  1. This is funny, because over the last decade BD has helped revolutionize how drum corps are scored when it comes to visual design, and this is evident in their dominance since 2007. Yet in this instance, I feel like SCV is beating BD at their own game, and other corps are getting pretty darn close as well.

So to complain about SCV in regards to a perceived lack of visual demand is funny, because that absolutely acknowledges the fact that this entire “game” was created by BD.

For the record, I have ZERO issues with how BD and now SCV/other corps decide to utilize this visual concept.

I’m just a parent and fan...so I have no information. But I’m wondering how much can be done this late in the game. It seems to me possibly the only thing to be done is to work on the members “selling” the ending. Don’t believe there’s enough time for any kind of rewrite.

Either way, proud to have my kid out there whistling/tromboning/baritoning... life changing experience!

Every show at the end of the season has things that just didn’t work quite as well as originally thought. Don’t over analyze anything- just keep being proud of your son for having such an awesome experience this summer with a VERY entertaining show. One of my favorites this year! :-)

  3.  It’s that time of year again – the final week of the season. This time of the year every summer, I am always thinking about the age outs that are ending their time in DCI.  They have all contributed to the activity in many different ways.

In terms of age outs, there always seems to be a few drum majors aging out every year that have been a part of the activity for a while and have gained a fair amount of recognition within the circuit.

Who you think are the iconic drum majors for 2018? What about in all of DCI history?

For this year, Gabe Gallegos of the Troopers really comes to mind. I believe he has been the drum major at the Troopers for a number of years, and received the Jim Jones leadership award last year.

  4. Last night was a powerful and emotional run for the Cadets. Great job!

I do wonder if they will take a step back on Monday, score-wise. I will admit I didn’t expect them to break 90 this season. I wonder if the score last night was partly a result of the powerful audience reaction at the corps’ home show.

Just a thought. It was wonderful to see such a passionate show from the Cadets.

  5. “In trouble”...? In trouble for what? In trouble implies that they are at risk of falling out of finals or something. At the end of the season they will be a top 6 (at the worst) drum corps. In an extremely competitive year from top to bottom, there is a lot to be proud of in terms of the Cavaliers. They have an extremely entertaining show.

The Madison Scouts once again are the destination for every red blooded American Male who wants to march in drum corps without the silly prancing, ballet & body movement.

Yeah, this type of hyper-masculine mindset isn’t going to work in 2018 or beyond.
