  1. I am digging this show except for the very, very end. The synth bends with the hornline is killer, and it is going to be very cool when they smooth out the sound and body work to make it seamless. But the last 32 counts (or whatever) featuring the percussion and having people jump off the triangles makes no sense to me. If you want to keep the perc feature, fine, but put it right before the synth/brass stuff so that the very last thing the crowd hears is that awesome wall of sound. Otherwise, they are taking the wind out of their own sails by going so big with the penultimate note but ending with a moment that looks ripped out of the Cavaliers playbook.

I originally thought the same thing. But the more I watch it, the more I "get" the ending. Ending with the impact note would be too "straight up" drum corps for this show. The ending as it is now adds a bit of a tilt to a typical drum corps show ending.

  2. Is there a reason why the Fan Network doesn't display the time broadcasts are supposed to start? If anyone here has any influence over the Fan Network, that's a simple change that would make a big improvement. Its odd that I have to to the show websites to find out what time things are supposed to start. Maybe its there and I'm missing it. Seems like it should on the schedule next to the date.

Ask, and you shall receive, jasgre2000. FN webcast schedule now includes start times, complete with local time zones!

    Thanks for listening, DCI.

  3. not sure what site your using for the point and click forecast... Google NWS Pittsburgh. Then click on the show area. That local office is saying a 20% chance before 10pm. I still say less than 10%. There are alot of sites out there with various weather information. Most not up to date. If you want a up to date forecast that is relatively solid in the weather world...go with the NWS. We aren't perfect by a long shot...but I'll put our forecasts up against anyone. I can't say too much as Id like to keep my job. Lol.

Dude, I'm an NWS forecaster too. I was on the PIT NWS page and clicked on Pittsburgh for the P&C forecast. It was time stamped 510 pm (or something like that), and I swear the forecast at that time had 50% in the evening (which, I agree seemed overdone). Looks like in the meantime (time stamp now says 649 pm) that the forecast was updated and the POPs are now reduced. Should be a good night for drum corps!

  4. Just watched the show on the FN. FANTASTIC show and concept.

Even if this show doesn't win or medal (there's a lot of great competition out there), this could very well be their statement year that does propel them to the next level in the years to come (a la Carolina Crown in '08). The music and show concept is fresh and interesting, and I think recruitment of top tier talent should come easier.

  5. They are changing guard uniforms and the corps proper sash colors for each of the three sections (Presidents) starting in early July. The color changes are to signify the different moods of the country during those particular periods. Not sure if I would want them to have posters of Presjdents. I think if everything is so literal, it loses it's artist integrity.

That makes perfect sense to me. Thanks for the insight.

  6. Perhaps I missed this earlier in this thread, but...is the Cadets' guard spinning rifles and sabers this year?

Other thoughts after watching the Indiana show VOD a couple more times: the stage is an effective back drop for the pit and could actually be utilized more in that regard; I'm not usually a fan of narration, but this is already the best implementation of narration the Cadets have had through the years (good script, great voice, great delivery (even if pre-recorded and lip-synced)); would showing photos of each president on the front of the stage (or on either side of the pit) during the respective major sections of the show be too cheesy?

  7. I was at the show last night and I watched most of the shows again this afternoon on the Fan Network. Having read a significant number of posts on this thread I think I've learned a lot more about opinion expressing than I did about last night's performances.

I brought a family of four with me, including two youngsters who were being introduced to the world of drum corps for the first time. Our seats were high near the 30-yard line. Some comments about our experience - which, by the by, was all the more rewarding thanks to the perspectives of the first timers, ages 8 and 11.

Thanks for the perspective and review. I'm always interested in the opinions of those first being exposed to the activity (especially at a younger age). So, did you give the youngsters any historical tidbits, like Troopers being "America's Corps," or Phantom usually does classical stuff, or Crown was last year's champion? Or were they flying completely blind (so to speak)?
