I am curious; with the change in touring by dropping the west coast, are Cadets able to fill shows to replace what has dropped, with eastern shows?  I know they are doing Boston's first show on July 1.  Have they been able to get into others. I have to believe with what has transpired and how they must be scrambling, that these kids will get rousing support wherever they perform.  And that means show sponsor support as well.  Is DCI helping out in anyway with that?

They actually have the same amount of shows as before with 31 total. They're really only losing 3 free days which is a bummer

This is a bummer, because that's a great stadium to watch drum corps in.  However, I won't miss the city itself.

This is also a curious decision, considering the fact the all the corps leadership that organized the plans is now GONE.  What is Penn afraid of at this point?  Or is there more to this decision than they are saying?

The article said they made this decision about a month ago so it must have been before all of the changes. A little premature I think.

I think drum corps is a pretty poor medium for conveying any message on a delicate or nuanced subject, or any message at all really, and that to try and do so would likely end up cringe-worthy at best.  If the Board of Directors feels it is important to have a PR firm manage its public communications on the subject (a decision with which I agree), then I don't think they will want to undermine that process by turning their show designers loose to send their own message.

I mean regardless of what they end up doing, the music will stay the same with the exception of Sound of Silence. They're not scrapping the whole show, just the title and the opening song. I'm just thinking of ways they could do just that

oh gosh no... musically the 2018 corps is extremely strong - the show they have prepped needs "adjusted"

and the corps is NOT in risk of "not making finals" - zero member defections that I'm aware of

they don't need to "learn a new show" and they have very strong arrangers in place

I think they should replace Sound of Silence with Praying by Kesha and make the show about finding your voice. This would allow them to retain elements of the show already in place and change the message from "nobody is listening" to making yourself heard

  5. Happy to announce that I'll be back with The Cadets this year once again as part of their media team! After only spending half of the season with them last year I'm excited to be with them for the whole summer this time around. Like last season, I'll try to keep up a Flickr gallery of show photos.

Actually, and this probably won’t win the day - but I’ll toss it out there:

YEA needs to pull The Cadets and Cadets2 from all competition for the 2018 season.

Why?  There will only be this distraction for this year.  Heck, parents may pull their kids out and leave them barely able to field a corps.  Take 2018 to revamp and restructure the organization.  Comeback after finals with everything in place to start the 2019 preparations even stronger.  Show everyone that hey, yes this happened.  But we’ve taken steps to make sure it won’t happen again.  You can’t run a tour and try and recover from this.

    Thoughts?

I think I can confidently say that the members would be furious if this were to happen. They seem very determined to move past this and field a great show this season

The more I hear about the 2018 Cadets, the more disgusted I become. Sounds like Hopkins is still ruining, I mean running the show at the Cadets. More tacky props, singing, and narration. Are you freaking kidding me? I need to pick another corps to support. It seems pretty clear that Hopkins is prepared to go down with the ship! What a sad situation. Shame on the Cadets board members for not stepping up to stop the bleeding at the Cadets. 34 years of following the Cadets quickly coming to an end!

    Bye!
