  1. Via Peggy White on the Alumni Picnic Potluck 7/2 :

Here's what we have so far: Meatballs, Teriyaki Chicken Wings, Ham & Potato Casserole, Chorizo, egg, potato dish, chicken salad, lasagna, chicken, coleslaw, potato salad, mandarin orange salad, spinach salad, pasta primavera, chocolate chip cookies, chips, homemade salsa and guacamole. Sodas will be provided...keep it coming, more food!!! Thanks to the people that have signed up so far!

lol Is this recruiting tactics, Dale?

Peggy forgot my chicken-something-whatever-I'm-going-to make dish. :satisfied:

Just an FYI ... VK is having a potluck picnic at the Walnut/MSAC show this Saturday. If you'd like to attend and need directions, message me and I'll send you the info.

  2. I'm an OTR truck driver. I can't even make the Thunderbird Alumni gigs in my hometown! Really missing it lately. Got my Kanstul Sop in the truck with me and break out a little "Elks Parade" every now and then!

We have a member (sop/screamer) that's also a truck driver too. With his schedule I'm amazed that he can fit us in whenever he can. Love that you're playing still.

Just heard a funny story from a VK alumni that once got pulled over fir DWD (driving while drumming), so be careful!

  3. You can do it. I fly in from Milwaukee. Next gig is at the Walnut show July 2. Alumni picnic that afternoon. We then play the opening ceremonies for the Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa on July 15. Practices are on Sundays, with some sectionals added in there too. We are set up to accommodate out of towners, with access to online music and links to purchase all your uniform parts.

This is going to be a blast!

Membership is inexpensive for the charter year, only $25.

  4. Anyone else notice that a 2 year old thread got resurrected????

And sorry Cherokee hasn't been on since 4/2009... wondered why this restarted so I looked...

My fault. I just happened to meet the founder of the CapitolAires on Monday after the DCI Preview movie. I poked around on the internet and found this great article and thought former corps and old DC dinosaurs like me might appreciate it.

  5. Per Academy's website

The Academy - Dobson High School - Mesa, AZ

Blue Devils - Mesa High School - Mesa, AZ

    Blue Knights - TBD

Cadets - Campo Verde High School - Gilbert, AZ

Phantom Regiment - Sunrise Mountain High School - Peoria, AZ

Revolution - Shadow Ridge High School - Surprise, AZ

Santa Clara Vanguard - Chaparral High School - Scottsdale, AZ

Thanks. There are three there that are fairly close to her.

  6. Can you please list where the corps will be staying or rehearsing for this Wednesday's show? The show is sold out and would love my 85 year old mom (a former corps mom), to at least see a couple of corps rehearsing.

She lives just a few miles from the show site, so anything in the general area would be great.

    Thank you so much,

    Nancy

  7. San Jose is the largest city in the entire SF Bay Area with close to 1M, and Santa Clara is just west of it. San Jose International would be 5-10 minutes away from the stadium. When you go from San Jose to San Francisco along the peninsula, prices for things go higher. San Francisco is undoubtedly one of the finest tourist destinations in all the world, but if you have everything there, you miss out on the rest of what the entire region has to offer. There is plenty of transit in the form of Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, Cal Train, & BART to take you to San Francisco (unless you really, really, want to experience driving in California traffic). By being in the South Bay, you can expect to be central, not only to San Francisco & Napa, but to Santa Cruz and Monterey as well.

    Not a hot destination but...

The housing should be more accommodating in Fresno and surrounding communities and the school's stadium seats over 40,000.

Although it is a three hour drive from the major airports (San Francisco and Sacramento).

  8. A most exceptional and extra velvety job well done brother Knight!

2010 will go down in our history book as one of the best, on the field, on the parade and in exhibition. "You Got A Friend in Me"

Thank YOU so much Dale for coming down and supporting the kids. The members really appreciated it.

  9. It might help if people voted early instead of waiting until the last minute and crashing the system. If there are 1000+ votes in the system before it crashes/locks up, they'll still be there after it restores.

    Garry in Vegas

That would have been nice. Lord knows I pushed the votes the whole time. I'm sure it was true for all others. It's kind of like tax season. A few file early, some wait a month or two but it's the last day rush that always makes the news.

Hopefully we'll remember the woes of yesterday next time voting takes place.

  10. Yea.

Maybe next time more people will notice and help the smaller corps.

Well I understand corps loyalty and all, but with the economy the way it is we need to be loyal to the "activity" in general and vote for all the corps. I used 18 out of my 20 for corps. Most of them were the smaller ones. The only reason why I didn't cast all 20 was that a couple of organizations started a heavy campaign for the us which I appreciated.

It's sad. Some corps that I voted for got less than 100 votes, others, well known corps, barely got over 100. What's up with that?!

Next time, please, let's :::ahem::: band together and support one another. Okay?

    Nancy

(Yes I voted for OC too)
