The color is TERRIBLE in my theatre in Greeneville, SC. Completely washed out, very dim. Broadcast problem or just my theatre?
Also, white balance is waaaaay off.
-
What happened to that fight between the hunter and the whiptress? In ATL it was energetic and full of passion. Here it seemed like they weren't even trying to go through the motions. Ugh.
There's so much to love about the OC show, but that was a real let down at the end.

My favorite singing moment in drum corps since Crown 2014.

That's ok, broadcast director. It's only the biggest plot point of the show. Best to cut away literally seconds before it happens to a section where nothing is happening.
-
Wow. I saw Legends at CrownBEAT, and they were really rough. They've improved SO MUCH since then. Really enjoying their show.
-
I'd be shocked if Madison and Blue Knights swapped their narrations about next Thursday.
-
Hopkins was going down and talking to those guys and fiddling with things - I really don't get how he is involved in that. Seems like the music caption guys would be perfectly capable of designing the overall sound field and balance.. Especially when you have guys like GIno & Colin leading the darn ensemble rehearsal - they are pretty "solid" to say the least lol
I don't have an opinion on whether he should be that closely involved or not. I trust he's got an ear for this stuff. :)
BUT... I was sitting in the first few rows at Annapolis, and he was visibly frustrated at the levels during different parts of the show. I wouldn't have noticed the trumpet mic level was off, except he was shaking his head and walked over to the sound guy and I heard him say "trumpet mic is too Loeb. Turn it up."
I'm just wondering if that kind of frustration can influence scores, or highlight small issues that might have otherwise been overlooked.

I'm not sure I would describe Hymn of Axciom as a "reassuring, traditional hymn" like the USMC Drum and Bugle Corps does.
But I still love hearing it on the field.

So disappointing. The two biggest impact moments in the Scouts show ruined by goo. It's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too loud.

Once again, a super long intermission with thunder in the background. :(
I hope this isn't the second time in 4 days I don't get to see Crown.

People kept joking about bringing chik-fil-a in the facebook live warm up videos Crown does.
So tonight, I brought them a giant bag of chik-fil-a and delivered it to Roxy before the show. :)

Finally got to the stadium. Missed the first 2 1/2 corps due to parking issues.
Great to have a female announcer in the booth. First time I can remember being at a show where that's happened.
Troopers are up next!
-
Wow. By far, the absolute worst parking situation of any show I've ever been to.
Only parking is on residential streets, where parking is only allowed on one side of the streets. And hills everywhere. Terrible.

Did the Blue Knights marchers recover quickly?
Super fast. Didn't look like anyone was hurt badly.
-
And, Blue Knights saved the biggest tarp fail for the end. 6 or 7 people fell.
-
Man. So many gremlins in this stadium. The cavies Reagan/trump narration didn't work at all.
-
And the tarp fairy tales out another one. Tuba fall in the Crossmen show. Hopefully he/she is ok.
-
Also, the mandarins had no electronics tonight. The pit was completely inaudible at the top of the stadium, and there were some pretty big silences during the show.
-
Well, there's a first. Halfway through the mandarins show, during a particularly quiet part, a woman 4 rows from the top of the stadium stood up, turned around, and yelled at the judges "Y'all need to shut up. That's rude. That's not how we do it in the south."
The other fans cracked up, and esplaines judging to her.

These are some amazing photos DCI office might even want to buy! You have the gift of an eye. Thank you.
Thanks! I appreciate the compliment quite a lot! I still have a lot to learn, but I think I'm getting the hang of it. Good glass definitely helps.
I just uploaded the rest of the good stuff from last night to the Flickr album. Here are a couple of my favorites for people who don't want to click through to the Flickr album.

Well, I didn't get much I liked from ATL.
But I had no trouble getting the 70-200 lens into NightBEAT. Here are some of my shots from the first few corps. https://flickr.com/photos/35034346178@N01/sets/72157671859442625
More to come, but I'm off to watch Spirit's ensemble rehearsal.

Did anyone else hear that dude yell vanguard at a random time in their show?
That wasn't random. And there was more than 1 guy that yelled at the appropriate time.

Sounds is really terrific in Greeneville, SC. No feed problems and they've got it pumped up. But the picture remains really terrible. I think it's the projector, not the feed as even the corps title cards are all kinds of off color.
