Has anyone been having fan network issues? I can't seem to get the videos to work on my phone or computer. It says the server rejected the connection...any troubleshooting tips?
Thanks!

Overall: very much liking this show!
Some early-season issues, yes. Middle section still needs clarity.
Music: WOW! For me, this is a winner. All kinds of Copland, from Appalchian Spring, Fanfare for the Common Man, Tenderland, I think I heard snippets of Rodeo, Grover's Corner, and a lot of Lincoln Portrait. The brass and percussion are stellar, once again. Music performance will be a strong suit for these guys. I've been waiting for a corps to do Lincoln Portrait effectively, and while that orchestral work with speaker (listen to the James Earl Jones version if you can) is not everyone's cup of tea, the Cadets have done it incredible justice. Their percussion line seems ready for a run at Gold once again, and that BRASS!! WOW, best sound out of them this early.
Narration: I'm not a huge fan of narration, but this really works for me. Honestly, this type of show could not be done without it. The Cadets have crafted a wonderful script here, and I'm sure some tweaking will take place. BUT...for those not familiar with Lincoln Portrait, you need to go listen to a good orchestral recording. Again, any of those narrated by James Earl Jones are wonderful. Once you hear that you will clearly see how the Cadets have crafted, and updated, this script.
Stage: No doubt this was not being used a whole lot. Clearly they have plans for this, more than just a horn solo. I do like the drum majors conducting off to the side. I kind of wish the stage was behind, not in front.
Suggestion for the Cadets: Send one or two of your staff members down to Disney's Magic Kingdom to see the "Hall of Presidents" show. Maybe some have already seen it. There are similarities in what you are trying to do, and perhaps these may help you tweak this already very strong show.
Bravo for the early preview, and for what I think will be another top 3 show!
Finally, a decent comment. Thank you.

Another showing of the program tonight at 8 est @http://yea.org/2014-jtown2

Of course it would make sense without it. I mean, it's fine whatever they want to do, but to say that it wouldn't make sense without it does little credit to the music itself.
Let's see, a show about presidents but with no words or anything to explain...makes sense. Not...

I'm not sure about the accuracy of that but I'll take your word for it. It's much like Crown last year with Einstein on the Beach. The weird counting and seemingly random words in the opener were a part of the piece.
I encourage you to listen to A Lincoln Portrait. All of the narration except that at the very beginning is all in it (in the Lincoln section)

I believe the corps was very much moving and marching during that colorguard dance feature.
I'm sure Mr. Hopkins and Mr. Sacktig wouldn't block out the corps for no reason.
-
Well that's just like, your opinion, man.
And the narration (for the Lincoln section) is from the source music. It wouldn't make sense without it necessairly.

Maybe the drill folks are getting tired of climbing towers or to the top of press boxes. Sit under an umbrella and make your corrections.
I've had my time I get it ha

I watched the feed live and whenever there were people on that stage, it hindered my view of the corps. Not saying that I'm not going to see the show or hate on it because of it (I honestly care way less about visual design compared to musical arrangements), but it definitely isn't going to be my favorite show visually this year.
Again, fair enough, but the performers are being featured and the brass amd drums were just standing still...it could mean more ge for cadets though.

Except of course for the thousands of people that'll be sitting in the first few rows in many of the low level school stadiums across the country. If they buy a ticket there, and want to see the Cadets corps marchers performing in back of the ramps, well it might mean they'll be SOOL with those ramps in front of them. But who knows.. we'll learn soon enough.
Fair enough, but do keep in mind that it blocks as much as if it were just the pit as the performers are probably around that height and maybe even taller.
-
Does anyone else find these pointless? Corps have cleaned drill without them for years and by the looks of it, and set of those things like the Cavies have is an waste of one person's tour fees.

For whoever is complaining about not seeing the show because of the stage, keep in mind it's literally only 6 feet tall. It won't hinder the view that much if at all.
-
Music. JUST music! No stupid narration EVER!!
Is it still considered "stupid narration" if the source music has it in there (i.e. Cadets and "A Lincoln Portrait" this year)? I think then it's very acceptable because that piece is great.

Came across this camp video on YouTube today...thought I'd pass it along...
EDIT: This one too...love the music in this one!

OP,
Cadets played Swing Swing Swing as one of their encore tunes this year. It's arranged by Jay Bocook and they also played it in their '95(?) show. The piece is by John Williams from the movie "1941". Hope that helps!
EDIT: Added the Cadets playing it at YEAllentown!

The working title for the show sends shivers down my spine. And not in a good way.
How so?
