  1. Flying in on Thursday. The lady and I are staying at the Hyatt Place by the Airport again this year. Have a ton of points from business travel and this one is free otherwise would stay downtown.

    Our itinerary is as follows.

Thursday DEN-IND land around lunch time, make out way to Skyline Chili. Shes a Cincinnati native so it's mandatory.

I'll drop her at the hotel and go to Military Park. She loves the shows but not as into it as standing in the lot lol. Will stay there for a while I think. If there is gonna be a DCP meet up we should just do it at the park lol.

Friday Semi tickets. Will be there all day and sadly, I too will have to leave the missile like objects and vuvuzuelas (I doubt that's how its actually spelled lol) in the car.

Saturday finals tickets. Stoked for the melt my face off seats I scored this year. But before, probably head out to a housing site or two. After will absolutely hammer back a few beers to unwind after being so wrapped up at the show.

Sunday, day trip to Cincinnati to see her friends and family and then back to Indy for a flight home on Monday afternoon.

I'd be very excited for a DCP meet up if that's a thing.

7th time to finals for me. Second time in Indy. Went last year too.

As much as some of us like to complain about it always being in Indy, I still very much look forward to the trip and am just as excited this year as last year.

    See you guys in Indy!

  2. I don't post much on here, but love the site.

That being said, been an avid drum corps fan since 1996. Just wanted to log on here and say, that in all my time watching drum corps I've never particularly cared for many of Bloo's shows. Parts of their shows yes, but never saw one that I thought was a complete package to get excited about...................that has now changed. I absolutely LOVE this show. Really hoping for a strong finish from this one, if nothing else I think it's going to be a tremendous crowd favorite this year.

  3. It would work well for visual effect no question. I'm calling it now...LED's will be the next new "thing". WC has already shown it works.

*So many possibilities for creative uses, LED's on the uni's, in the pits, obviously on the drums, woven into the flags...? I'm just curious who ques the color changes, that would take a dedicated individual right?

I wonder if a corps could make the lights trigger based on audio frequency. ..like the graphical eq on a stereo? Might be a bit cheesy but could be cool. Or if the lights could be controlled wirelessly from a synth board.....I don't claim to know how to do these things because well, I don't! Just off the cuff stream of consciousness.

Anyhow, could be cool, would be neat effect during guard tosses etc too.

  4. Dumbest thing I heard this season (not on DCP) was a lady behind me at finals during retreat "I don't understand why people stand up for this.....Its not the national anthem so I don't stand up"

You stand to honor the performance in my opinion......anyway, there were other brilliant things she said and so she takes the award for me.....

Haven't been posting here very long so I'm can't comment too much on the dumbest on DCP really :)

  5. And now that they won with them and the second place corps debatably barely played music or marched drill....my fear is this will become drum corps throughout the ranks. I hope not though

I was more entertained around the 17-10th levels than some of the top ones

I'd rather see hideous uniforms than sit through anything approaching that BD show again.

  6. Some of us get ONE live show in early June and then have to fly half way across the country to see ANYTHING. Not possible without taking out a loan!

Agreed. I'm in Denver. We get DATR and that's been in early July for the past decade (championships year excluded). I go to thay show and that's it. I'll be coming to Indy this year which will be my first time ever traveling to championships and it's been a bit pricey but totally worth it.....just can't go to more shows than that without a loan...as you put it!

  7. I think the lack of applause from people during BD's show is because there really was a lack of applause for BD's show. I would characterize the reception at the end as polite at best. From my seat in the club level, the applause had died out by the time the drum major finished saluting. That's in contrast with Troopers, SCV, Crown, Scouts, and Cadets.

As someone who auditioned for (thought didn't make the cut) for BD prior to the 99 season and dreamt of being in their dline for years....it's hard for me to agree with this. But I do......sadly.

At Drums Along the Rockies I literally 3 clapped out of courtesy buy had the exact same reaction as most people did.....ummmmm wtf was that?

I see both sides of the debate, execution, techniques etc vs entertainment value/passion and excitement. I'll stay out of the debate as to whether or not I think it's a good show but a consistent observation from every show has been......wtf.

    Just my two cents.

  8. I saw it live and I still don't get the poles. Sorry.

I'm with ya. I'm not a big prop person but some of them are tasteful and add to the show .... and then there are props that are props for the sake of having props. Personally I find the poles to be distracting to the whole show.
