isn't the same as seeing and hearing in person. I just guess I expected to see a really polished product like we are used to seeing from previous years this late into the season. I'm sure Brass is working hard and doing great. I'm also sure the other corps were sweating it out in the heat last weekend too. Should make for a great weekend in Annapo.

I will concur with DeCellR8 here..Yeah, the Brass-inians looked a little pooped on Saturday night's dress run at "the Bank", but after having camp all day in that 100+ heat index - plus the work to load up and transport everything over to "The U" and about an hours worth of work on that field - with the exception of blowing the stands down - that was a pretty good run..I'm sure that if the weather is what is predicted, they won't have a problem getting fired up and energized for this weekend..

BTW - they went out and worked most of the day Sunday as well having moved to yet another facility..Air temp was somewhere in the mid 90's, heat index pushing 'a buck' (100)..AAAAAAAAAAAAH, Steak Sunday at camp..waiting to see the notorious "undie runthrough" in Annapolis...

Best of luck to everybody - this will probably be one to remember...and it ain't just because of the fight for the top.

  6. Having seen Cabs at a few shows this year, and Minnesota in Downingtown, I think Cabs have a real shot at catching Minnesota. I kind of expected to see more improvement and refinement from Minnesota Brass than I did in the recent video. The drum line is really good, but the drill and the brass are about where I remember it being in July. I saw Cabs last week in B-port and they are for real this year. They have made lots of obvious improvements from mid-season, where I don't really feel the same with the video of MB. Granted, a video is not the same as seeing and hearing it in person, so maybe my opinion will change at Pre-lims. But here's my guess for Top 4 as of now....

    Bucs

    Cabs

    MB

    Cadets2

I haven't seen Atlanta CV yet, so I'm holding off on guessing 5th. My feeling is that Empire will pull it off with some added spice that we all know will be there at Finals.
