I'm surprised no one has mentioned they are going to get 4th place yet.

Okay, I’ll fall on one of the first grenades of this incipient season.

Let’s at least wait until Crownies have had few weeks of second guessing, self flagellation, and mindless recriminations.

    After the show premiere…

Working my way down a backlog of official DCI audio that I never got a chance to listen to - 2019 Crown is probably the best music book of the entire year.  Funny enough, it's also probably one of the most "old school" in structure too.  That closer is amazing.

    Of course.

The detail of the pattern is movement😉

Mackey is hip and so is Crown. Look out because the hipster meter is about to TILT in Crown’s favor!

Bloo ‘14 set the standard for hip that season.

Cautiously optimistic for something equally epic from Crown ‘24👑👑👑

John Mackey is one of my favorite composers so I can't wait to see how that pans out. Color me *very* intrigued for how this summer goes. Mackey is very well known for odd time signatures and very chaotic pieces, very very friendly to low brass.

Me thinks we see some trombone and bass trombone from Crown this season once again.

Trombone feature in Relentless back in ‘16 was SLAMMIN.’

I could definitely get behind summin’ summin’ like that….

Word is they recruited well .. with Crown being a perc destination .. !!! Guard filled early too. I hear bigger props .. which is not a Crown tradition. Who knows but I’m excited to see what they bring out .. 👑

Not too early to plan the NB hookup.

    👑👑👑 Suite for sure.

    👑👑👑Suite for sure.

Well played, my friend. Well played…

I was in the first row on the 50 in Indy. I also saw them at the first show In Louisville that year.  I thought they would win after the first view. I hope those members know that despite not winning, they were a part of a truly special show and people are still talking about it now.

There’s a YT clip of the last +/- 2:00 of the show, and I’ve lost count of how many “music”—though not corps folks—I’ve shared that with, as an example of perhaps the most sublime B flat chord resolution ever produced on a football field.

Terri, for someone with such impeccable DCI credentials—to hold Crown ‘12 in such high regard—well, that’s pretty much the highest compliment anybody on these boards could make.

If I could go back in time and only see one live, it’d be a Sophie’s Choice between this and Star ‘91…

Go for the crown club seats instead.  They have a nice buffet included and there are lots of people to meet and mingle with.  After you dine and socialize, you can step out to your seats, which are all excellent!   If there's a rain delay, you can dart back into the club level to stay dry.   I go every year and it's awesome.

Well, because of my 1) antiquated phone and 2)challenged reading comprehension [primarily the latter], it looks like I have 2 x suite seats and 2 x my usual, Crown level spots.

Wig, if the usual suspects are looking to have another sit-down this year, then I’ll definitely make myself available during dining hours.

That’s not really bad. We paid almost twice that much for a lower tier bowl game last year and we were definitely not feted in a suite.  Almost makes me want to go.

Well, since the move in ‘15 to WS, I’ve always said—even as nice as Crown Club seating/accommodations are—I’d jump at the opportunity for a suite.

They called my bluff, so I’m all in…

All I can say is -- wholeheartedly agree.  Crown fans should book their hotel rooms for Indy.   Don't want to miss this one!

K, you’re sounding mighty bullish on CrownSTOCK for ‘24.

Better get on the phone with my broker ASAP.

To paraphrase Bud Fox, in 1987’s classic Wallstreet, “Blue Horse Shoe loves Carolina Crown.”

BD Honk here. Check this out..........

    2008 Phantom started out west.

    2011 Cadets started out west.

    2013 Crown started out west.

2016 Bluecoats did NOT start out west.

2018 SCV started out west. But they normally do anyways.

So four of the last five to beat BD started their tour in California. Coincidence??

Chief, former Coastie QM here. Your BD honkerdom precedes you..by nautical miles.

Thanks for taking time to respond🖖

  11. This is more than I usually contribute to “next year’s” thread this early in, but there was question I was itching to pose all during this recent season. Felt it wasn’t right then, but definitely legit for ‘24.

Putting aside the monetary component [just for the sake of initiating a discussion], what are CrownLAND’s thoughts on commencing the ‘24 tour on the west coast.

Moreover, is their any believe/opinion that strategy contributed to Crown’s success in ‘13?

  12. Well, wanted to get some skin in the game with the ‘24 thread.

SCV ‘89 (operatic/broadway) and ‘89 PR (Dvorak) are among my lifetime, DCI top ten. If Crown take’s a direction that embraces those elements, sign me up.

Agree wholeheartedly with K: music on the move just ain’t gettin’ the green shirt credit it deserves. As much as I, personally, appreciate that type of show, the activity simply no longer rewards that approach.

Crown. Opera House of DCI. K’s on to something there…

I think this has evolved into the best hornline of crowns since 2013.

My top four crown hornlines are now:

    2012, 2013, 2023, and 2018.

    No Rentless or Inferno?!

Actually, with those years stated, you make a good case👍

‘23s certainly now on my personal, CrownRUSHMORE.

    Now, who do I bump…

You're right. They are deserving of the silver, and so are Boston and Bluecoats.

I think DCI doing this medal crap was so stupid. Either you're 1st or your not. Now it puts so much weight on being in the top 3.

When I marched, I would have been elated being 4th, because it would likely mean we would have beaten Cavies, Regiment and Star. Nowadays people act like 4th is the worst thing in the world. It's not.

Ricky Bobby couldn’t have said it better himself.

    Bra-VO!!!!
