I think  this show is when BD overtakes SCV in percussion.  most insane drum parts I ever heard!

I haven't watched as closely as you have, no doubt, from what little I have seen they're both beastly this year and that has me very excited!

I did make a prediction that BD may very well pass them in overall score tonight. Regardless, I'm really looking forward to the results from this show, great lineup and good to have BK lined up with the larger group of West Coast competition finally!

  2. Got to see ensemble and run through tonight. Wow.....this show is COOKING! Lots of potential and opportunity for adjusting but as far as early season goes, I can't remember being this excited for a Crown show in several years.

Jeff's drill writing is outstanding and it feels almost like quintessential Sacktig at first viewing. Can't wait to see what everyone else brings to the field this year, but I feel like this show will end up getting massive standing Os. That closer just oozes energy and swagger. Love it!

Does anyone know when ensemble is tonight? I live close by and I would love to go watch.

I'm curious about this as well. I'll be on the way back to the area from Flint around 5:30, hoping to catch ensemble this evening.

Edit: Their schedule posted on FB says Warmup at 7 with Ensemble scheduled to start at 7:30!

I lost most of my connection to Drums Corps in the 80s when i married a guy who HATED the activity.  And no internet back then!  Once i kicked him to the curb, i struggled to afford Allentown for me and my kids every 2 or 3 years.  Now the kids are all on their own, and i can actually see room in the budget.  the big question for me is do i go solo, or find someone to go with?  Solo, probably, so i can spend my time the way i want to...

Go solo for sure, unless you have a friend that might enjoy it as much as you! Though it is nice having an extra set of hands for all the merch you wanna buy. :)

Budget looks good for my first trip to Indy in 2019!  Last finals I saw was in 99!

You absolutely need to make it! For all the bashing people do of DCI hosting finals there (quite a bit of which is earned) it's still an absolute blast to experience.

I too went through a drought of attending finals (about 10 years, also known as first marriage) and ever since I've been going back starting in 2013 I haven't once been disappointed. Hope to see you there next year!

  6. That's an extra week for me to wait! No I'll go to theater. The season is short, I need my fill of drumcorps.

I'm considering taking that day off this year. Last year, I was so amped all day with anticipation for the theater show that I was totally worthless at work....lol.

  7. Carolina Crown is at that development stage now with " a rep " of excellence in performance that enables them now to play Three Blind Mice, or Jingle Bells, or pop tunes from Dionne Warwick from the 50's. 60's, or anything... ANYTHING..... and place well. Thats what good writers, good talent pool of marchers, good visual and guards allow you to do in DCI. So this overthinking of the themes, and music selection of Corps really is quite amusing to me. Until these shows hit the field, all this talk about predictive " winning " or " losing " or " copycat " or " exciting " themes based upon a press release is funny as all heck to me.

    This.

You and I share an opinion on this topic completely.

It's like seeing the dessert menu at a restaurant and deciding not to order something because you just know there's no way that peice of pie can be as good as the ones Grandma used to make.

  8. We both marched drumcorps so deep down without even knowing you, I feel connected to you. Best experience of my life and have that connection with everyone here who marched. Im very happy for you because your team is in a great place and enjoy the season. They will be extremely competitive and very well received as last season. I was in the box last year at finals next to the judges with some of my Cadet cronies and we all had Cadets, Crown, Bluecoats and BK as the the favs of the night. When did that ever happen?! They'll be great!

This connection you speak of..... It's referred to as "the force". It's strong in you, I sensed an awakening.....

    :) lol

  9. I'm pumped for 2016. This show has a lot of potential for story lines to develop while at the same time holding to (hopefully so) the super talent level of execution for the spectacular Brass line performance from 2015 (Ott winner) and Percussion line (didn't with the Sanford but was darn close, some say should've won). While I loved 2015 from a difficulty perspective, it certainly lacked in the story line cohesion perspective (at least in regards to what is rewarded in the GE department these days). The early going of this show seems that strides were made in addressing that area.

That said, 2015's top 5 was the most enjoyable group of corps I've witnessed in a very long time. Regardless of how shows placed, there were smiles from ear to ear in my group of spectators. I'm hoping we see as compelling (if not more so) this year.

Looking forward to what all this year holds from all corps!

  10. I have nothing to add to this debate about the name. But I will say that yet again, the Cadets have helped fill the void of the off season for us as fans, alums, prospective members etc.

Both by way of naming convention discussion and perhaps not discussed enough is the repeated openess of the program and us even having the opportunity to b!t@h and moan about something.

Just thankful to see and hear drum crops......its a long 7 months or so in front of us!
